Beautiful villa in stunning area

We had a fabulous week at Villa Semele. The villa is beautiful, clean, spacious, well looked-after, well-equipped and we it was perfect for 5 of us. The information provided by the owner Ares was helpful. Loved the area, quiet, green, beach walking distance. Recommend highly!

Fantastic relaxing break

Had the most relaxing stay in this wonderful private villa. Highly recommend if you want peaceful surroundings and beautiful views. A car is essential if you want to visit tavernas in the surrounding area - but there is one in the local village which is about a 30 mins walk. If we had to comment on one small area for improvement it would be the seat pads and sun lounger cushions. We could only find 1 cushion for the lounger and the seat pads could do with updating as faded and a bit tatty but it's so very minor in the bigger scheme of things.

The most beautiful setting and jaw dropping views!

We had such a relaxing time at Villa Semele, so relaxing that we didn't stray too far from the villa for our entire stay. The views looked amazing online but really do take your breath away, and are a perfect back drop to the wonderful pool which was both large and deep enough to suit two older teens. The villa itself is simple but elegant and has everything you might need, all to a very high standard. It's an easy drive from the airport and although there are plenty of things to do (a car is a must) with only a week's stay we tended to stay poolside and then hit the beach late afternoon. The restaurant fare is quite simple but the village taverna in Nerotrivia was lovely and the staff attentive and friendly. We definitely plan to return and explore the region a little further, and would stay at the villa again in a heartbeat. Truly fabulous!

A delightful villa in an isolated and peaceful setting with magnificent views

Villa Semele could hardly be better. Its setting overlooking the Euboean Gulf to the mountains of Attica and Boeatia is a constant delight, especially as the sun sets behind Mt Helicon, where the Muses dance. Yet it is so easy to get to from Athens Airport by hired car. Within two hours one can be alone in the countryside. Yet everything one needs is nearby: in the village of Nerotrivia, just ten minutes away, is a bakery with delicious fresh-baked pies and a small shop with all basic necessities; and in Politica are bigger shops with fresh vegetables and fruit. The villa itself has been designed and constructed with considerable care and taste, all from natural materials, wood and stone. It has everything one might need, very thoughtfully arranged so it is easy to move in and be at home immediately. It is furnished very pleasingly, all well chosen wooden items, each with its own charm. The swimming pool is clean and well maintained. The beach, ten minutes walk away, was deserted when we were there, in pandemic October, and the water was warm and clear. We attempted to climb Mt Dirfys but the sun defeated us. Nonetheless there were wonderful views and cyclamen everywhere. Agali Gorge offers an excellent hike, often in the shade of the cliffs that close in the gorge. Both are 40 minutes away by car. Ares, our host, was very good to deal with. Quick to respond, helpful, and considerate. We really felt he genuinely wanted us to have a good visit. He was especially sensitive to the uncertainties of the pandemic. I am very grateful to him for making his very special house available so welcomingly. And Katerina, the housekeeper, who called round after a week to clean the place, keeps it in excellent condition and is herself a delight to meet. We had one of the most memorable holidays of our long lives, hardly moving beyond the villa in two weeks, so complete was our experience there. Very highly commended.

First class.

Everything about this rental was perfect from start to finish. Ares was very easy to deal with and booking was simple. The directions and accompanying details sent prior to the trip were very informative and concise. The house is beautiful and has a lovely ‘flow’,. We loved that we could access the terrace from every room. The design and furnishings are extremely comfortable with all amenities provided for a comfortable stay. The area was just what we wanted for a relaxing week, quiet and peaceful with a fabulous view. We loved it so much we barely left for the whole week! Thoroughly recommended.

Perfect holiday in a perfect house

First of all Ares is a great host who really took care of us. There is a manual that informed us about everything we hat to know about our arrival, shopping, sightseeing and of course about the house. We arrived late in the evening and were a bit afraid driving the narrow mountain roads in the dark. The house was worth it! You have a stunning view across the land, the sea and the mountains around Evia. We wanted to discover some places on the island but almost spent our time "at home", in this beautiful stone cottage with it's well equipped kitchen, huge terrace, wood furniture, cozy beds and open fireplace. The pool was cold but always very clean, the sight was overwhelming day by day, the walk to the sea was a good fitness challenge everyday and worth the sweat and when it's daytime the drive to the house is even half frightening. We'd love to come back, it was an absolute relaxing and beautiful stay! Thank you Ares!

Beautiful villa, gorgeous views

We had an amazing week at the beautiful Villa Semele. Ares has created a really beautiful retreat in a wonderful spot - we really didn't want to leave. The villa is in quite a remote spot, in lovely countryside, but it's only about an hour and a half from Athens, so it's not difficult to reach. There are friendly, inexpensive tavernas just a few minutes' drive away in Nerotrivia and Politika, and the pretty pebbly beach at Dafni is perfect. The water is clear and shallow, and on a weekday you'll probably have the place to yourself. Ares gave us a very warm welcome and was always easy to get in touch with. The villa is gorgeous and very well equipped. We usually like to do lots of exploring on holiday but we found we didn't want to leave the villa that much because it was so nice. Swimming in the pool while looking out at the countryside is just lovely, and the terraced area with its big table is perfect for enjoying being outside, with shade from the heat of the sun. Thank you Ares for a brilliant week. We are very sad to be back at work!

Total peace and quiet - with glorious views

There were two of us, so we had lots of space - the cottage can easily accommodate four people. We wanted peace and quiet, and we certainly got it. The cottage is quite isolated - there are a few houses dotted around, but one is hardly aware of them. It is surrounded by open country, with glorious views of the mountains and the sea, with the mainland beyond. The landscape is enchanting, constantly changing with the weather and time of day. Internally the layout of the house is very simple and practical. The stone construction gives it a very safe and solid feel, and we appreciated the attention to detail in the fittings and furnishings. The kitchen is very well equipped. The bedrooms and living room all open out onto the terrace, which therefore becomes the focal point (in summer - perhaps in winter the open fireplace would serve this purpose). The terrace in turn overlooks the pool, which we used all the time because it was so convenient, although the delightful little beach is only a short way away. There is a lovely beach taverna with excellent fresh fish about 15 minutes' drive away. The owner visited to make sure we were comfortable, and he could not have done more to ensure we had everything we needed. There is a village with some basic shops and a very good taverna a short drive away; a few minutes further there is a bigger village with several grocers and other shops and a choice of restaurants. A great plus is that, despite being so remote and on an island, it is easy to get to from Athens airport. A car is essential both to get there and to get around. However we also enjoyed some pleasant walks, and there are opportunities for really long walks for the more energetic. A few random tips: there is no cash machine or filling station in the village, so best to arrive prepared. I would certainly go back again to this truly delightful place, and very strongly recommend it.

Hidden paradise at Evia

It took three years to build this house. Each brick was cut and placed by one man. Result: a beautiful house in which each detail is perfect. After a few days you consider this house yours. And that is the perfect feeling to have when you enjoy your holidays. Swimming pool or sea you can choose! Long evenings on the terrace drinking wine or ouzo. Looking at the sea and the fisherman. So go there! We also will be back soon! Casper Schuuring, the Netherlands.

Sublime

One sole reason for disquietude accompanied my summer sojourn at Semele: that the idyllic charm and glorious sceneries of Euboea had spoilt me irrevocably, and that all else would henceforth pale by comparison with such untrammelled aesthetic splendour. Notwithstanding that the notion of an unspoilt paradise may have become a cliché, it has seldom been more justified. The cottage itself is both quaintly charming and possessed of all desirable comforts – including air-conditioning, without which my heat-addled mind would have been unable to appreciate all the surrounding beauties, and a natural swimming pool so inviting that we tested it within minutes of our 3 a.m. arrival – and is a testament to the owner's impeccable taste, dedication, care and perfectionism. Its carefully selected location affords absolutely breathtaking panoramic views of the sea, the adjacent valleys and the mountains beyond, as well as of stunning Mediterranean sunsets. In summer, the terrace becomes a focal point on which many evenings were spend drinking wine and watching the moon traverse and illuminate the bay below, under such a densely starlit sky that made me want to take up astronomy immediately. The cottage is also remarkably wind-resistant and the terrace thereby protected, as we found out on giving a very successful dinner party on the terrace during what might without excessive hyperbole be deemed a tornado. The location of the cottage is also ideally suited to exploring all the wonders that the island has to offer, from exquisite atmospheric tavernas and sea-food restaurants to beautiful virgin beaches. In fact, having spent the first few days driving to a different beach every day, we finally decided that the one 800m from the cottage exceeded them all – and swimming at dusk, watching the sun set and the moon then rise from the mirror-calm sea, remains for me one of those rare and enchanting moments that one always remembers for their utter perfection. I really cannot recommend Semele highly enough, and greatly look forward to visiting it again.

All time favourite

I had a perfect holiday at Villa Semele and could have wished for nothing more in aesthetics or comforts. Landscape views are breathtaking and the villa lives up to its surroundings in the charm of its exterior and interior. Inside the setup is pretty (lovely traditional wood furniture), very practical and will be particularly appreciated by cooking enthusiasts (spacious and well-equipped kitchen) - most of all I loved the outside dining space on the terrace with its exceptional views and great peace and privacy. Last but not least, full marks also on cleanliness. So all in all Villa Semele is a unique place and I would love to come back for more.

Semele, a proud mother of Greece...

Ares has created a real Greek paradise here. His dedication and hard work shine through in this stunning property. I have previously stayed at his other property Villa Arethousa which is close by and is equally excellent. The cottage has a certain romantic charm however which I found inescapable. Everything is well considered and a great deal of thought, love and care has been put into building this traditional cottage. The swimming pool (with a soon to be completed natural filter system) is a highlight with stunning views of the mountains, sea and surrounding countryside. The local area is stunning with a very good local Taverna two miles away where nothing is too much trouble and guests are well looked after by the family who runs it. One can get a real sense of community and visitors are always made to feel welcome. The property was well presented and very clean when we arrived and there are plenty of maps, guidebooks and general information to help guests settle in. I can not recommend this property highly enough and will certainly go back next year. I strongly recommend hiring a car so you can properly explore the local area

An amazing location

Villa Semele is located on a majestic hill side of Nerotrivia, Evia offering a 270 degree view to near by mountain tops and the Evoikos gulf. We stayed there for 2 weekends during the winter season and were ever so sad to leave. The house is beautifully arranged with great attention to detail and natural materials all around. Athens airport is only about 1,5 hours away which is unbelievable! Strongly recommended for lovers of nature, careful aesthetics, candle-lit evenings, comfort and total privacy. There is no doubt we shall be re-visiting soon.

A small slice of heaven

I have just returned from spending a week in this beautiful cottage, and it is difficult to decide where to start. The cottage is set in striking surroundings, and boasts stunning views of the surrounding valleys, the sea, and the mountains beyond. It is the perfect base to explore everything that the island has to offer. The beach is a short walk away, and although it was too cold to swim when we went, we enjoyed long walks in the surrounding countryside. The village nearby provided everything we needed for our stay, not least internet access, and the larger town of Halkida was only a short drive away. The cottage is well located, and finding our way around the island was not difficult. Maps and guides were provided. The cottage itself has been built using traditional methods, to a very high standard. Everything has been very thoughtfully chosen, from the fittings and furnishings, to the prints on the walls and the books on the shelves. The kitchen was very well equipped, and a pleasure to use. Both rooms were very comfortably furnished. Everything was immaculately clean when we arrived. The cottage has a beautiful swimming pool and terrace, which looked ideal for barbecues, dining al fresco, and spending long summer days. We went in the winter, but this was hardly a disadvantage, as we were able to enjoy long evenings around the magnificent fireplace, for which everything we needed was provided. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. I can't wait to see it in the summer!
