Stunning Barn Conversion With Lovely views of Traditional Village Green
The barn is located in Nun Monkton a traditional village in beautiful Yorkshire Countryside, just ten minutes from the York Park and Ride, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds, sampling village life and everything that York has to offer too. Cottages are dotted round a maypole and duck ponds, and footpaths give you direct access over the meadows to the rivers for long riverside walks. Round your walk off with a drink or meal at the village pub, The Alice Hawthorn. York, Harrogate, The Yorkshire Moors and The Dales are all short drives away. There is an excellent farm shop at Pool Bridge Farm near the bridge which specialises in local meat. There is a well stocked small Asda supermarket at the filling station on the A59 at the top of Pool Lane. If you regularly shop on the internet, both Sainsburys, Morrisons and Tesco deliver to the village. Small well behaved dogs are welcome.

We had 3 nights in this lovely barn conversation in Nun Moncton. The accommodation is excellent and very well placed for visiting York, Harrogate and many other places in North Yorkshire. The owner was very friendly and welcoming . It’s well worth a visit !
Really nice barn in a lovely quiet village. York and Harrogate are only 30 minutes away. The vinyard in walking distance is worth a visit.
Overall a very pleasant stay, we’ll be going back there again.
Another relaxing stay in Nun Monkton. Another lovely meal at the Alice Hawthorne Inn. A comfortable property and great place for our family to meet up from Lancashire and Hampshire.
Many thanks, hope to visit again next year.

The barn was outstanding a true luxury for three days in a chocolate box village scenario.Outstanding eatery in the village. Our host was exemplary was there to greet us then on-site if needed and ended with a cheery goodbye.
Brilliant little property that was perfect for a few days relaxing away from it all. The open plan kitchen/living area on the first floor has a lovely view out over the village green and we were treated to an assortment of wildlife including the village cows grazing. Downstairs the bedrooms were extremely comfortable. Being just 10 min drive from one of York's park and ride is very convenient. Overall we had a wonderful time and Boo made us feel very welcome.
The property has been converted to a very high standard. Everything was of good quality and very comfortable. The owner is a lovely lady and very helpful.
We enjoyed our stay at Lane End Barn very much. The property was well equipped and spotlessly clean on arrival. Nun Monkton and the surrounding area are beautiful, and it was easy to visit York and Harrogate. Would return in a heartbeat and thoroughly recommend this property.
We really enjoyed our stay at Land End Barn. It has been converted to a high standard. It is well kitted out providing all that is needed for a comfortable stay. Well situated for visiting York, Harrogate and Knaseborough. Would highly recommend this accommodation.
quality accommodation with the owner in the cottage opposite. Our stay was only 3 nights but felt very much at home. Comfortable beds and good quality fittings and furniture. good base to explore the village and surrounding area
We loved staying at this beautifully converted building in the lovely village of Nun Monkton.
A property with a unique character and in a nice and quiet village that feels like it’s in the deep countryside yet it’s amazingly easy and short drive to visit nearby York and Harrogate. The RHS Garden Harlow Carr at Harrogate we’re stunning and they even have a Betty’s Tea room at the gardens which does a splendid afternoon tea.
The Barn. This was a special place to stay and nicely decorated character property. Would highly recommend staying here. Our host was superb and very helpful and kind.
Nun Monkton has a unique charm and the highest Maypole in England ! The local village pub serves excellent food (though you do have to book ahead as it’s very popular) we also rented a self drive boat from the village to the day which was a lovely experience.
Revisiting for a relaxing stay, ideal for two couples
The location is peaceful. The village is beautiful with a good pub. The barn is good for two couples with two bedrooms and bathrooms. The open plan living kitchen area works well.
We returned to stay again for half-term one year on and are so glad we did.
Holiday properties usually come with some kind of compromise to living at home but Lane End Barn really is home-from-home for us. The beds and sofas are comfy, the showers plentiful and as hot as you like. Everything works perfectly, the kitchen is well equipped and the barn is both beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. Plentiful soap, toilet rolls and fluffy towels also meant we had little call to go shopping other than for pleasure.
Nun Monkton is a hidden gem of a village too. Watching the cattle graze on one of our last working village greens each day is a pleasure. Then there's the stunning Alice Hawthorne pub and the walks from your doorstep around the green or along the Ouse. The village is peaceful, relatively car-free thanks to the road being a dead-end and parking not being allowed on the green, but friendly when you meet people out and about or in the pub. We felt honoured to be asked to stay and watch the Jubilee beacon be lit after our meal at the Alice Hawthorne.
Other super places aren't far away either. Hammerton station is just 5 minutes drive with a free car park, so we were able to easily venture into York and back without the stress of driving in. Harlow Carr (RHS Garden and Betty's Cafe) is no more than half an hour. Beningborough Hall is stunning - and walkable if the ferry is running. 45 minutes up the A1 sees you at Leyburn and on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.
The Ainsty Farm Shop, Sweet Basil Chinese/Thai and the Co-Op just by where the village road joins the A59 are also great for supplies and delicious food.
The owner is also friendly and helpful if you need anything. Thank you Boo, we hope to be back next year!
Ideal base for North Yorkshire. Harrogate lovely. York lovely. Fountains Abbey a good morning out. I would certainly come back here when visiting North Yorkshire again. Clean, tidy. Everything that you need including washing facilities. Boo is a lovely host also.
Delightful, lovely, clean...everything that one could need for a relaxing "away from it all" few days. Highly recommend. Information pack was up to date and useful.
The 'host' was very approachable and made us feel very welcome, and the lovely vases of garden flowers were a beautiful touch. All the appliances were easy to use and a utility room housed freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer should you need them. Just be aware that there are no shops for essentials in the village, you need a car to get to the nearest one about 3-4 mile away.
This is a most beautiful, comfortable , bright and fresh property. Lovely area, so very quiet in such a beautiful picturesque village. Very clean and short of nothing for a perfect stay. Would love to return. So easy for Park and Ride into York centre and many other north Yorkshire popular places.
I have lived in Nun Monkton for over 40 years and had a Good Food Guide recommended restaurant in York . When I retired from the demands of restaurant life, I become involved in the wine trade and was a tutor for the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. My travels have taken me all over the world and there is still a lot more to see. I am a keen gardener; play golf and love walking in the North Yorkshire Moors, Wolds and Dales with friends.
Why they chose this property
Reasons for buying property in this location I arrived in Yorkshire 40 years ago by accident having sold a restaurant in Essex. I was staying with friends who suggested I looked at a cottage in Nun Monkton which was for sale. I fell in love with the place, bought it, opened and restaurant in York and kept a horse in the barn. When the restaurant was sold it was clear something drastic had to be done to stop the barn falling down. I took a gamble and embarked on a full scale conversion. The horse had to go, but I have had a lot of happy guests in his place since.
What makes this property unique
Nun Monkton is the most glorious village and I count myself very lucky to live here. Apart from the charm of the place, with its maypole, duck ponds, a church boasting pre Raphaelite stained glass windows and a pub with fabulous food, we are just ten minutes from a York Park and Ride and have easy access to the North York’s Moors and The Dales. The grade 2 listed barn is carefully converted, warm and cosy with a log burning stove and great views over the village green and open country. I am on hand in case of emergencies but know too that privacy is important. Friends and family often stay in the barn and they are my fiercest critics. If it's good enough for my 90 year old mother ......
