Delightful Barn Conversion in village beneath the beautiful Quantock Hills AONB
This recently converted red sandstone barn on the southern slopes of the Quantock Hills offers comfortable self catering accommodation for two. It is beautifully furnished with antiques and original art. It is an ideal base for exploring this beautiful AONB area with its herds of red deer and Quantock ponies. It consists of a private entrance from an attractive small garden where you can sit and enjoy the sun, into a comfortable open plan, attractively furnished and decorated sitting room with flat-screen Freeview TV, and a Bose CD and radio. The dining area and kitchenette are comprehensibly equipped. There is a modern electric hob, microwave, toaster and electric kettle. Stairs lead up to the pretty twin/double bedroom with en-suite shower, basin & WC. Double French style windows overlook the garden. Fully centrally heated in the winter and with east and south facing windows for morning and afternoon sun, the Barn is as welcoming in winter as in summer.

Just a great place in a lovely village, handy for everything in the quantock area, but not far from the big Taunton and lots of other lovely places and seaside. Everyone in the village were friendly and welcoming as was our host who was just the nicest lady.

Perfect, relaxing weekend break!
This was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend break, which was exactly what my boyfriend and I wanted after a few busy weeks at work.
The barn was well equipt, although it didn't have a proper oven as listed, but that did mean we got to check out the Chinese that was located in the village!
It was so peaceful and spotlessly clean and we would definitely recommend this to those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle.
The village was quaint and a great place to explore and it was a real treat to hear the sounds of the steam train through the open windows.
We hope to return in the autumn.
This is a jewel of a property tucked behind the main street of a very pretty village so close to the Quantocks and Exmoor, yet is quiet and secluded. The garden is a joy - with table and chairs to sit out in good weather. The bed is huge and very comfortable, kitchen well equipped, and the hostess is next door and very friendly and helpful. Close to a 7 day a week late opening shop too!
Excellent cosy and comfortable very peaceful and relaxing food

A peaceful sanctuary
A delightful and peaceful place to stay. We were so grateful to be able to bring our dog and to have use of the garden. The barn is well equipped and the owners are very welcoming. It is also ideally situated in the village which has everything you need. An easy drive from the village to lots of places of interest and great walks. A perfect get-away place where you can switch off and enjoy. We had lovely weather and were able to sit in the garden for supper and a cosy evening in enjoying the barn and its peaceful atmosphere. We would definitely recommend this place to others. Thank you very much to Caroline Smeaton for her warm welcome and thoughtfulness.

Perfect for a short stay. Clean and welcoming.
Lovely cosy cottage. Being able to take our dog and use the garden was a bonus. Spotlessly clean and did not smell of other dogs which so often is the case. Thank you

Very Nice Place - Very Nice owners
The property was clean and comfortable and very well-situated for Somerset Archives and the Quantock Brewery. It would be a good base for walking in the Quantocks as well.

Very relaxing stay
We've had a great time at the barn. Caroline and John were very friendly and welcoming, but left us all the freedom we needed. The house is very clean and all the necessary appliances were there.
We would go there again.

Somerset in the heat
We took the dogs on the hottest week for years to a delightful place near Taunton. The beaches are 20/30 minutes away and the village of Bishops Lydeard has good amenities including the Bird In Hand Pub with a large beer garden and welcomes dogs. Mr & Mrs Smeaton couldn't have been more welcoming along with Alfie the poodle and we would recommend the accommodation as ideal for a couple with pets. Shame that Owners Direct bombard you with confusing invoices(() demanding payment even after it's been made. Then loads of emails with offers when you haven't even gone on the first holiday with them.

Clean, cosy and well equipped
Accurate listing, would recommend the Barn, owners quickly rectified the one small problem we had. Liked the Bird in the Hand for drink and food but the other pub was under new management and not really ready for customers.

About the host
Hosted by Caroline Smeaton
I live in Bishops Lydeard with my husband. Our two children graduated from university recently and are now forging their own careers away from home, one in Dubai and one in London. We enjoy gardening and walking our pet poodle on the nearby Quantock Hills.
Why they chose this property
Bishops Lydeard is a delightful, unspoilt Somerset village with stunning scenery and all the necessary facilities on the doorstep to make life comfortable and easily managed. The Quantock Hills behind the village, teem with wildlife and support herds of deer and Exmoor ponies. The walks are delightful. The peace and quiet of the countryside makes it hard to believe we are only 20 minutes from the town of Taunton, with its mainline railway station and motorway junction. A perfect place to live or to visit.
What makes this property unique
For those who enjoy an active holiday, there are good golf courses within easy reach. The coast and beaches are within a 20 minute drive and the open vistas of Exmoor and the Quantock and Brendon hills are all around us with miles of open moorland to explore on foot. There is pony trekking available nearby. It is a haven for naturalists and bird watchers, lepidopterists and photographers.
