About this property

Cornish Cottage. Set In 7 Acres With Trout Fishing, Boscastle, North Cornwall.

Anderton Mill is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sleeping four in two bedrooms, it provides superb family accommodation, but is also ideal for couples wishing to get away from it all. Renovated by the owners over a period of twenty years, it is very much a home, rather than simply a holiday cottage. This ancient watermill has been converted with flair and finesse and includes slate floors, a log burner, deep oak window seats and contemporary furnishings. The three patios are real sun traps; 'the riverside terrace', is complete with sun loungers, whilst the upper patio has a built-in barbecue and teak furniture. There is plenty to do within the 7 acre grounds, including trout fishing, pond dipping and scaling the tree house, as well as excellent local walks in the valley. The house is only a short drive (or indeed a walk for the fit!) to the North Cornish coast and its varied beaches. Space, peace and tranquility are the hallmarks of this unique rural retreat.
Due to popular demand, we only accept bookings from Saturday to Saturday.

Wonderful stay

We had a great stay, Pete and Kay were very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The cottage was quaint, comfortable and set within an idilic garden with a river running through. Great location for exploring along the north coast. We couldn’t have asked for more! Thanks, we hope to stay again one day :)

Truly magical

When you pull up to the property, you are literally blown away as it is the sweetest cottage set in a magical, fairytale like woodland in a wild but beautifully maintained garden with your own stream, which we could not get our dogs out of! There are different little areas like a terrace (perfect for breakfast) and a BBQ area tucked away in the ferns with ample seating, allowing you to make the most of your environment. The cottage itself is so pretty and quaint and had literally everything you could need. The welcome note, fresh flowers, scones, clotted cream, jam and strawberries were a lovely touch and made us feel very welcome. The bed was lovely and comfortable and waking up to the sound of the babbling stream was wonderful. Kay and Peter, the owners, were located across the stream and invited us up to theirs for drinks one sunny evening and they are the most charming couple you could ever hope to meet, so much so that we have offered them a house swap with our property in the Cotswolds should they themselves ever want a break away - although I don't know why they ever would as they live in a truly wonderful part of the world. Many thanks for everything as myself, my partner and our pups had the best time ever :) xx

Absolutely Idyllic

My husband and I booked this beautiful cottage for a week of peace and quiet and that was exactly what we got. The property is straight off a chocolate box, absolutely stunning and also immaculate. The pictures don’t do it justice. The gardens, the stream and surrounding countryside are beautiful. We received a welcome pack and note from the owners which was a lovely surprise and much appreciated after a long trip down. The location whilst slightly remote is never more than an hour (ish) to travel somewhere. We visited a lot of places in Cornwall in the space of a week and the journey to and from the cottage was never an issue. The lack of wi-fi could be an inconvenience if you can’t live without your phone, but the peace quiet and natural beauty of the cottage and the surrounding areas more than make up for that. It has been a joy to have stayed here.

Lovely getaway cottage.

We had a lovely stay at the cottage which was nicely secluded and quiet. The cottage was very sweet and well equipped. Some areas could have done with updating which would have made it 5*. The grounds were nice but some inaccessible like the treehouse and higher fields. Possibly some little signs would have helped too. The owners were lovely and went out of their way to check in and make sure all was well. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday ☺

Great hideaway,author's take note

Gem of a hideaway, just you the birds, and the babling valency river,no road noise, just peace and quiet, rarely see passing tractor, sit out front on the patio furniture or relax around the back on the terrace, plus loungers on a lower patio area. No access to the internet and phone services not too good there, but we did not miss any of these ,it was quite a relief not too have them working. Nice weather was had and not far from Boscastle/Tintagel or Bude. Will return next year

An absolutely beautiful cottage in a fantastic location. For anyone looking for a quiet relaxing holiday, look no further. This cottage is delightful and a perfect place for anyone looking to chill but also a great base for anyone looking to tour the north Cornish coast. Can't wait to return.

Unique, tranquil and idyllic

We were lucky enough to spend the first proper week of full sunshine in months at this incredible property. All of us, adults, kids (nine and 11) and dog enjoyed cooling off in the beautiful stream that runs through the grounds. It’s a great base to explore much of North Cornwall and beyond, but sometimes it’s great not to leave Anderton Mill at all, it’s just so peaceful and there is a sun trap around every corner. The owners, Pete and Kaye, were incredibly helpful and we could only not take them up on their offer to come over for a birthday drink for my wife (they are building a house up the road) because I was ‘pinged’ in the very last hours of a holiday and needed to self isolate. A great holiday in an unforgettable location.

Idyllic retreat

Just come back from a week at Anderton Mill. The cottage had been lovingly restored by Peter and Kaye and is home from home. Idyllic location with only the sound of birds and the river flowing. Ideal location for trips to the North Cornish coast. Daymer beach, Trebarwith Strand, Boscastle, Padstow to name but a few within easy reach and worth a visit. Peter and Kaye made us very welcome with a bottle of bubbly for my birthday and cream teas! Highly recommend this beautiful cottage and it’s extensive grounds, perfect for our four legged friend and a relaxing retreat for us!

Breathtakingly beautiful, everything you need with peace and tranquility.

A simply stunning, well maintained and homely cottage with beautiful gardens. The perfect place to 'get away from it all' and relax with the peaceful sound of the water running through the river in the gardens. A tree house, actually built into a tree provided so much fun for the kids aswell as many places to explore and play hide and seek! Kay and Pete called before our first day and gave very clear instructions on how to find and access the mill. We also chatted about places to go, eat and things to do with the kids. We were welcomed on the first day with fresh flowers, fresh milk and a cream tea with plenty of scones and the cottage was beautifully furnished and very clean. Everything we needed was there and the 'red folder' was very useful too. We did so much; crabbing in Padstow, climbing at Tintagel, Boscastle Farm Shop, Port Isaac, Daymer Bay, Callestick ice cream Farm, beautiful beach at Perranporth and by far the favourite - Trebarwith Strand! We went there 3 times including a very windy day just to watch the waves! A particular favourite of our dog's too! We will definitely return returning to Anderton Mill, thank you so much to Kay and Pete for a wonderful holiday.

Beautiful house and gardens. Really cosy and comfortable. The setting was stunning and well located.

We had a great week at the mill. It’s perfect for exploring the local area or just relaxing in the beautiful gardens. The boys loved the treehouse and the nearby water. There is no WiFi but we found that a blessing rather than a hindrance and even our fourteen year old agreed! Perfect for getting away from it all.

Relaxing break in superb surroundings

Property is excellent; it is well maintained, clean and has excellent facilities. We arrived during a cold spell and were greeted with a wonderful cream tea and heat from the multi-fuel stove. Pete and Kay are always adding new things and this year we came across an extra patio! The location is brilliant for a beach or walking holiday and the nearby Boscastle Farm Shop is great for a range of local produce and cup of tea.

A week's stay in April at Anderton Mill

Superb location, quiet and tranquil surroundings, a great escape from the hustle and bustle. Pete and Kay laid on a lovely cream tea reception which was most welcome. This was our 7th visit (maybe 8th); we keep coming back for more.

September stay

We first stayed at this cottage in 2014 and had a lovely time. We stayed at other places over the years but decided this was one of the best. The owners are very helpful and get back to you very promptly. The cottage was just as we remembered and it feels more like a home than a holiday cottage. Our 4 year old daughter loved the huge garden and the tree house. There is lots to do in the area. We would recommend this cottage to everyone and no doubt we will booking another stay in the future. 5 stars.

Hideaway

We have stayed at Anderson a few times before. Really, selfishly we want to keep this place a secret so we can enjoy when we want! It is in such a beautiful position that you cannot fail to relax. It is a struggle to tear yourselves away but the area and coast are so dramatic you have to force yourself out! Don't go if you want constant wifi access or a big TV but most of us are attracted to it exactly for that reason. Homely and well equipped with a brilliant riverside garden terrace.

We are married with 2 grown up children and are both retired teachers. Although we love travelling, Cornwall always draws us back!

Why they chose this property

We stumbled across Anderton Mill by chance when walking in the area. At the time it was a complete ruin but we fell in love with its stunning position in the Valency Valley. We spent the next 15 years lovingly restoring it, as time and money allowed. It is now a very special home. We were delighted to receive Rural Property of the Year Award for 2011. Although we visit often, we have been letting Anderton Mill for almost 20 years, with many of our guests returning year after year - the record being 16 years in succession!
North Cornwall remains one of the least spoilt areas of Great Britain and the Vallency Valley is a very special place. We have spent many happy times here with our family and friends.

What makes this property unique

We always enjoy the peace and tranquility of the cottage; the abundance of wildlife and the variety offered by the seasons. Sitting outside on a warm evening is a real joy, listening to the river and gazing at stars we don't see in the city.
This place is unique - something that our guests often comment on.
