La Ultima Casa is situated high in the mountains at the end of a winding road. This beautiful 'cabaña' has been renovated to preserve the original 300 year old 'pasiego' style whilst providing high quality, eco-friendly living facilities. In the remote, unspoilt hills of Cantabria with magnificent, panoramic views, the house overlooks the village of Liérganes with the sea in the distance. It has it's own mountain spring water and solar panel. Sleeps up to 12 people with four bedrooms, one en suite, for eight people, two reception rooms each with a double bed settee. The main reception room has a large wood burning stove for cosy evenings. The kitchen and dining room are spacious and well supplied with a very large dining table for social meals. There is a main bathroom and a downstairs toilet as well as an en suite shower room. Full gas central heating. The garden includes a large graveled area and our own surrounding fields. There are games for children and adults: indoor board games and puzzles.
Lots of wonderful walks from the house - up to the ridge for views of Santander and the Picos mountains or down the hill to the babbling streams. At the bottom of the hill is the River Miera where there are pools for swimming. Bird watching is a treat from the house with high flying vultures and eagles to tiny ground birds. There is plenty of opportunity for star gazing during the night with no artificial light to distract.
You will need a good car or ideally a 4x4 and to be a confident driver as the house is located up a 5km mountain road that becomes an unsurfaced and uneven track for the last 1km. The first 4km of road has recently been resurfaced by the local council.
We have had a few visitors who have caused damage, nuisance and lack of respect for the countryside. So we now will not accept bookings from groups of young people for parties.
Lierganes: A beautiful medieval spa town. Lierganes is rich in history with it's traditional stone architecture, the legend of Hombre Pez, Balneario spa treatments, the River Miera, the paps of Lierganes and plenty of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.
Beaches: Large, small, urban, rural, quietly enclosed bays or large stretches open to the Cantabrian Sea; all of them have fine golden sand, crystal clear water and often surfing conditions.
