About this property

Heron’s Nest, with a lovely private garden and use of The Ndoro Pool.

A fabulous cottage, lovingly designed, to created a 'home from home feeling'. A private, south facing garden with stunning views, The woodlands and fields hold an abundance of wildlife and birdlife all of which can be viewed from the property.. Heron's Nest is situated down a quiet lane, 3 miles from the famous town of Royal Wootton Bassett. There are plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy.
Please be advised changeover days are Mondays and Fridays.

THE NDORO POOL
Swimming in the Ndoro Pool, is the most beautiful, memorable experience.
The pool has no heating or chemicals, therefore completely natural. Plants, dragonflies, newts, water mussels are some of the wildlife that live happily in the ecosystem.
Working with nature and maintaining the biodiversity of the pool is absolutely essential. Although rare, this can mean pool closure, we don't know when it will happen, or indeed, how long it will take to restore the 'natural normal balance'. We trust you understand.

The perfect Getaway

We had a great long weekend at Heron’s Nest. Hilary welcomed us upon arrival and showed us around. The property is lovely, very clean and well maintained. It is in a quiet, rural location, but still only a few minutes drive from all the amenities in Royal Woodson Basset. It is perfect for walks and exploring Wiltshire and Somerset. I would definitely recommend.

Lovely spot for a weekend in the countryside

Myself, my wife and our 2 dogs stayed at Heron's Nest over the Easter bank holiday weekend. We were looking for somewhere we could have a relaxed long weekend of picturesque dog walks and not much else - which is exactly what we got. Heron's Nest is in a great location; a quiet spot with the rural countryside on your doorstep, but close enough to pretty market towns like Chippenham, Malmesbury, Tetbury, etc. The property itself has everything you need for a weekend/week away from home, so you can pack light. There is even a natural/wild swimming pool to awaken the senses .... even on a warm early April afternoon the water was freezing but invigorating! The communication from Hilary leading up to our stay was great and she was very welcoming and friendly on our arrival. The fridge was stocked with a bottle of wine and apple juice, which was a nice touch. All in all, Heron's Nest ticked all the boxes for what we wanted and we're planning to book again for future.

Making Memories

Hillary was absolutely amazing at accommodating our ever changing situation. The cottage was truly stunning with the garden and views adding to us making memories. The Lodge was perfect in every sense, beautifully decorated and equipped for our every need. Peaceful and tranquil does not do it justice. We will be back to escape and unwind. Thank you again for supporting us through everything.

Lovely property in a lovely location

Lovely, well equipped property in a lovely quiet rural location. Pretty enclosed garden perfect for our dog Missy and us to enjoy. Surrounded by fields with horses, we also saw several deer, a fox and pheasants as well as lots of birds in the garden. Good location to visit nearby beauty spots. Hillary & Nick we’re very friendly and helpful hosts - but not intrusive. We had a lovely week and the weather was very kind (added bonus!). Thank you Hillary! 😊

what a fabulous find

This lovely little home was our home for 3 days.. what a beautiful home It is too. You will not be disappointed. With its own little garden which is a bonus and also a sun trap it is the right place to unwind and relax. Waking up to 4 deer in the field outside won me over from day 1. The owners are close on hand should you need anything and are very welcoming. Highly recommended.. Toy won't be dissapointed if you stay here..

A relaxing getaway

Just returned from a fabulous mid-week break at Herons Nest, celebrating our Silver Wedding Anniversary and on arrival we were greeted with a bottle of bubbly and a lovely card from Hillary to help us celebrate the occasion. The cottage was everything we needed and more. A great base for exploring the Wiltshire downs and Cotswolds. Hillary was an amazing host and very knowledgeable about the area, letting us know the best places to eat and visit. We would highly recommend Herons Nest as a place to stay.

Relaxing weekend break

A peaceful and tranquil setting with a welcoming host. Bit of a shame you can't walk from the door to anywhere, but lovely to explore surrounding area for walks with our dog. Cottage was cosy and we loved the breakfast bar views. A few modernising touches would make the place perfect like comfortable garden furniture, a bigger bed and better shower. However this didn't spoil our stay, we really enjoyed ourselves. Would recommend the Langley Tap pub not far away & Avebury for a lovely visit.

Lovely, relaxing break

Had a great 4 nights at Heron's Nest. The cottage is beautifully furnished with a very well equipped kitchen. Beautiful countryside location with pheasant and deer in the surrounding fields . South facing garden is lovely for barbequing in the evening or just sitting and enjoying the sunshine. We visited Bath, Cirencester, Chedworth Roman Villa , Silbury Hill and Avebury. Ed was a great host, welcoming us to the property and then sorting out our initial lack of wifi within 10 minutes. It was our 25th wedding anniversary on the day we arrived and Hilary had left a vase of red roses, a card and a chilled bottle of prosecco for us to celebrate, which was a lovely touch. Thank you Hilary. We would definitely stay at Heron's Nest again if we return to the area in the future.

About the host

Hosted by Hillary Walter

Host profile image
We are a family of 5 who have have recently renovated and extended our home and cottage. We love being outside and enjoy gardening. We have a small holding consisting of a variety of chickens, pigs, sheep and two ponies!!

I enjoy making jams, chutneys, cakes etc. Nick (my husband) has just bought a Smoker for fish and meat and has been experimenting with that!

Understandably, our friends call us Tom and Barbara!!

Why they chose this property

We bought Burrington because of its location. We are situated down a very quiet lane surrounded by fields with a view of Tockenham wood, which has Tockenham Lake within it. You could hardly believe we're only 2 miles from Royal Wootton Bassett and therefore have easy access to the M4 - which makes Heron's Nest an easy to get to retreat!!

What makes this property unique

There are plenty of wonderful things to experience whilst staying at Heron's Nest. Most notably the Natural Swimming Pool! A fabulous experience which people come back for!
There are wonderful walks in and around us. Plenty of fabulous and interesting towns and cities to visit, Bath, Oxford, Marlborough, Bristol, Castle Combe and the Cotswolds are all within an hours drive

The property itself is well equipped - I have tried to create a home from home kitchen. The sitting room has all the normal appliances one would expect plus a variety of games.
