About this property

Pretty gite in peaceful hamlet, by La Chartre-sur-le-Loir, Vallée du Loir

La Petite Grange is set in its own grounds in a small peaceful hamlet. It has been lovingly renovated to a high standard and provides a comfortable and relaxing environment to enjoy the surrounding countryside and an ideal base from where you can explore all the attractions the region has to offer.

La Petite Grange is located in-between Le Mans and Tours and a few minutes away from the lovely villages of Lhomme - the capital of Jasnieres, the local white wine, and La Chartre-sur-le-Loir - famous for its connections to the 24 hour Le Mans race and it's brocantes.

The pretty cottage has a relaxing patio area overlooking the enclosed garden and field and valley behind. It's the ideal area in which to unwind during the warm weather whilst enjoying a barbecue and a glass of the local wine.

Inside, La Petite Grange is cosy and welcoming, you'll feel right at home the instant you walk through the door.

The kitchen has all that you need for your visit, whether you wish to cook up a gastronomic meal or just warm-up a pizza!

The living/dining room is very comfortable with a sofa and two armchairs in front of the woodburner (logs supplied). The TV has french channels but also a DVD player with an extensive film collection. A dining table, big enough for 6 adults overlooks the patio and garden.

Upstairs there are the two bedrooms, a double and a twin, with good quality beds, made and ready for your slumber. The modern shower room and WC is situated in-between the two bedrooms. Towels are provided as is extra linen should it be required.

There is also a wooden cot in the main room that can also act as a very small bed for a toddler. Baby equipment, changing mat, small baby bath etc are provided, as is a high chair for meal times. A travel cot is also provided.

Electricity is included in the fee, (a small contribution will be requested however for the charging of electric cars, please consult us).

The owners, Jim (English) and Ophélie (French), live next door and are readily available to provide any assistance, advice or help if you require it.

The gîte has been officially approved and rated 3 stars by the French Tourist Board.

Peaceful getaway in a beautiful setting

We had a lovely stay at the gîte in the beautiful Loire Valley. The accommodation was comfortable and well-equipped, offering everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. Our happy dogs could explore its garden safely. The location was good for exploring the charming towns, vineyards and châteaux in the area. Overall, everything was just as expected, and we enjoyed a pleasant and hassle-free stay. Thank you for the warm hospitality!

Lovely Christmas stay.

We have just came home from a week stay over Christmas. When we arrived the fire was lit and looked very homely. The little cottage had everything you need for a week stay. The walking on the old railway track was amazing. Good for walking or cycling. Can't fault the stay. Thank you.

Lovely early autumn break

A truly warm welcome as Jim, the owner of the property, had lit the log burner for us and there was a good stock of logs for subsequent evenings. It's a delightful property, well equipped, with pretty much everything you could need. L'Homme, the nearby village has a restaurant, creperie, patisserie, boucherie and a little general store - we used them all! There is an abundant stock of leaflets and guide books at the house covering walks locally and other attractions further afield. Summer guests would be able to enjoy the garden, but we can certainly recommend this as an out of season location. It isn't easy to find somewhere that is suitable for out of season French holidays.

Loved the cottage. Appreciated the welcome pack & logs for fire as well as local tips. Ideal for dogs with hard floors and large secure garden. Owners were close if needed but unobtrusive. All good.

Relaxing and peaceful week

The Gite is located in a beautiful part of Loire with many interesting places to visit within an hours drive. The Gite is fully equipped, peaceful and enjoys wonderful countrydside views. The outdoor space is particularly beautiful. The log fire is perfect for a cozy evening with a bottle of locally produced wine. Helpful and responsive hosts. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to escape for a week of peace, natural beauty and fine cuisine.

Lovely gite in fascinating area

The gite was exactly as described - and the owners helpful and contactable. There is so much to do locally - something for everyone in our age range of 8 to 48. The gite was immaculate and the local produce left for us was a lovely surprise. I am sure we will be back.

Relaxing fortnight at La Petite Grange

Having originally planned to stay in 2020 it was great to return to La Petite Grange in 2021. Set next to vineyard and set amidst great walking and cycling countryside and an hour’s drive from the Loire chateau there plenty to do if not relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. Owners Jim and Ophelie are hospitable and happy to provide any help or advice required. Rob and Stephanie

PLEASE keep this to yourself! - Pat and Luci.

Let’s get a couple of things very clear from the start: we don’t want to write this review, and read to the end to find out why! Never mind the welcoming bottle of the superb local Jasnieres wine. Never mind the cute little fresh eggs from our hosts’ own hens on the breakfast bar. The fact is, we don’t want to mention the noise problems but here are the harsh facts. Neighbour Claude (70 this year, couple of teeth left – we know this because he smiles all the time) has a rooster. OK, when you’re inside the house you never hear it because of the double glazing…but it crows. Maybe once an hour. Some days. The 75-yr-old twin brothers who own The Other Farmhouse have hens and geese. The hens cluck when they’re laying eggs, the geese honk sometimes. The hawks fly over in the middle of the day and call from about 300 feet up. Robins and thrushes sing. One morning a woodpecker landed in the back garden. It didn’t make any noise but we did! “Wow! A woodpecker!” One day Claude replaced a pair of shutters before the winter. Hectic day that was in La Petite Grange! With this amount of insane activity, thank God we had our cottage to escape to, when we weren’t touring chateaux and local vineyards. With every single appointment, furnishing, kitchen, cool design, technology (if you must), skylights and plants, (not to mention lunch under the spreading walnut tree) the cottage is a sanctuary from the pressures of living amongst five houses on a road that no one uses except…well…us…and Claude, and Jim and Ophelie, our fun, intelligent, caring host/neighbours. See, this is why we don’t want to write this review: if you also think this sounds like Heaven, you’ll want to go there and, the next time WE want to go, YOU might have booked “our” La Petite Grange before us. We do have one criticism: the cover on the ironing-board is luxuriously thick and tends to bunch up a bit. Why were we ironing on holiday? One does like to dress for dinner at historic L’Hotel de France in the local town, La Chartre sur Loir. You wouldn’t know who you’d meet.

Just perfect......

We stayed in this gite for one week in July. Its location is rural, private and very peaceful. We found the property to be exceptionally well equipped, very comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean. It has a delightful area outside with table, chairs and loungers and a tree providing welcome cool and shade. The table tennis table was a great extra and if you have youngsters then you will find lots of toys both outdoor and indoor to keep them amused. There was an attention to detail with this gite which made us feel very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Superb Gite That Won’t Disappoint

We had a fantastic stay at what is a superb gite that won’t disappoint in any way. We were given a very warm welcome from James, Ophelie and their family and have to say what lovely people they are. The gite is just as pictured, if not better and has so much character. We were a family of four and had ample space, it was spotlessly clean everywhere, had every utensil / item that you could ever need. Fresh eggs, homemade jam, milk, orange juice all provided by James and Ophelie were there for us upon arrival - a lovely touch, thank you. Located in a lovely small hamlet that is so peaceful during the day and night but only a sort drive from Le Mans, Tours, supermarkets, chateaus and vine yards. The garden is a really good size, very private and had the best of both worlds for sun or shade lovers. A massive thank you to James and Ophelie, we left so relaxed and hope to return again to visit friends!

Tranquil stay in beautifully restored limestone cottage

Our hosts were very considerate and welcoming, the hamlet was beautifully peaceful and the house very comfortable. We had a wonderfully quiet retreat from the bustle of city life and returned feeling very refreshed. Thank you Jim and Ophélie for a memorable stay. Ben and Adrine.

La petite grange visit

Had a pleasant week at this gite, very comfortable and well equipped. The weather was a bit variable, cloudy a lot, occasional rain (but quite warm) so we weren't able to use garden facilities very much. Very pretty area, lots of trees and rolling countryside and lots of lovely villages (our favourite was Lavardin with beautiful 900 year old church). Jim and Amelie welcomed us and left some very nice homemade jam, wine, eggs, and milk but sadly we didn't see them to say thank you and goodbye, we had to leave at 7.0 am for ferry home. Thank you anyway !

Fantastic home from home

Beautiful Gite with everything you could ask for for an enjoyable and relaxing vacation. La Petite Grange stands out from the crowd simply because of all the little touch's that make the place so comfortable, from the wine, milk and jam on arrival to the small lavender sprigs on the bedside tables, everything is just about perfect.

Great Gite in Tranquil Setting

We stayed for 2 weeks in 2014 and when deciding to go with family for a week this year La Petite Grange was an obvious choice. The quality of the property and welcome hasn't decreased in the 3 years since we last stayed. The property is set near to vineyards and in excellent walking country. Rob and Stephanie

Wonderful Gite. Lovely owners

This gite has everything you could possibly want. The kitchen was well equipped & there were some lovely gifts left by the owners, fresh eggs from their chickens, home made jam and a bottle of Epine. There is a small garden at the rear of the property that has a table & chairs & two loungers, there is also a BBQ in the garage. The gite, which is finished to a high standard is simply furnished but is bought to life with some lovely pictures painted by artists known to the family. The area around the gite is very rural but there are some charming small towns nearby. Le Mans is not too far away & the museum is worth visiting and the old town was a stunning revelation. Several nearby Chateau are worth a visit as well. We would have no hesitation in recommending this Gite to other visitors to the area.

Jim's a Brit, Ophélie is French and their two daughters are Franglais.
We have been living in France for 12 years and whilst Ophélie works in Le Mans, Jim works from home, next door to the gîte, so will always be available if any help is ever required.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property shortly after we bought our house next door. We realised straight away that it would make the perfect little gîte.

We fell in love with the area straight away. The location is great for travelling back to the UK and it has a nice mix of rurality whilst not being too far from the big towns of Tours and Le Mans.

It is a peaceful part of France but within easy driving distance of the more popular tourist areas of Normandy, Brittany and the Loire Valley. And that's not to say there aren't plenty of things to see and do locally!

The gîte is situated in a very small hamlet and our neighbours are very friendly yet suitably discreet!
