Beautiful Lodge in a stunning location

The owner, Julie, was very helpful and great with communication. a lovely welcome pack presented on arrival gave it a very nice touch. The Lodge is beautifully furnished and well set up with 3x large double bedrooms. Amazing views and location for the beach, long walks or a trip over to Plymouth via the foot ferry. Restaurant on site is great too. I highly recommend a visit here.

Relaxing getaway

We travelled to Whitsands Bay for a relaxing getaway and weren’t disappointed on arrival. The chalet lodge was clean and tidy and perfect for what we wanted. 3 decent sized bedrooms and all the amenities you need to make your stay comfortable. The resort itself was very nice with friendly staff, a great restaurant and a swimming pool for the children. The lodge overlooks fields and beautiful views which were great to gaze over at sunset and first thing in the morning. You are a short walk from The beach and although a bit of a climb back up at low tide the beach goes on for miles. Really enjoyed our time away and would definitely go back.

Whitsand

Lovely Holiday Chalet with plenty of room for our party of 5 adults. Welcome pack was a nice touch and our Host provided everything you needed for cooking, serving etc. Hot tub was put to good use every day. Gorgeous views over the hills and to Torpoint. Perfect location for us as had a family wedding at Polhawn Fort.

A lovely week away

We enjoyed a lovely week. The lodge proved to be a good base for enjoying the local beaches, villages and generally exploring the area. The lodge was clean, spacious, very well equipped and has a great view from the balcony which you can also enjoy when relaxing in the hot tub. We love the area and would certainly like to re-visit. The only negative for us was the on-site "restaurant". We ate their twice. First time was on the night of arrival as we were tired so just stayed local. Food was just ok. Second time around the food was terrible and although the bar staff were very good and refunded our meals (raw chicken) it was a very disappointing experience. Nevertheless, we had a great time overall and would definitely recommend staying in Julie's Lodge.

Lodge Whitsand Bay Fort

Fantastic location and very comfortable property. Had a lovely few days here, walking distance to a wonderful beach if you put the effort into the steps. Great attractions and lovely villages nearby to visit. Hot tub was lovely. Site was quiet which really suited us (there was a bar and entertainment if that’s what you want). Drive to the site is a bit of an ordeal down single track lanes, if you follow the satnav, but there is a good road if you go via Antony. All in all had a great time and would happily go back.

The lodge is unusually well equipped with all the bits and bobs you take for granted at home. . Views are fantastic, with local access to some of the best beaches and the site has recently much improved facilities. Highly recommend.

A very well presented and equipped lodge.

The lodge is situated in a less busy part of Cornwall with lovely views and very close to beaches. Always something to look at from the peaceful verandah and hot tub. It is a quiet site that is gradually adding further amenities. Owner Julie is easily contactable and forthcoming with the essential arrival and departure information. Overall, a very pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Lovely views but a few issues

Overall the property was well stocked with everything you need and the views are lovely. However on arrival the place smelled really doggy and we had to open all the windows. We later discovered during the week when we did a hoover through it was the Henry hoover. I think the bag or filters need changing. The drawers in the bedrooms were a bit dirty and there were spiders and webs on the ceiling in a bedroom and dog hairs on one of our beds and the outdoor seating. The hot tub also had dirt in it. So I think maybe the cleaner needs a word. I did report all this to the owner when we left but she did not respond to me. Previously she had been quite friendly. I think she thought we were complaining instead of giving feedback, but if that was the case we would have kept ringing her while we were there. Instead we just cleaned things up and got on with it. The outside lighting also doesnt work so we couldnt see to take the dogs out at night, which was quite dangerous. Worse than that was a metal spike sticking out of the grass near the path by the steps to the Lodge which my niece stood on in her slippers. She was very lucky it didnt go through her foot. Also trying to get our luggage down a steep gravel hill and steps a good 20 metres from the car park is no joke. It is slippery and you have to be pretty fit to manage it. We also fell out with other residents as we were not told that we were only allowed one parking space and we were 6 people coming in 3 cars. We just parked in empty spots only to find out they belonged to other Lodges. On the plus side, when we overcame these obstacles we had a lovely holiday. The hot tub was a lovely way to unwind every evening and the Lodge has lovely furniture and is very comfortable. I feel Julie felt me telling her about the few issues we had was a bad thing and not constructive and a way for her to improve things as she didnt respond to my text message at all. We were only trying to be helpful. The only true downsides I see are the distance you have to carry your luggage. Everything else is fixable.

Great, peaceful lodge.

Lovely property with everything you need away from home. The location is secluded, which may not suit everyone but a short walk to a great beach. (it is steep and tidal) The hot tub was fab, clean and ready to jump straight into.

Very well furnished, super clean lodge

Lovely furniture, plenty of equipment in the kitchen, really comfy beds, good hot showers, lovely hot tub. All really really clean and smelt lovely too. Great communication with owner before we left and while we were there. Would definitely recommend and would go back. Whitsand Bay is very quiet but with great cafe en route down the cliff. Be prepared for a steep but beautiful walk down!

Perfect property to recharge your batteries

I love when you find a property to stay for a week and it feels homily with a good comfortable sofa to watch the tele. The kitchen is super well equipped with high end appliances. The views from the hot tub are stunning and you can see cows, sheep, horses a glimpse of the sea. Everything was just perfect and Julie is very responsive and accommodating. Highly recommended.

Great place to stay

Wonderful spacious lodge with everything you need and amazing views! The hot tub was a great addition. The facilities are not as advertised, which is not a problem when the weather is good and the site is a bit rundown and unkept. Julie was really helpful and very responsive. The beach is great, definitely worth the steep climb. We had a lovely holiday.

Loved our visit. The lodge is so well equipped, was very clean and so comfortable. The location is very peaceful. The checkin process was smooth with a very personable and communicative owner. The hot tub was a bonus, although not all the jets work now as it is older. The location is close to a really great beach, but be aware that the steps really are steep!

A hidden gem indeed!

We had such a fantastic family holiday here. The property is very well maintained and enjoys gorgeous views of both the sea and estuary. I had read previous reviews, so we were expecting the cliff hike to the beach. With 4 children (including a 2 year old), although some places were a little daunting (steep steps, a couple of tight turns, with cliff edges) we managed this absolutely fine and the kids loved it! When you get to the beach it is well worth it. When the tide is out, there is so much room and rock pool exploring to do! Life guards are on patrol and there is the possibility of surfing lessons and even a few bucket and spades to hire! Definitely check the tide times though. Although we went down at high tide to go and check it out and had fun stone skimming :) The property’s location was ideal for us - set far enough away from the hustle and bustle. But within easy travelling distance to go and visit Looe, Plymouth, to name a few. We didn’t use any of the facilities of the immediate park (it was mostly closed still, because of Covid 19). But, the beach and the beautiful countryside were all we needed. The property had all we needed. It isn’t set up for toddlers, but this was fine, as Julie had communicated this beforehand. So, we took our travel cot, plastic beakers and plates etc. But there’s plenty of other crockery, pots, pans and even some cooking essentials, which were very handy! Julie was very responsive and helpful, thank you for having us to stay!

August family stay

We had a lovely stay, the property had plenty of space for the 6 of us ( 4 adults and 2 young children). The balcony area faces out over plymouth sound with beautiful views and the Jacuzzi was a perfect way to end the day. There was a supply of essentials in the kitchen which took the pressure off with shopping for things like cling film. Dishwasher was a bonus. Things to know in advance, the car park has allocated spots but nobody pays any attention to it, so just park wherever you like. There is a walk from the car park to the villa which is fine with bags, or you can go round the slope with a trolley. The swimming pool is ok, would shower back at the villa as the changing areas are tiny and not really maintained or cleaned. The closest beach is down a very steep path with uneven steps but worthwhile if you are able. You would need to carry small children as no handrails or barriers on edge. We loved the beach at east Looe which is a short drive and has more going on , crabbing area, shops, and playgrounds. Overall had a lovely stay!

About the host

Hosted by Julie Jouning

Host profile image
My name is Julie, my family and I have spent many happy holidays down in Cornwall. Whitsand is a beautiful place. I remember when I first saw the location and fell in love with it straight away. Even years on the views still take my breath away. I have two children both in their 20’s who still love going to Cornwall and live near Ascot.

Why they chose this property

We chose this location as we wanted a real get away and the perfect change of scenery . It is the perfect get away!
This coast line is so beautiful, the beach is never busy. It is also dog friendly all year round. There is a great cliff top cafe which sells home made food and they will make you up rolls to take to the beach. There are also vegan and gluten free options .
I have recently redecorated and put new furniture and curtains in our lodge. We have also this year brought a new hot tub.

What makes this property unique

The property is easy to maintain and within 5 mins of arriving we can be sat down with a glass of wine, open up the French doors and enjoy the fabulous views !
The hot tub is extremely popular and is for sole use of this property. It is treated with chlorine so if you or your children have skin conditions please be aware.
