Wonderful Christmas/New Year getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from Boxing Day until 2nd Jan. The maisonette is super clean and well equipped, the kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal including plenty of utensils, weighing scales and pans. The kids loved the added toys and games and if guests have younger children it’s lovely to see high chairs, a stair gate and plastic bowls and plates are all available. The maisonette is in an ideal location with the town and beaches within walking distance. Having a parking space that close to town is a big added bonus too. Justine is very proactive and helpful which is really appreciated. I would book this property with confidence again. Many thanks.

Great House for Family

We stayed for five nights in July. Justine was great at communicating and gave us all the necessary information well before we set off. The house was minutes walk from the beach and in a perfect location for all of St Ives, it had all the amenities we needed and more. It was also great exercise walking up and down the hill from the house daily. The house was quiet at night for a good nights sleep too!

Brilliant break away at driftwood 25th June 2021

When we first arrived driftwood was just how we expected it to be , homely clean and comfy! Had everything you could possibly need. Having 2 young children’s 2 and 4 years old it was very well equipped for them. It was just like a home from home . Comfy beds , and a chilled living room area. St Ives is such a beautiful place the views from driftwood windows are amazing . And especially in the from bedroom, we opened the window and looked at the stars late at night. The beach is just stunning , and my children Absolutely loved it. Driftwood also has a little park at the side which Is a god send when you have kids! There is a few steps at driftwood as it is on the top floor so be prepared. However you wouldn’t get your views if you was on the ground floor. The hills … welllll if you was a fit Olympian then I’m sure you wouldn’t have a issue!! However me on the other hand .. well found it a challenge ( ha ha ) but I guess it’s good for the calorie burning! This apartment is the perfect location , right next to the beach in walking distance. Locals shops etc . The apartments it’s self was like it was meant for us, children’s games , little bits and bobs to play with high chairs etc , and kids little plastic plates knifes and folks. There is also everything you need to keep it tidy! Which is in a Little cupboard under the stairs also provided hair dryer and iron and ironing boards . Lovely seating area outside which is where my husband and I , sat at night when the little ones was in bed, and played cards. Little town .. At times I did feel like the town was Absolutely hammered And this wasn’t in term time , so it wasn’t school holidays so am not sure . But it was hard to get into anywhere for a meal . We did try and book before hand however they said no need to book its first come first serve .. but then when you get there it’s bookings only . So that kind of was the only downfall visiting st Ives. So we ended up just cooking majority of the time with having young children . The host was amazing! And any questions I had to answered promptly, which was quite a few before I even arrived! Thanks again Justine to a wonderful holiday. And your apartment is all what anyone can ask for :) thanks for letting us stay The McDonalds

Overall the property is clean and well maintained internally. However, the outside space needs some attention as not very enticing, needs a weed, paint and the BBQ replacing (currently BBQ is unusable). WiFi did not work during the stay, seem to be issues with the router. The shower is temperamental, with the water changing during a shower from piping hot to cold constantly. Worth noting the deposit is returned three weeks after you leave the property, regardless of the condition the property is left in.

Calm, clean, spacious, light apartment near to but well away from the hustle and bustle

This was our third stay at Driftwood and I don't think there's anywhere else in St. Ives we would stay in now. We love how spacious yet homely the apartment is (quote from our 9-year-old son, who particularly loves his own home: 'I always feel really at home here and don't want to stay anywhere else'!). We also love how close the apartment is to Porthmeor Beach with its wonderful beach cafe, the Tate, the Island, etc. (It takes about 6 minutes to walk down and 9 back up - even carrying stuff.) It's also a very quick easy walk into any other part of St. Ives. And yet the apartment is out of the cramped and crowded streets, with lovely views of its own across to Godrevy. The apartment is equipped with everything anyone could need. The beds are extremely comfortable. It really has become a home from home for us. This year, we hired a chalet (beach hut) at West Beach, which we'd not been to before. It's all part of Porthmeor but definitely more secluded (and out of the usual south-westerly wind), slightly more chilled and has a great vibe in the evenings. The pizzas there are wonderful. It's also better for smaller children/younger families, as the sea isn't quite so vigorous and at low tide, there's tonnes to explore among the rocks and sand. We were slightly needy about keys this time but the owner and house-keeper both could not have been more helpful and patient. Thank you Justine and Diane once again. We will be back!

Great place to stay, enjoy the hills

Although not in the centre of the town, this is an ideal base for a stay in the wonderful St Ives. Getting around on foot is the best way to enjoy the town and you can reach the many places of interest and lovely beaches in 10-20 minutes. Driftwood is at one of the high points in the Ayr district of town, so there are wonderful views from both front and back. We're a family of 5 and found there was plenty of space to enjoy time together, either at meal times or when just relaxing. Check-in was simple and the facilities for cooking and washing clothes (and drying them) were very good. We enjoy walks along the coastal paths and beaches, all of which are quickly accessed from this property. The town and area is a gem (in our view) with masses of activities on the doorstep. If you want to go further afield, we can recommend using buses to reach places such as Land's End, Marazion, Mousehole and other sights in the locality, rather than the car, unless you fancy getting your hiking boots on to get around - a perfectly good idea if you've time. Perhaps the only negative of the property is the rather delapidated set of steps you climb to reach the front door. This presents a less than positive impression, when in all other ways, we would recommend this property.

Great Stay

Was a lovely apartment with everything we needed for the week we stayed. It was easy to check in and out. Everything is a short walk away, like everywhere in st Ives this does include some hefty hills! But if you can’t manage them it’s only £4 in a taxi from the harbour to the apartment! My only advice would be if you are travelling with a baby, take a travel baby gate, the one at the apartment doesn’t fit the stairs and there is no door to block them off from downstairs! Not a major issue though :) thanks for having us!

Overall this is a lovely apartment

We booked this apartment for our Annual New Year visit. It’s a lovely apartment with almost everything you could possibly need for your stay. However, for us, the downside was there was no central heating only small electric radiators which for the size of the apartment were inadequate. We actually sat in coats at times to keep warm and fought over who would cook so you could be near the oven heat. It took us 2 days to figure out how to get hot water in the kitchen. The back bedroom was very damp and we could not get the little radiator to work at all so had to build the bed up with blankets to keep warm during the night. The shower could also be considered an issue for children and the elderly. The cleaning cost of £50 could be considered excessive for the Winter considering you had to take your own bedding and towels which is an inconvenience. The China could also look at being replaced as a good 50% had chips in. Please don’t be put off by my comments as overall, this is a nice apartment and situated in a good spot with parking (which saves you around £50pw). We would definitely visit again, albeit in the Summer....

Light, spacious, comfortable with sea views

Driftwood is a great base in which to explore St Ives and the rest of the South-West peninsular. It is in a quieter part, being a little way out, but an easy 10 minute walk into the town centre at the most. It is surprisingly spacious with a balcony that has views over the rooftops of Godrevy lighthouse. It is comfortable, warm and well equipped.

Lovely flat, great location

We loved our holiday, the flat was just what we needed, small, but in a perfect location for town and a beautiful beach (with a great restaurant) close by. My children especially loved the junior board games! For future guests: Take your own bath towels (or you can rent them) as they are not provided. Cleaning after the stay is not included in the price, so add on an extra £50 for that (seems quite a lot - but beats trying to pack up and do a complete clean all by 10am) Also, Wifi is really weak

About the host

Hosted by Justine Jenkins

Host profile image
Myself, husband, 2 children and a cockapoo live & work in Nottinghamshire. I run www.vitalityfitnessholidays.com and my husband is a consultant respiratory physician.

I grew up in Cornwall in Hayle and worked summers in St Ives as a teenager. Most of my extended family still lives locally.

Why they chose this property

I grew up here and we love St Ives and the whole area. I know the area really well and return to visit about 4 times a year.
Having a holiday let has given me a small income which enables me to work part time. This means I can spend a lot of time with my 2 children and support them through school. It also means we can visit our family regularly.

I think the coast here is the most beautiful in the whole of the UK. Simply never ceases to amazing me and we hope one day to be able to live here. It is wonderful to have the choice of 4 beaches all different to visit with gourmet contemporary cafes & restaurants.

Driftwood is easy to find and you can access it without having to go through the town centre. Private parking is right outside, being on a hill gives remarkable views.

What makes this property unique

I look forward to staying at Driftwood I love the way it feels like a house in the sky, beautiful coastal sea views, close to Porthmeor beach & coastal footpath. But very private, quiet & away from crowds. Driftwood is set in a block of 12 maisonettes, 6 at the top, 6 at the bottom. We are up 23 steps.
We have made it open open plan so you can spend time together as a family, we have a lot of DVD's, books and games we can play as a family that include everyone. It is so light and modern & keeping it clean is really easy we have equipped it so you can eat in easily and it has all the mod cons.
The private parking space is so convenient right outside in Ayr Court carpark.
We love the sun terrace & eat outside a lot using the Weber BBQ. As it is south facing and gets very hot so I often have my morning coffee on the sun terrace looking at the beautiful view of St Ives Bay and Hayle beach. Sunset/ sunrise its always beautiful.
Having Ayr field & playground adjacent means the children can just go off & play giving them some independence and us some down time. Our Cockapoo loves the field too . My favourite place is sitting in bed with the large square window open looking at the stars and listen to the waves crashing, then in the morning looking at the sea to see what the weather is doing and thinking about what the day will bring.
