Family break

We had a lovely few days in Damerham, enjoying bike rides and visiting the wider area. The property was perfect and had everything we needed. Ally and Richard were very welcoming and extremely kind and patient with the children. We would definitely recommend booking!

A lovely half term break

Very cosy little 'cabin' with a fabulous large dog friendly garden. Comfortable beds, I would say that the duvets were lovely and warm. The sofas are perhaps in need of replacing soon as obviously well loved and sag a bit when you sit in them, great shower with good water pressure for a cabin! In the children's room the duvet sets were brown which I think could be improved with something more country themed or child friendly and innkeeping with the rest of the cabin. Well appointed, lots of useful utensils. Sadly the electric Wood Burning stove wasn't working which would have been very nice on those wet evenings so that was disappointing, they did try to fix it, sadly to no avail. My only comment for improvement would be that In the children's room (bunk beds) the duvet sets were brown which I think could be improved with something more country themed or child friendly and innkeeping with the rest of the cabin but this is obviously a minor quibble! The hosts were helpful and we had good communication with them. Would highly recommend the local pub in Rockbourne ' The Rock & Thistle' and we also had a nice Indian Takeaway from the restaurant in Fordingbridge.

Absolutely Perfect!

Came for a short break with our new rescue dog. Needed somewhere quiet with lots of places to walk and plenty of room for a German Shepherd. The cabin was perfect with a lovely enclosed garden and very dog friendly. Alison respected our request to let us settle in before introducing herself. The finishing touches to the cabin were delightful with some very welcome essentials waiting on our arrival. We will definitely be staying here again and recommending it. A very relaxing and comfortable weekend. Thank you.

Week Stay in July 2020

We along with our two dogs had a wonderful week. The property had everything you could need, spotlessly clean and super comfy bed. The garden was beautiful and secure for both our dogs who loved sunbathing. Great Internet conection so could use our Apple TV to watch a movie in the evening. Nothing too much trouble for Alison or Richard. Had amazing walks in the New Forest and Hengistbury Beach is dog friendly all year round. Local pubs The Compasses and The Rose & Thistle served great food. Would definately stay again.

Blissful weekend

Perfect little haven in the New Forest. Beautifully kept, comfy and welcoming. Everything we needed plus some extras, including fresh eggs from the owner, Alison’s chickens. I spent the weekend there with my husband, 2 teens and our pup and we all had a great weekend. Managed to fit in a visit to Moors Park including Go Ape, taking the dog for his first dip in the Sea, a trip to the Forest Aqua Park and a lovely dinner in the Compasses pub. Perfect base for a family break and we’d love to return there.

Beautiful and relaxing break

We had a lovely time at this chalet which is in a beautiful location with its own private garden and a short walk to the local pub. Very clean, very pretty grounds and the kids loved collecting fresh eggs from the chicken and stroking the ponies, dog and cat. It’s in easy reach of various attractions in the New Forest and the beaches at Bournemouth and Poole. Very friendly owners. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Perfect family getaway.

Just got back from spending a week at this beautiful holiday cabin. Firstly I’d like to thank Alison and partner for being wonderful hosts. Any and all questions were answered in advance, they welcomed us and made us feel at home and they allowed us to order an online shop, which arrived before us. Alison kindly unpacked all of our shopping enabling us to give our hungry kids’ their dinner promptly when we arrived. The holiday cabin had everything we needed with enough space for the 4 of us to feel at home and comfy. The cabin was immaculately clean and equipped for all our needs. The kids enjoyed the gardens especially as they don’t have one at home and Alison was kind enough to invite them to feed her chickens which they looked forward to each day. It felt like a home away from home and after a few days we felt like we didn’t want to leave. The cabin is conveniently located for days out in the New Forest, Lymington and surrounding areas; and we found ourselves drawn more to the outdoors and exploring the new forest with our kids. We all had so much fun and would happily stay again. The week was just perfect x

About the host

Hosted by Alison Acland

Host profile image
Hi, I'm Ally Acland,

I live at October House with my husband, Richard, and (sometimes) our three children - Lottie, Tom and Milly - who are in their late 20s and 30s setting off in life.

I am semi-retired, work part-time as a gardener and run our lovely holiday Cabin. It has been going for over 10 years now and has never failed to receive 5 star reviews for which I am extremely proud. My passions are gardening, my animals and sailing with Richard (his passion!).

I always enjoy meeting our guests and advising them on where to go and what to see.

Why they chose this property

We bought October House as our family home and with it came quite a few out buildings.

The holiday cabin was originally our own guest suite. I then ran it as a B&B for 3 years very successfully and realised what a great area we live in for holiday makers. Its lovely tranquil rural setting close to the New Forest and many interesting attractions and the coast is ideal for a family holiday. So now I have doubled it in size and put in a kitchen and another en-suite bedroom to make a great holiday accommodation.

We created the large dog-proof garden because we know how people like to bring their dogs. Being part of our larger garden means guests can enjoy that too and all our animals.

We love the area and enjoy seeing our guests appreciate it too.

What makes this property unique

This great spot has everything for a great family (or romantic) holiday - space, rural tranquillity, lovely garden and trees, great pubs and local walks - all within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
We are within an hour from the coast with fantastic beaches, cliffs and walks.
We are just 15 minutes from the New Forest - 100s of square miles of open country and forest for all to enjoy.
Historic Salisbury and Stonehenge are a short drive and there are many many historic houses, National Trust properties and children's attractions within an hour.
