Renovated A a few years ago , Barley cottage has a spacious area downstairs , still retaining charm and old beams of its past life as a grain store to the farm. The South downs are about 15 minutes drive from the cottage , and Eastbourne is 25 minutes. We also live close to Ashdown Forest , and many national trust properties including Burling Gap and Seven Sisters , Sissinghurst castle and Batemans.

Lovely Cottage

Feels like a very recent barn conversion, but the ratings show it to be older than it looks. A really great layout for small family reunions, having open spaces and quiet nooks for personal chats. Both bedrooms are ensuite. Big, well-equipped kitchen. Quite remote but good shopping is adequately close.

Lovely cottage

Very nice country refuge. Beautiful scenery and so peaceful. Super friendly pubs with excellent food at reasonable prices. (6 Bells and Kings Head for tons of character and great meals without chips!). Accommodation was clean, comfy and spacious.

Good quality property in quiet country location

Spacious. Unusually has 2 lounge areas. Excellent if you want to visit north, south, east and west but you may prefer to be nearer the coast if that is your main area of interest (weather permitting)

Brilliant!

Barley Cottage is a lovely well-appointed cottage, with kind friendly helpful owners who gave us some excellent suggestions for places to go. I loved sitting in the front garden with the rose and that wonderful willow tree. And there were some great books on the bookshelves

Barley Cottage

We had a wonderful stay at Barley Cottage. It is spacious, comfortable, very well equipped and in such a quiet location. I would definitely want to stay at one of the Granary Cottages again if we returned to the area as there is still lots for us to see and do.

Granery Cottages

Excellent, quiet, country location. Very friendly owners who are readily available but not ‘in your face’. The cottage was immaculate and well appointed. Everything has been considered and we could not fault it in any way - in fact we were tempted to move in permanently!

Tranquil rural hideaway

This is a beautifully presented rural cottage. In a very quiet location, we had a great time exploring the local countryside, coast, and NT gardens. The hosts were warm and friendly, and popped in just to check we had all we needed. This is a very well equipped cottage and was spotless. It is spacious and light , and we didn't use all of the seating areas. It was a little cold to sit outside, but the secluded patio did look inviting. The cottage was very warm and cosy, and the large kitchen made eating-in very easy. Easily one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. Thank you.

Charming, comfortable and cosy.

We really enjoyed our stay in this delightful cottage which was convenient for all the sights in East Sussex. Great having 2 en-suites - which are hard to find - and flexibility with number of nights made it perfect for mum and me. Will definitely recommend to friends visiting the area.

Well renovated quiet country cottage

We wanted a quiet place to stay for 2 couples near to Lewes and this cottage is in a quiet country Lane approached via a series of twisting lanes from the main roads. There are other houses on the lane including working farms. The cottage is one of 3 conversions from the original grain store. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped and the owners, Katie and Michael were very friendly and helpful, promptly answering our questions when we had them. The cottage has 2 double bedrooms which are big enough, but not huge; comfortable beds and an en-suite shower room for each. Downstairs is open plan with a quiet corner for watching TV- we were there during the World Cup- and another comfortable sitting area at the front for those who just want to sit. The dining table was fine for the 4 of us, with space to put the foods we had bought. The fridge was quite small, but we could store other items in the freezer- we had brought some things from home to use up so it was a bit overfull at times. The garden is small but private enough to sit outside. We enjoyed the stay from where we explored the local attractions and we had good days out at Batemans and Sheffield Park and Lewes. We would return there if we wanted to come back to East Sussex.

A great property

A lovely place to stay. Quiet and peaceful and a lovely property decorated to a high standard. Very comfy beds. The only thing I would add is a small sign next to sink in kitchen to say if someone is in shower don’t turn on hot water tap in kitchen - result one cold blast of water in shower. A good location for visiting lots of different historical places.

Home from home base for a family holiday

Barley Cottage is a lovely home from home. We had a great holiday based here, despite the British summer's best attempts to thwart us! The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and maintained to a very high standard. We enjoyed the proximity to a wide variety of different days out whilst relishing the surrounding peace of the East Sussex countryside. Definitely hope to return again.

Cozy and warm rural break

Barley cottage was a lovely place for a cozy winter break. Perfect for our family with 2 young kids (stair gates were a blessing). Local walks through surrounding fields were lovely and easy. Driving distance to shops and pubs (possibly a walk in the summer) but very peaceful as a result. Facilities in the cottage were great - tv, DVD player, wifi and well stocked kitchen. Only suggestions for improvement would be a better folder with instructions for things like operating heating etc.

A little hidden gem which has to be experienced

A peaceful location with unexpected view of the Downs from outside. Well appointed cottage which exceeded all our expectations. So spacious inside loved the layout of the space downstairs with the garden room in which we spent happy evenings relaxing with a book. Best cottage we have ever stayed in for lighting in all the appropriate areas. Cottage was pristine, lovely bed linen and towels. Katie was most welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. This is definitely one we would return to and recommend to friends.

Fantastic cottage!

Oh.my.goodness! As soon as we walked through the door, we fell in love with this cottage. Little touches....tea snd coffee, biscuits, sweet peas on the table.....were fantastic. As for the cottage itself......we were in the lap of luxury! Beautifully done out, we felt spoilt. In the middle of nowhere, which was just what we wanted. Not for those looking for nightlife etc! Good local pub, easy access to National Trust properties. Would we come back? Yes please!
