About this property

Traditional holiday cottage - cosy and welcoming

Bill's is an unpretentious but very welcoming traditional cottage. If you are looking for a property with a hot-tub and a cinema sized TV Bill's isn't for you but if you simply want a comfortable holiday home to relax in and as a base to explore the beauties of Bodmin Moor and the spectacular Cornish coast we hope it will be just your cup of tea.
We have recently installed Broadband WIFI to which you will have unlimited free access.
If you are planning a winter visit we have upgraded the central heating from "OK" to "toasty" - there is also an open fire in the lounge.

Bill's is located in Tregoodwell, a small hamlet on the edge of Bodmin Moor, just a 10 minute walk from Camelford where you will find shops, an inexpensive car park (free for the first two hours and in the evening), a pretty park with a childrens' playground, an award winning fish & chip shop and a great pub serving local beers and excellent home cooked food.

Walkers and bird watchers will love Bodmin Moor – beautiful in all weathers. Trebarwith Strand, one of North Cornwall's most spectacular sandy beaches, can be reached in less than 10 minutes by car. The beach is popular with surfers -you can hire boards and wetsuits from the little beach shop - but there are rock pools to explore too. If the tide is in there's a pub on the cliff top which is the perfect place to watch the sun slipping below the horizon in the evening.

Tintagel, famous for King Arthur's Castle, and Boscastle are both fairly local and deserve a visit. Padstow, Port Issac – the location for Doc Martin, The Eden Project, Watergate Bay and the Bodmin and Wenford steam railway are all within easy reach as are many other attractions. Poldark fans will enjoy a day out to Charlestown the location for harbour scenes - lovely tall ships are usually in the harbour and there is a fascinating shipwreck museum. The area even has its own vineyard and Camel Valley wines can be reached in about half an hour. Port Issac, the setting for Doc Martin is also easy to reach. If you fancy a break from driving the 95 bus will take you to Tintagel, Boscastle, Widemouth Bay and Bude. Best to check times with a quick google - "95 bus Camelford to Bude"

Bill's was built well over 200 years ago but there is a modern extension containing a large twin- bedded room and a large kitchen with a washing machine, tumble drier, cooker, fridge and microwave. There is a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a bedroom with bunk beds – much loved by children. There is a comfortable lounge with an open fireplace and a separate dining room. The back garden, which overlooks farm land, is enclosed and catches the sun for most of the day.

Bill's has its own garage for one car but, to be honest, you won't get a people carrier in there.

Guests pay for the electricity they use (at cost). We do not supply bed linen (all beds have duvets, bedspreads and pillows) or towels but if you are travelling from overseas and have a limited luggage allowance please contact us and we will see if we can help. Dogs are very welcome at Bill's and there is no additional cleaning charge for pets.

We hope that you will choose Bill's for your Cornish holiday and that you will have a wonderful time.

Lovely new year break

Bill's cottage was a lovely, quiet location with easy walk in to Camelford where there's a pub, take aways and shops. Hosts were really informative about what to expect and how everything worked and really kind. There were lots of additional lovely touches like a hamper on arrival and the open fire was wonderful while we played board games from the cottage. There are so many lovely beaches within 15 minutes drive and of course the awesome Tintagel. We had a really wonderful stay and would absolutely recommend. Thank you.

Delightful New Year's Break

The cottage was just perfect, exactly what was needed for a quiet & relaxing family break away. The cottage was spotless, immediately inviting & as a family we thoroughly enjoyed playing games & completing the puzzles that were provided. The fire was an added bonus & many a s'more was made. The owners were extremely accommodating & easily contactable. We couldn't rate Bill's cottage enough & look forward to hopefully going back for a break there again soon.

Thanks for stay

Well-equipped property with plenty of room inside. Good to park in garage as the lanes are narrow and neighbours keen to guard parking spaces! Close to Camelford town centre and other places of interest like Tintagel and Port Isaac.

Perfect!

My wife & I stayed here with my Mum, Dad, Sister & our 4 Month old daughter, wanting a base to explore the North Cornwall coast. We couldn't have asked for more! Prior to our stay the communication from the hosts was excellent, and they even went out of our way to provide a parking solution for our two cars. The property itself is exactly as described - Cosy & Welcoming. Full of character, full of charm - the perfect place to stay and come back to at the end of the long day, and recharge ready for the next. The cottage is very spacious - there were 5 adults & a young baby, and we had no problem at all moving around as we all needed too.The bedrooms are equally spacious and the beds incredibly comfortable. The bathroom has everything you'd need, as does the kitchen - which benefits from its length which provides and exceptional amount of counter space - which was great for us as we're still having to sterilise everything for the little one! It was great we could be doing this while others prepared a meal / washed up, and at no point were we getting in each others way or under each others feet. The living room benefits from a similar length, with ample space for the six of us and even the opportunity to take the baby away for a spot of quiet time without having to be in a separate room from everyone else. Access to the property was also a big plus - we had no problem getting a pram in and out, and the decent sized porch helped our morning prep! Highly recommended.

Great little cottage

Lovely old fashioned cottage in a quiet location. Easy drive to Port Isaac, Polzeath, Padstow and others. The weather was against us on our June holiday but still plenty to keep us occupied. If you have a larger car or 2 cars make sure you give the host plenty of notice so she can organise parking. Great communication and we had a lovely stay at Bills Cottage

Comfortable and quiet

Jan was great at communicating and provided a lovely welcome hamper. The kitchen was well supplied. We enjoyed cozy evenings with the fireplace lit, after going to some lovely local spots. The St Nectans waterfall and going to Tintagel was very nice. Padstow was only a half hour drive. Neighbour's were lovely and let us park in their drive.

Great weekend in our favourite part of Cornwall

This is a great cottage for exploring north Cornwall. Yes it’s basic but that is accurately reflected in the listing but also in the price! The cottage has everything you need and was spacious enough for our family of five and two dogs. Surfing at Trabarweth was our highlight but spoilt for choice for beaches.

Lovely cottage. Peaceful setting.

We had a lovely break in Bill’s Cottage. It was clean and very homely. We felt we were right out in the country although Camelford is just a short walk away. The dogs enjoyed it too. We’ll definitely be making a return visit in the future.

Cosy Cottage

A wonderful little cottage. There was loads of room. Everything you would need in a home from home. With a cute garden. We had such a lovely time, with great dog walks close by and stops just a five minute walk away. We tried out the local pub for food and the chip shop one evening, they were both fantastic. I had great communication with Jan the whole time before our trip and she was just fantastic catering to our needs. Set in a beautiful little village style street, we felt very welcome by all the neighbours We would most definitely come again. Thank you

Home from home with everything anyone would need

When we walked it was like home for home, a hamper with tea, coffee and milk with biscuits and sweets for the children. ( 3 very smiley faces) Plenty for the kids to do with games and toys as well as playing in the garden. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us the bedrooms very spacious and plenty of room for luggage. Avril the neighbour was so welcoming, we parked on there drive as are car was to big for the garage. The children loved chatting with Avril about what we had been up to this week. Nothing was ever to much. We hope to be back next year checking dates as I write this!! Thank you for letting us stay in your amazing cottage

Great cottage. Great Location

It took us a while to actually locate the cottage but once there it was wonderful. There is a garage, but you have to be confident of reversing at an angle to park in it - It's only a very narrow lane and parking is premium. When they said, 'fully equipped kitchen', they really meant it! The enclosed rear garden was brilliant for my grandsons, (aged 3 & 8), to run around and play in. Everything was spotless. The beds were really comfy. We enjoyed having an open fire at night - sticks, logs & coal from BP station. A truly an authentic cottage with a small extension, with the thick, stone walls you would expect. The rooms easily accommodated 5 of us. You have to go through room with the bunks to get to the twin room, but that's how houses were built back then. Loads of storage space for luggage - including under bed, pull out storage draws - we actually took the one from the double room and put it in the sitting room as a toy box. There doesn't appear to be any soundproofing in the cottage, but anyone who moans about noisy floor boards and creaky wooden doors shouldn't stay in 200+ year old cottage. We would definitely book again and have already recommended it to colleagues and friends. It' only a few minutes walk to the centre of Camelford, which has a good array of shops and food/drink outlets (the fish & chip shop is excellent). The people there were so friendly. It was Jubilee week, so there was loads going on for all ages. We went to the teddy bears picnic in the park and stayed all day - everyone was so accepting of us. We didn't feel like visitors at all.

A great break

Perfect location to explore the area. We stayed 3 nights. Fabulous coastal walks to admire phenomenal landscapes at a short driving distance. We used National Trust booklet available in the cottage to help with walks. An absolute pleasure to deal with the owner, who was really kind, generous and helpful from the start. Thank you very much for everything!

I'm Londoner and Bob is from the West Midlands. I fell in love with Cornwall when I was 13 and Bob shares my passion for this beautiful part of the world.

We are both now retired - I was a Press Officer, a high stress but enjoyable job and Bob was an Orchestral musician.

.

Why they chose this property

We have rented many holiday cottages over the years from the tatty to the luxurious and we wanted a cottage that we could make homely but no so grand that guests were afraid to come through the front door with their shoes on.

We viewed several properties in this area from "fixer- uppers" to rather posh but all very nice indeed. We had driven past the entrance to Tregoodwell many times on trips to the Moor and wondered what it was like so, when Bill's came on the market we had to see it. As soon as we walked in we knew it was right for us because it felt friendly - which probably sounds crazy but I'm sure you will know what I mean from your own experience of buying or renting a home

Over the years we have had many lovely guests from all over the world and I'm happy to say that many regard Bill's as their second home and book again and again.

We love this part of Cornwall - the spectacular coast and the Moor and the fact that it is a short journey to many other wonderful places. We hope that if you holiday here you will love it too.

What makes this property unique

We loved the age of the house, the windows set in deep recesses and the sense that it had been a home to many, many generations.

The first floor would originally been the attic where the family slept ( the roof was raised many years ago) and access would have been via a ladder where the stairs are now. Downstairs would have consisted of one room - now divided into two. The entrance to the back extension would have been the original outside wall. Its fun to sit by the fire and wonder what it would have been like back in the day. The original tenant in the 18th Century is listed as: " a seamstress from Tintagel" - I often wonder how she could see to sew on a dark winter day with, probably, only one window on the ground floor in those days - she must have had wonderful eye sight!

We also love the view over the valley from the garden and the local strolls up onto the Moor especially in spring when the stone "hedges" are covered in snowdrops in February and violets, primroses and daffodils in March and April and seeing the lambs in the fields. We make sloe gin most autumns from the plentiful blackthorn hedges that grow in the lanes and woodlands.

We now have central heating and modern appliances of course and the house has been extended to create a third bedroom, bath room and modern kitchen but you can, of course roast chestnuts and toast crumpets on the fire in the winter so the break with tradition is not complete.
