About this property

The Saddlery Holiday Cottage - Near the Lincolnshire Wolds and sandy beaches

The Saddlery is a detached, self-contained cottage with many luxurious features. It has enjoyed fantastic reviews and received many travel awards since opening in June 2017. Make it your base for exploring this beautiful part of Lincolnshire. It's only 2 miles from the Lincolnshire Wolds, a 200 square mile Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a short drive from deserted, sandy beaches or traditional seaside resorts. It's situated in the heart of the village of North Thoresby, with shops and two pubs with restaurants. It also has the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, which operates steam trains most weekends. There are many country walks to be enjoyed in the vicinity. The Georgian market town of Louth, with its many independent shops, bars, restaurants, and other attractions is 7 miles away and horse racing at Market Rasen can be reached in 20 minutes by car. It's a similar distance to the motor cycling circuit at Cadwell Park. The cathedral city of Lincoln can be reached in 45 minutes. There are many, fine golf courses in the area.

Park your car in the private, off-road space and enjoy the lovely gardens with yew hedging, weeping willow tree and ornamental borders. To the front of the cottage there's a flagstone patio, with table and chairs. The entrance door leads into an open plan dining area and fully fitted kitchen. There's a cosy lounge, with fireplace, comfortable furnishings, and large screen TV with radio and access to streaming services. Upstairs is a luxuriously furnished double bedroom with a cosy double bed, 4 seasons duvet and high thread count, white bed linen. The bedroom also enjoys garden views and has a chest of drawers, dressing table and large, built in wardrobe. The very spacious bathroom has a white suite which includes a full-size bath, wash basin, WC, and separate shower. Fluffy white towels are provided

The Saddlery is double glazed, has gas central heating and a flame effect fire for year round comfort. A washing machine/dryer, iron and board are provided to make longer stays an option.

Excellent accommodation, great attention to detail, welcoming hosts, lots to do

Good base from which to explore a part of the country we had never been to before. The property itself could not have been better; it was spacious, comfortable and well appointed and gave us everything we needed. Peter and John were welcoming and helpful and gave us good advice about places to go, where to eat...we certainly want to go back.

Home from home

An excellent little property that is truly home from home. All the facilities you could wish for and truly lovely hosts, who provided provisions such as bread, butter, tea, coffee, jam and marmalade. John gave us ideas for days out, places to eat and was really helpful. Will certainly be returning to this home from home.

Lovely spacious cottage for 2

This is one of the best holiday homes we've stayed in - spacious, comfortable, and plush (good bed linen and towels, including proper bath sheets etc); well resourced and stocked (sharp knives, cupboard space, washing machine etc). The furnishings and decor (plump sofas; dresser with china) really gave a homely feeling. Lots to do in the area too. We're definitely going back!

We arrived to a warm and welcoming cottage, everything was beautifully set out, together with a most appreciated fridge of essentials. Lots of information on places to visit, walks etc. from our kind host’s which we took full advantage of, making a lovely memorable holiday.

Peaceful very comfortable stay in Lincolnshire

My wife & I enjoyed our six-night stay @ The Saddlery. It is very well presented & was very clean. The welcome pack is a nice touch. Plenty of room to park our car. Well appointed kitchen/dining area & lounge. Comfortable bed, lovely bathroom with fabulous power shower, lots of lovely large clean towels. Plenty of wardrobe/drawer space. One of the best holiday cottages we have stayed at. Would recommend to friends & family. John our host was very polite & gracious.

Lovely property; great location!

This delightful cottage is cosy and beautifully decorated. Well-equipped kitchen; sleek, elegant bathroom with powerful shower. So pretty throughout! Owner is very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area without being at all intrusive. Folders of useful information available in the cottage. Walking distance of good village store and 2 pubs — although the better of the pubs in our opinion (The New Inn) is a bit of a hike (you will work up a thirst!). Very attractive village — great location for checking out the Wolds. Nothing negative to say about our experiences here at all.

Comfort and cleanliness in Lincolnshire.

We have been to many self-catering properties over the past fifty years, this was one of the very best. The quality of the furnishings and fittings is very good, and parking is easy We found we need not have brought any provisions with us, tea, coffee, butter etc were fresh and lasted us the full fortnight. A full change of linen at the end of the first week was a pleasant surprise and the vases of roses a lovely touch! The only note of caution is that the property is not suitable for those with limited mobility as the stairs are steep.

A little Slice of heaven in a great location!

A truly beautiful home from home, perfect for 2 people. We arrived after dark and the fire, heating and some lighting had been put on for our arrival, we also found a welcome pack of some basic essentials which was a lovely touch. John popped over to greet us (the house is in the grounds of his stunning home) to ensure we were happy and settling in, he was also able to advise on local places of interest and places to eat. We tried the Halfway House pub and Grill which was just a short walk and had a good steak dinner. Apart from Fish and chips at the coast, we ate at the house the rest of the time as we were only there 2 nights and just wanted to realx. We could not fault the property at all, it is even better than the pictures...very well equipped with luxurious furnishings, comfy bed and a huge bathroom with lovely big fluffy towels. We wish we could have stayed longer but would definitely like to return.

Our Saddlery Cottage Stay

We had a wonderful stay at the Saddlery Cottage. It was far better than expected - the cottage had a superb ambience, it was warm and inviting and was beautifully decorated. It was fitted with everything one could possible need, as well as a welcome breakfast pack for a tired traveler. It was very clean and smelt like freshly picked roses. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming and helped us get around Lincolnshire to see as much as possible. I would recommend the Saddlery - you will not be dissappointed

About the host

Hosted by John Butterworth

Host profile image
I first discovered this part of Lincolnshire in 2015 and moved here in 2016. I can honestly say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. This area has so many wonderful places to explore and unspoilt by tourism. It has excellent quality food and some interesting local specialities. You will find many things to do and enjoy.

Why they chose this property

This is a building with a 200-year history. Firstly, as a leather workshop, more recently as a home and since 2017, a holiday cottage.

What makes this property unique

Pubs, restaurants, and shops all within walking distance. Well connected to public transport. Close to the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds and unspoilt sandy beaches. This is a largely undiscovered part of England with many interesting places to visit and explore. The cottage has all the facilities and comforts you need for a short break or a longer stay up to 4 weeks.
