About this property

Farran House - Groups of 6 - 16

This is a large, elegant 18th century, Italianate style, Irish manor house situated in the rolling hills of the Lee valley, overlooking the medieval castle and abbey of Kilcrea.
Farran house is spectacularly set in 12 acres of mature beech woodland and landscaped gardens. The owners, John & Patricia have carried out a mammoth restoration job and the result is a luxurious, charming manor house, full of character. They opened their doors to rental guests in 1997 and haven't looked back since.
The elegant interior is full surprises. Hanging with old paintings and engravings there are exquisite antique kelims. There are interesting antique furnishings throughout the house, including a 1903 Bechstein grand piano in the drawing room and a full size billiard table in the billiard room.
All main house guest rooms have large bathrooms and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.
It is a perfect base for exploring counties Cork and Kerry. It is situated 9 miles from Blarney, 38 miles from Killarney and 10 miles from Cork city and airport.

A wonderful holiday trip

We had an excellent stay in Cork! The house was beautiful and grand. We walked around the property and met their sheep and lots of adventures. A car is a must as you will want to go on adventures near the house including Kilkrea castle and the Blarney Castle. We had 12 people and there was plenty of room for all! I would definitely go back. The owners were wonderful and very accommodating.

True Rest in a County Manor

Farran House was even more than what we expected. It was an Elegant place for our group to gather, rest up from our tour, and to relax. We thoroughly enjoyed roaming the property and resting in the house. Everyone had thier own space and had space to share. Excellent location outside of town, but close enough to pop in. Book it!

Gorgeous, Delightful Location

Our family of 17 had the most delightful week at Farran House. It was a perfect location to make day trips to all the sights we wanted to see, but there was so much more to do ~ we decided we'll have to make another trip to Ireland in the near future. Our hosts were wonderfully welcoming and the accommodations were even better than expected. There was something there for everyone. The week went by much too fast.

Trip of a lifetime

From first entering the private drive of Farran House you feel instantly transported to a different place and time. The property is breathtaking and the house is stunning. John and Patricia were terrific hosts and extremely accessible. We traveled in a family group from Massachusetts with our 2.5 yr old son whom described the house as “the most beautiful house he’s ever seen”. We spent much time walking the idyllic enchanting property looking for ‘fairies and leprechauns’ as it felt that magical. We hope to visit again soon!

A Beautiful Holiday

Farran House is simply just an amazing place to stay. Set in stunning grounds, the house is spacious and extremely well equipped. Every room is appointed beautifully, with lovely antique furniture and ornaments. The kitchen is very much the heart of the house and has everything anyone would need in terms of equipment. We had sing songs round the piano and evenings playing snooker in the games room. The bedrooms are filled with natural light and have huge ensuite bathrooms. The gardens are breathtaking and full of wildlife - we saw rabbits and red squirrels all over the place. The children absolutely loved the space and got so see newly born lambs and any number of secret dens that they found. Location wise, Farran is well-placed for sight-seeing and getting to all the main attractions County Cork has to offer. Last but by no means least, Patricia and John were wonderful hosts and very attentive to our needs. In short, Farran House was a huge part of an idyllic family holiday. I would recommend very strongly to any family looking to have a wonderful holiday in Ireland.

A very elegant place

I stayed at Farran House for a week with my extended family, there were 16 of us in total, ranging in age from 6-84. The house is comfortable, clean and well equipped. The owners are helpful and friendly and the location is excellent. It is everything you require from a self catering rental. The thing that sets it apart is the sheer elegance of the place. You can't really see this from the website. Everywhere you look, the colours, the layout, the paintings, the flowers. Everything is chosen with care and the overall effect is stunning. You have a beautiful house Patricia and thank you for sharing it with my family. JC

Majestic

This was the second time that I stayed at Farran House. This time I came with a group old friends to celebrate some good news. We spent time walking and talking and just enjoying the space and tranquillity of this majestic old house, and in the evening we cooked together in the big kitchen, we all had a thoroughly enjoyable few days. It was good to see Patricia and John as energetic and enthusiastic as ever. We will be back.

Something very special

I had the most memorable and fantastic weekend celebrating my 70th birthday with my family from Australia, England and Kilkenny. We enjoyed every moment in the beautifully restored Farran House. We roamed the gardens, enjoyed the views and the whole experience. Patricia and John have created something very special at Farran House and we were delighted to have the opportunity to spend time here
