Stable Cottage, Freshford just 10mins by train and 15mins by car from Bath
Stable cottage is a stone built house created from a stable block dating from the 1840’s. A three bedroom, two bathroom property (one en suite) with an open plan kitchen and living room which is perfect for socialising with family and friends. The house has its own front door that opens on to the courtyard area. The Stables can accommodate 6 people. It is located in the beautiful Georgian village of Freshford which lies at the junction of the Frome and Avon valleys in the southern Cotswolds. Just 5 miles from Bath and 2 miles from the historic town of Bradford on Avon. Freshford has a very good pub (The Inn at Freshford) serving great food and local beer and ciders a few minutes walk from the cottage. .There is also a well stocked village community shop and café. There are some wonderful walks along the Avon and Frome rivers and the Kennet and Avon canal leading to riverside Inns and areas of local interest (Iford Manor). All just 15 minutes from Bath by car but the secret of this location is the 9 minute train journey to Bath from the village station, just a short stroll from the cottage. Services run every 30 mins at peak times and hourly thereafter.

Very comfortable and generously equipped _we were all impressed by the welcoming supplies. This is a real haven in a pretty village. Perfect base for so many types of break.
We had a great time staying at Freshford. It is a very quiet relaxing village, as is the cottage. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable. A train station within a few minutes' walk with good connections, meant we could easily visit Bristol, Bath and other places. (We travelled from Scotland by train to Freshford with only one change needed). There were pleasant walks along the river and canal to further villages and towns. The Inn at Freshford was good for a meal and a seat outside, as was the Cross Guns along the river at Avoncliff. We were very sad to leave and hope to go back some day.
We enjoyed a very relaxing break at The Stables in Freshford. The cottage, with three large double bedrooms and two bathrooms (one en suite), suited our family well. Downstairs is small comprising a kitchen and lounge with dining table, upstairs extends over the next cottage.
A well stocked community store selling essentials and fresh produce, much locally sourced, is a 10 minute walk. The veranda serves as a vibrant community hub where locals gather for coffee each morning.
Freshford offers fabulous walks in every direction - we walked to Bradford-on-Avon (1hr along the river and canal) for lunch one day and took in Ilford Manor Gardens another. You can step out of the door and be in the centre of Bath within 15 minutes by train - the service was a little unreliable (infrequent with some cancellations and delays) but by tracking the timetable it was easy.
Our hosts were on hand should we have had any problems but our stay was trouble free. We wholeheartedly recommend this cottage as a perfect base to explore Bath, the surrounding countryside and the Mendips.
Great property with all the necessary facilities. Lovely large bedrooms and very comfortable bed. Being in a little village it was quiet and relaxing. Internet was excellent, which was very useful as the mobile signal was non-existent. Looking forward to staying again!
Lovely property so clean and plenty of space bedrooms and two bathrooms perfect for our group of 5. Train perfect 2 mins away, great for getting into Bath.
Fantastic property, so comfortable and everything you could need. Lovely hosts, breakfast supplies on arrival was a lovely touch and all the information we needed for a fabulous weekend. Thank you, we will definitely be recommending to everyone and hopefully will get to come back
We had a lovely weekend - the cottage was spotless and fully equipped. The website pictures were very accurate . Lovely decor. Good sized double bedrooms. Location for bath was fantastic - really short walk to the station -10 mins from Bath. Loved the pub - so cozy with two big fire places and lovely food-just a short walk away too. Highly recommend. Will definitely return.
Really enjoyed staying in this lovely cottage. It was perfect for my family of 5. The bedrooms were all a good size and having two bathrooms was very helpful. The station was nearby and there was a well-equipped community store. The owners provided useful tips on things to do and where to find them. Thoroughly recommend this place and would stay again.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely village. Highly recommended. Amazing hosts.
A lovely warm welcome from Robin and Wendy, with all the essentials provided for breakfast on our first morning. Really nice touch and so thoughtful.
The cottage is tucked away in a beautiful village not far from Bath and Bradford on Avon, with the train station at the end of the lane. There are some lovely walks in the area along the river, canal to Bradford on Avon, which is a charming little Saxon town with lots of things to see. Bath is a short drive or even better, a short train journey from the local station, which is a two minute walk down a lovely country lane.
The village has a quaint pub which serves good food with lovely gardens and a great place to start or finish a walk. The whole area is very scenic with stunning views.
The cottage has absolutely everything you need, three lovely spacious double bedrooms, The decor, facilities and cleanliness are of a very high standard and we couldn't fault anything at all. We felt very at home in the cottage. It was so comfortable and cosy.
We loved listening to the chimes of the church bells from the village church and found this very relaxing and peaceful, particularly early evening as the sun was setting.
Robin and Wendy really have thought of everything to make the cottage a homely comfortable place to stay, from beautiful bedding to top top quality toiletries in the bathroom and en suite.
We would highly recommend this cottage and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Thank you Robin and Wendy for making our stay so enjoyable.

Awesome hospitality, wonderful location, nice!
The cottage was a lovely place to call home for our 8 days.
With the unprecedented snow and ice which occurred, we we delayed in arrival, which the hosts gratefully let us extend for the difference we missed due to the snow.
The hosts also gave us updated information regarding the local weather and road access..
* they also organised some breakfast essentials and found two high chairs for our twin boys to use!
The cottage was perfect for our stay, enough room for three adults and three children (three large bedrooms, two bathrooms). Perfect position near the railway station (Bath/Bristol rail line) and also a short stroll to the Freshford Inn (country Pub)
Lots of nearby walks and lots of wonderful character.
Thank you Robin and Wendy, it was great!

Great location
Very happy with the cottage overall, however, whilst upstairs was ideal we found downstairs lounge area very dark and cramped. Unsure how 6 people could sit comfortably. Nice extra touches like shower gell etc.Shame there is nowhere to sit outside. May have been noisy if the cottage attached was occupied.
Lovely village and ideal for touring the area.
Fantastic place and location. We did not rent a car. Between walking, bus service in the village, and the train station a two minute walk away, we had many varied experiences in Bath and the area. Unit was very comfortable and the heating worked well. The kitchen is well equipped with quality items, the washer and dryer are a plus, including detergent! Hosts left us breakfast supplies which was really appreciated. Plus the tea bags and filter coffee. There is a small grocery shop/cafe in the village which is well stocked. The Inn at Freshford serves excellent food and is very English and cozy. We highly recommend this property. Thank you Robin and Wendy
We used this as a home base for our stay in the area. We enjoyed the property. The washer and dryer were surprisingly good - usually the dryers we have used in the UK don't really do the job, but this one worked very well. We were greeted with a wonderful surprise of fresh bread, butter, bacon, eggs, milk, and coffee supplies--all of which were very appreciated! Rooms were nice and as presented. Enjoyed our stay!
**DO** take the advice of printing out directions before you leave, as reception is spotty in the area on the way there, and you may have trouble with your phone GPS apps otherwise!
The Wi-Fi once you arrive is great though.
It was my second visit to this property and area. If I could, I would stay a month. Spectacular location. Property is pristine, and the welcome breakfast was a nice bonus. The train station is literally a three minute walk—so convenient and easy. The walks in the area are beautiful and we couldn’t do all of them, but maybe next time! Definitely returning. Highly recommend this property. Thanks for a great vacation!
Location 5 stars. Gorgeous village. Delicious dinner at local pub. So nice being in country but only short walk to station and short, scenic train trip to Bath. Comfortable stay with essentials provided including breakfast.
House very cold on arrival as heating was off but warmed up by bedtime. (Recommend asking to have heating turned on prior to arrival).
We loved the area! Wanted to be close to Bath but in a quiet area. We enjoyed the local shop/ cafe as well as the pubs within walking distance. We didn’t have a car so being close to the train was a big plus! We walked to Bradford on Avon as well as The Cross Guns in Avoncliff. We were sad to leave 😊
The property was amazing. It was very clean, very convenient, and very comfortable. The bedrooms were spacious, the plumbing worked very well. A three-minute walk to the train station and absolutely beautiful surroundings. Laundry was a real plus! Hosts were on top of things 100%. Communication was quick, questions answered completely. We will be coming back in April because we just didn't have time to enjoy everything completely. The local pub had excellent food and was a five-minute walk. The local market carries everything you need for meals, should you want to cook. I can't recommend this place highly enough--it was fantastic. The parking was a little tight, but you don't really need a car with the train station so close (coming from the U.S., we relied on trains, although most people in the neighboring cottages did have cars--they had no issues, but they are accustomed to the narrow roads, etc., and we weren't). A truly wonderful experience, and one I will repeat.
Situated in the pretty village of Freshford only a short distance from Bath, Stable Cottage was a wonderful base to explore the region. Clean, comfortable, and well-appointed with a lovely breakfast hamper on arrival. The kitchen is well equipped and the Freshford Inn is only a short walk away.
We loved our stay in Freshford. It’s a lovely village and the home we stayed in was perfect for us. The hosts kindly left us breakfast provisions for our first morning there - such a warm welcome. Special touches like that make all the difference! Would highly recommend this charming location!
