We converted our stables in2017 and it has been finished and equipped to a high standard offering great accommodation to golfers, families and anyone seeking a quiet country retreat. There is access to the courtyard garden with its Mediterranean feel where there is a hot tub exclusively for the use of guests at the Stables Cottage. We also have 15 acres of fields and woodland that guests can walk through or picnic in. St Andrews is a 10 minute drive away and Cupar railway station giving direct trains to Edinburgh (1hour), Dundee and Aberdeen is 5 minutes drive away. The new V and A opened in Dundee on 15 September 2018. St Andrews of course offers great golf, beautiful beaches and wonderful restaurants as well as the historic university. If you were fans of The Crown or Outlander you will have access to the Scotland they portray Within an hour’s drive. There are 3 bedrooms 2 of which are ensuite one with a roll top bath, the other with a shower room and there is a third shower room with disabled access. The bedrooms all have super king beds which can be split into singles if required. The beds have luxury mattress toppers with White Company bed linen. There are also White Company towels and bathrobes. There are beach towels for hot tub use. The main living area is open plan with a well equipped kitchen, dining table and sitting room with smart television with free view box. There is internet access. There is access to an enclosed archway where guests can enjoy drinks or coffee with a view of the courtyard garden. Most of our guests comment on the cottage being so much more than they expected and how they enjoy the peaceful setting. It is also popular because it is well situated not only for St Andrews golf courses but also Carnoustie and Gleneagles. It can be rented along with the Hayshed Cottage by larger groups.

We stayed 4 nights , the accommodation was excellent and just as described. The hot tub was enjoyed by the children, even in the inclement weather! Communication before and during our stay with Sue, the host was also excellent, and we were very appreciative of the board games she loaned for us to play with the children! Thank you for a wonderful stay!!!
We had the most wonderful time when staying at this property! Facilities were fantastic and host was so accommodating. Will definitely be returning! Thanks for everything, Sue!

Wonderful !
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage and had a lovely welcome from the owners. We had everything we could have wished for in a cosy relaxed atmosphere. The cottage was very clean and beautifully furnished and the enclosed garden was very pretty. We did not try the hot tub but it looked very inviting. We would definitely stay again sometime.
This property is a wonderful blend of historic feel plus brand new accommodations. But best of all is the wonderful care of proprietors Susan and Douggie who live on site and were extremely helpful with activity suggestions. As a newer rental, not as fully stickef and equipped as others, but the lovely couple and fabulous linens including fluffy robes made up for any deficiency. .
This cottage is lovely-inside and out! It is neat, tidy , and very comfortable. Cupar is a great little community that has everything you need. The owners are great and responsive to whatever you need.
Sue was fantastic from start to finish. Really appreciated her being so available to help with things.
The place has everything you need. The hot tub was fun, the sun even came out as we sat in it. The courtyard is a sun trap which helped on a windy day.
We had a four year old with us and she loved the swings and soccer goal.
Beds are very comfortable and everything was very clean. Would stay here again!
I stayed here with a group of close friends over the weekend and our time at the property was perfect. The house was spotless on arrival and was fully stocked with all the essentials we needed like soaps, towels etc. Susan and her husband both went above and beyond to cater to our every need and it was more than appreciated. I could not recommend this place enough. *****
Initially we had difficulty finding the address. Need better communication on that.
Need better description of each room’s bathroom. We expected 3 en suite bedrooms. That was a disappointment.
The property is well-situated and close to nearby golf courses and beaches. We would definitely return, in large part due to the family friendly and well-considered amenities provided to guests in the property and on the grounds.
Renting the property was very easy and communication with the owner Sue was really easy and received responses very quickly. The property was amazing, great accommodation, facilities and outdoor space. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The outdoor Courtyard has plenty of room and seating. Sue was a joy to meet and was so friendly and welcoming. Lovely place and will definitely stay again.
This is a lovely cosy property and ideal for 6 adults. We had everything we needed and we were all very comfortable. The beds were amazing with lovely bed linen and good quality pillows.
The hot tub was amazing and very easy to use. Fluffy bathrobes and pool towels supplied.
Sue and Douglas were great hosts.
I would definitely recommend this property to friends and would happily stay again,
Our stay was very enjoyable. The property was extremely well decorated and comfortable. The hot tub was a real bonus, especially when the weather was not so good. We loved the courtyard setting with beautiful planting. Thanks to Sue for making us feel so welcome!
Balass was perfect for our relaxing get away. Lovely property, beautifully decorated and with all the essentials provided (as well as little extras). Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and dips in the HotTub. The location is fantastic, out in the countryside but close to Cupar and St Andrews for a wander. We received a warm welcome from our host.
Beautiful Cottage, with hot tub, clean, felt very comfortable there
Beautiful cottage, tasteful decor, comfortable furnishings, well-equipped kitchen, fab hot tub, owner on hand if required, couldn't ask for any more really
Superb property, everything of an extremely high quality. Beds very comfortable made up with gorgeous White Company linen. Added luxury of fluffy white bathrobes and towels specifically for hot tub use. Outside area lovely including table and chairs, hot tub and fire pit. All in all a fantastic stay and would have no hesitation in recommending this property.
My family had a great weekend at the country house! The kids loved the hot tub!
Nice and relaxing within lovely settings!
Would highly recommend!
Thank you again for a lovely stay 😊
This property is absolutely brilliant. The inside is laid out really well, the large kitchen/diner was great for spending time as a family. The bedrooms are a great size and the beds are the comfiest ever. The whole place was clean and tidy and felt like it is really well taken care of. The outside of the property is really pretty, and there is plenty of space for everyone. The hot tub is an excellent feature and once your finished in there, coming out and sitting next to the patio heater and fire pit is the ideal way to relax. Sue and family (dogs included) were great hosts; very attentive but at the same time left you to get on with it. We absolutely could not fault this place, we came home today and are already thinking about booking up again for December. Loved it!!
We had the most wonderful weekend at The Stables Cottage in Cupar. The setting is just perfect where our boys enjoyed walks through the forest, football on the garden green, sitting on the tree swing watching the sunset, collecting conkers and picking berries! The Mediterranean garden was very special; full of beautiful potted plants and lovely areas to sit during the day and toast marshmallows by the fire pit in the evening. The hot tub was fabulous and we enjoyed it day and night! The cottage itself was beautifully furnished. It was warm and cosy and we particularly loved the white company bed linen and bath robes. We had a lovely family getaway enjoying home comforts with a touch of class! Thank you to Sue and Dougie for a wonderful stay. We will most definitely return one day xxx

About the host
Hosted by Susan Williams
We are both Scottish from Aberdeen and Troon. We are both retired solicitors. We have lived at Balass since 1986 when we were married. we brought up our two sons here. We enjoy all types of sport but we have a real interest in our garden. We started the garden in the courtyard about 10 years ago. It has a Mediterranean feel and the cottage faces onto the courtyard.
Why they chose this property
This is the ideal location if you are a golfer as it is not only within easy reach of the many St Andrews couurses but also within reach of Carnoustie and Gleneagles. Our own house is adjacent to the cottage. we developed the stables and hayshed when we stopped keeping horses. It was completed in 2017. The buildings are B listed so the development compliments the original Georgian style. The original part of the house was built in 1813.
What makes this property unique
Luxury finish, access to wonderful garden, hot tub available to guests. We fell in love with a run down farm house 30 odd years ago and have spent years improving it and now developed something that others can share.
