Cute and cosy cottage

What a fairy tale place to stay , if I could buy it I would. Its an original welsh cottage with very up to date appliances , quirky and comfortable with a woodland walk alongside that takes you to some beautiful scenery and ponds on the Stackpole estate through wonderful woodland. Tucked away in a valley but within easy reach if places like Barafundle Bay, Stackpole Quay with its amazing cafe and Freshwater East which has a great bar/bistro called Jack's( under new management that offers great food . Dog friendly too. Can't wait to go back

Idyllic

Great location for a quiet holiday when you want to walk straight from the doorway into woods and wander down to the sea and while away the days. Local freshwater ponds fabulous for walking around. Take the dog they’ll love it. Stackpole Inn 15 minutes walking is fantastic for food and service. Remember to book though.

Super cottage, very well equipped, superb location

We’ve had many cottage holidays over the years, but Wood Cottage was the cosiest and best equipped we’ve ever visited. The location was perfect – nice and quiet, but within an easy drive of all the main attractions and beauty spots of Pembrokeshire. We were warm and contented, and definitely hope to return in the future!

Charming, beautifully located and well equipped

From the moment you approach this cottage from a little unmade lane you just know it will be special. Set in a wooded clearing and right next to an ancient Norman church it is a perfect base in which to explore this part of Pembrokeshire. There are walks to the coast and into the Stackpole estate which can start from the doorstep of this charming 'Dolly Parton' pink cottage. Wood Cottage is well equipped for a self catering break or there is the option of the local pub (The Stackpole Inn) a short walk from the property, through the wood or road which has a rather extensive menu, I could recommend the fish dishes. Take a torch though, as the nights are really dark, but so refreshing to not have the light pollution. In summary, we where very happy with our stay at Wood Cottage. A perfect venue for a relaxing break with history and charm.

Peace, perfect peace!

This is a fabulous place to stay if you want seclusion and peace. Very comfortable and well equipped cottage; immaculately clean and cosy. We really enjoyed walking through the Stackpole woodland, as did our border collie who couldn't quite believe her luck. The walk to fabulous Barafundle from the cottage was just a bit too long for us but easily reached by car. A couple of minor household maintenance issues were speedily dealt with by Peter and they didn't negatively impact upon our stay. In all, a glorious New Year's break.

A wonderful week at Wood Cottage

Our family and two dogs had a lovely time in this snug , comfortable, well equipped and very clean cottage. Thanks to Athena for the thoughtful welcome pack and flowers. We enjoyed walks through the surrounding woods to Stackpole Court, Stackpole Quay and Barafundle. We also visited nearby Carew and Tenby. It was lovely to be in Pembrokeshire without all the crowds and to see the snowdrops and primroses in bloom around the cottage and in the woods. We were happy to help the National Trust with their litter pick on Freshwater West, sadly finding lots of small plastic items and bits of fishing nets in amongst the seaweed. We also went to a very interesting talk at the Power House in Pembroke about buildings in Pembrokeshire, as well as enjoying the hospitality of the Stackpole Inn and the Cresselly Arms. We'll be back!

Wonderful Christmas here. Cosy and warm in beautiful surroundings. Fabulous walks from the doorstep and beautiful beaches just round the corner. Really well equipped, Christmas dinner for 5 was no problem in the lovely kitchen. Can’t recommend it highly enough and neither can our kids and dog! We all had an absolute ball.

Wonderful cottage, cozy and homely

We arrived in the cold and dark but Athena had left the cottage in a welcoming manner, being lit by lamps and with the heating on. Very well equipped and comfortably furnished. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathrooms are great. We stayed for 5 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Lots of lovely walks from the doorstep. Can't wait to revisit Wood Cottage.

Unique

We had a most relaxing stay at Wood Cottage. On arrival we were greeted by a welcome tray of cut flowers, milk and welsh cakes with a lovely note from the caretaker with her details should we need her help. It felt as if we had come somewhere very special. The cottage is beautifully presented, well equipped and contains everything you could need or wish for and more, including a washing machine, dishwasher and a tumble dryer. Immaculately clean, warm and comfortable in a peaceful location in its own land by a stream. There are lovely walks through the woods right by the property and the area is full to the brim of interesting places to visit. The beaches are stunning and we managed to swim in the sea near Manorbier in September! Carew Castle and Mill are worth a visit too along with the church opposite Wood Cottage. Fresh veg are available at Stackpole Walled gardens and we sampled great soup in the cafe there. The owner is a conscientious host and telephoned us to make sure that all was well and as it should be - a considerate and appreciated touch. Although there is no mobile telephone signal the excellent wifi made up for it. As another reviewer has noted it is, however, reassuring to know that there is a landline at the property should it be needed. The cherry on the cake would have been to see otters in the garden but even knowing they are in the area and may be close by is magical in itself. We sincerely hope to return to this beautiful property one day and would not hesitate to recommend it. A unique place and experience.

A wonderful place to stay

We arrived at the gates of Wood Cottage on a lovely warm sunny day..with a WOW. Fantastic and everything we hoped it would be. Lovely walks right from the doorstep, with beaches not too far away. The cottage was very homely and welcoming, with the sound of the stream running by so peaceful. The sunshine settled on different areas of the garden which was nice, with the barbeque area perfect for late afternoon. Would certainly recommend it for relaxation, or a walking holiday. Our dog Dexter loved it too!

We had a brilliant week in wood cottage. The cottage was really week equipped. We (dogs included) loved the garden and the walks right out the door. The outdoor seating and summer house were great, and the stackpole inn nearby serves lovely food. All in all can't recommend enough.

Beautiful cottage in fantastic, secluded location.

Wood cottage is a lovely, well maintained cottage in beautiful surroundings, perfect for a peaceful, away-from-it all break. It has a great, well equipped garden with nice stream, patio, summer house, garden furniture and barbecue, and we enjoyed the company of the resident bats in the evening. There are excellent walks from the cottage to the Lily ponds, lovely beaches, and The Stackpole Inn and Boat House cafe, both of which were fabulous. We recieved curtesy calls from both the cleaner and the owner to check there were no problems, which there certainly weren't and we would highly recommend this cottage to our friends and family. We shall certainly be hoping to return again soon. Loved it!

Expectations exceeded!

We had a question pre booking so emailed the owner. He phoned us almost immediately & answered our query. We had visited the Wood Cottage website on a number of occasions before our holiday, it is so comprehensive & has lots of information & photographs. We were so pleasantly surprised with the cottage on arrival, we felt we knew the place already, everything as seen on the website but more, so fresh & clean, with a welcome tray milk, cake, cut flowers. So homely & comfortable, very well equipped for self catering (including BBQ) We so appreciated the peace & quiet around the cottage, the only sounds being the birdsong & the tinkling of the stream. ( To sit outside at dusk & experience the bat display is a must) We loved Wood cottage & the immediate area The welcoming Stackpole inn was a real favourite! Burtie the dog absolutely loved the garden, paddling in the stream, its extension to the woods & of course all the walks & beautiful & dog friendly beaches. (He finally learnt to swim!) There are walks short & long, woods, coastal path, Lily ponds, lots of National Trust properties, & so many other areas to visit by car should you wish. We think Pembrokeshire is 'the new Cornwall' (but don't tell everybody!) Plenty of car parks, public loos & no traffic jams! We hope to return to wood cottage in the future, have already made recommendations to friends & will continue to do so!

A Gem

If want quiet and seclusion this property is perfect. We had a short break at not the best time of year to get the most out of the surroundings. Very comfortable and clean and I must say one of the best equipped properties we have stayed in. At the time the property was not prepared for a power cut but I understand that has now been addressed. Very attentive owner and caretaker. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

Character cottage in verdant wooded valley

This is a pretty pink cottage set in lush grounds down a quiet lane opposite a church. The grounds are well maintained with fruit trees and gunnera set by a bubbling brook. The upstairs twin bedroom is the most spacious and nicest bedroom, with windows on both sides. The upstairs double room was fine, while the downstairs twin was chillier and duller, but our 12-year-old son seemed happy enough in it. Living room, kitchen and large entrance hall with plenty of space for changing boots and coats all excellent. The downstairs shower delivered consistent pressure and heat. The landline phone with honesty box was very useful as there is zero mobile reception. There seemed to be several wifi hubs running, but only one of them worked with the password given. Extra extension cables were usefully on hand so we could easily charge up the various mobiles, tablets and laptop! As some other commenters have noted, it is quite a shady spot because it is set in a wooded valley, but it does receive full sun through the middle of the day. The walk through the woodland was officially closed whilst we stayed, due to Forestry Works. However, we walked through it in the evenings, after the logging activities were over, and it is indeed a lovely walk through to the Bosherton lily ponds. The area is superb, with some of Britain's finest beaches nearby: Broad Haven, Barafundle, Marloes are absolutely brilliant, and did not feel too crowded even at the height of the summer season. We had a nice, relaxing week in a characterful cottage in a lovely part of the country.

Why they chose this property

This is a romantic traditional stone built (1862) cottage, bursting with character, sited a mere km or so from the famous Pembrokeshire National Coast Park footpath and two amazing world class, National Trust owned beaches.

The environment is a haven for anyone with an interest in geography, geology, history, conservation, wild life (particularly ornithology), photography, fauna and magnificent seascapes.

It is also perfectly located for outdoor enthusiasts and particularly those who enjoy any of the following activites: walking, coastal trail runs, cycling, swimming, surfing, sailing, water ski, fishing and enjoying fine, remote and relaxing beaches away from the madding crowd.

A National Nature Reserve of special international importance, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Norman churches and medieval castles are either a short walk or road journey from the property.

The property is popular with members and families of The National Trust and the British based Women's Institute.

It sits peacefully in a secluded woodland glade festooned with wild life and fauna within the National Trust owned Stackpole Estate.

The quality of fixture and fittings, kitchen equipment and in-home entertainment, coupled with the presentation of the cottage is modelled to at least the high standards found in National Trust Holiday Cottages throughout the UK.

What makes this property unique

The stream side property offers total privacy and is set at the end of a tree lined track in a woodland glade. Unlike so many holiday rentals in the area this is not a communal unit- there are no neighbours, owners or holiday makers!

The managed gardens comprise of nearly one acre and the surrounding woodland views encompass a further five acres.

A babbling stream runs alongside one side of the garden and is a fond and lasting memory for many guests. Pooh sticks are a favourite game for the children. The adjacent woods provide a playground of exploration and mountain bike fun for all the family.

This property is toasty warm in winter and cool in summer with a variety of sun terraces and outdoor furniture. It is maintianed to a high standard and is continually improved year on year.

There are gentle grade short walks to Britain's smallest harbour at Stackpole Quay, (which is also home to the mouth watering Boathouse Café), the famous Lily Ponds at Bosherston, the nation's favourite beach at Barafundle Bay and historic Pembroke Town (with its medieval castle being the birth place of King Henry VII) is a short car journey away.
