About this property

SPACIOUS FAMILY FRIENDLY TRADITIONAL COTTAGE - AMAZING SEA VIEWS - SLEEPS 4 +2

The traditional stone built croft cottage has 2 public rooms - lounge with cosy wood burning stove (initial supply of logs and coal supplied) Wi-Fi enabled satellite, Smart TV/DVD player, i-pod docking station, dining room seating 6 people also with satellite TV, library of books, games, puzzles, DVD's, videos, maps, details of the many local forestry/coastal walks. Both public rooms and bedrooms with sea views. All electricity, heating, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels included in tariff. Dog friendly with large enclosed garden , panoramic views across Loch Bay and onwards to Outer Islands - amazing sunsets.

Free internet and Broadband connection. There is a payphone in the cottage which accepts incoming calls but whilst the mobile connection is poor inside the cottage, mobile signal can be found in the garden.

There are two large comfortable bedrooms - one double bedroom (King size bed) and one twin - both having extra fold-down single beds if required. Bed linen and towels are all supplied. Extra blankets supplied for the chillier evenings. Again both bedrooms with sea views.

Fully equipped kitchen with large fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, toasty maker, coffee machine, electric kettle etc.

Waternish is centre of the most prominent peninsulas to project north west into the Minch. It is an extremely pretty area and very green. There are a series of scattered settlements here including Bay, Lusta, Stein, Hallin, Halistra and Trumpan. There are several places worth a visit whether it be historic or just local attractions. These include 'Fairy Bridge' dating from the early 1800's and apparently named because it was believed to be the haunt of fairies and where the then Chief MacLeod was given the famous 'FairyFlag' by his fairy wife (before she left him returning to her own people) to be waved only three times if the MacLeod Clan were in danger. The flag has been waved on two occasions and is now kept in Dunvegan Castle. Dunvegan Castle (about 15 minute drive) is the ancestral home of the chieftains of the Clan MacLeod. The castle can trace its history back to around 1200AD.

Also to be found in the Dunvegan area the beautiful Coral Beach - one of the best beaches in Skye with great views of the highest sea cliffs in Skye, Dunvegan Head.

The historic Trumpan church in Waternish was the scene of a bloody massacre of the MacLeod clan by the MacDonalds in the middle of the 16th century. There is an excellent picnic area here where you can enjoy superb views. Nearby you will find the path leading to the Waternish lighthouse for those of you who enjoy walking.

PLEASE NOTE MINIMUM HIRE IS FOR 4 NIGHTS & MUST BE TAKEN WITHIN SAME WEEK I.E. SAT - SAT

Amazing location but property was disappointing.

Excellent bedding and sufficient heating. Lovely towels and reasonable facilities. The property itself is tired and it needed a good clean when we arrived. I had to hoover the house and clean the floors. The internal doors don't close properly and some are difficult to open. It needs a makeover to compete with other holiday properties.

Gorgeous Bayside Retreat

We had an amazing stay at this charming little Loch side cottage. The views from the doors and windows out to the loch opening are stunning and the sun sets out over the islands and water making every clear night magical. The interior is simple but has all that you need, is comfortable and warm. Kitchen is well equipped for simple meals and there is ample room otherwise. Outside is a simple yard with grass, fully enclosed with fences and gate at the front entrance. It is within 20-30mins of most of the highlights of Skye. Portree is closest coop (25mins), small grocer in dunvegan for the odd pieces (10min drive). Didn’t get to the Stein inn or lochbay restaurant. Can recommend just hooked on Portree for fresh seafood and the butcher on struan road for fresh meat. Mostly a cultural difference between here and Aus is dogs everywhere, and as it’s impossible to get hair fully out of rugs, couch throw blankets etc, it was obvious if you sat on the floor or have little ones who did. We needed a break from phones, internet, TV but for those who are accustomed/seeking smart TVs and streaming, this wasn’t an option. However, There was a sky connection. We opted for the many puzzles that were available. We loved our stay here and would definitely book again

Superb location, clean etc but property quite dated and run down. It’s difficult to imagine how 6 people could stay there. Nice pub within walking distance.

amazing location, awesome views and pub nearby

We were lucky enough to be visited by golden eagles at the cottage. The views are to die for. You have everything you need in the cottage including internet. The washing machine and separate dryer were a luxury and the brand new fridge freezer was a treat that dispensed cold water for drinking. Marion is a gem who took immediate care of any problems reported to her. A fantastic week. Thank you Marion.

Beautiful view

Comfortable cottage, perfect for our family of 4, with a comfortable king size bed in the master bedroom & decent twin beds in the 2nd bedroom. It had everything we needed for cooking, dining & cosying up for the evening. The view over the loch is breathtaking, and there are lovely walks nearby. Also nearby is The Yurt at Skye Skyns, which is a fabulous place to get coffee & cake, or a bowl of delicious soup. The owner is very friendly, and called us the say after we arrived to check if we had settled in ok & ask if we needed anything. We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend this property.

Fantastic location and owner very helpful

We really enjoyed our stay, the house was in such a lovely spot and beds were extremely comfortable. The only thing stopping me giving a 5 star rating was that some of the drawers in kitchen and twin bedroom were a bit wobbly and on their last legs so we were a little afraid to use them incase we broke them, 2 dvd players but neither seemed to work and a bit of a breeze upstairs through the walls in the twin room when the wind blew. The owner was lovely and offered lots of advice of what to see and do including where the best kids park was locally. Overall a great trip and decent place to stay just a few wee easy fix niggles that didnt spoil the trip, just took it slightly off a full five stars.

Most stunning view

This was the second time we stayed at Eilean Isay cottage and both times we loved it. With two spacious and comfortable bedrooms, two seating areas, a spacious bathroom and a garden, the house is perfect for a family. From all rooms you are overlooking the bay and you will experience amazing views and stunning sunsets. There is also a fantastic pub with a beergarden just down at the shore - the best treat at the end of the day. Eilean Isay cottage is in perfect distance to several hikes like Neist Point, Coral Beach, Fairy Glen, Fairy Pools, Old Man of Storr and several more. We are looking forward to our next stay!

Well appointed, comfortable and clean cottage with incredible views

Marion's property is in a stunning location, overlooking the loch and stunning view of Isay and North Uist. The sunsets are spectacular. It's in a lovely part of Skye within easy reach of Dunvegan and Portee as well as many of the islands most beautiful attractions - and a short walk from the Stein Inn, Michelin starred Loch Bay restaurant and the fantastic Tea and Cake Yurt at Skye Skins. The cottage is comfy and we found it spotlessly clean - and the kitchen is pretty well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. We had a wonderful time and will be back!

Lovely spot - great views - lovely garden - but....

The house is in a lovely spot with fabulous views and the garden is really lovely, but the house (for the price) is a let down. It is cluttered with all kinds of things - including things that are broken. Some of the lights didn't work e.g. in the bathroom. There are enough pans to sink a ship - problem is you can't find anything through the mess in the drawer. And you have to be very careful opening that drawer as the front is falling off. There is an awful smell that comes from the headboard in the bedroom and the glasses stored in the sideboard smelt disgusting. There was also a very odd smell when you boil the kettle - a combination of stale curry and sweaty feet. 2 cockroaches also met their end while we were there. And the fly catchers on the windows were not nice either with their dead flies already there when we arrived. And behind the sofa - not sure when that last saw a hoover. It is a mish mash of stuff that is just a mess. Worse though is the cable from one of the lights in the living room to the plug - it has bare wires! Very dangerous! The beds were comfortable and the sofa (between all the cushions) was comfortable. We also wrote a question to the owner during our stay but received no response. It is a shame - the house could be really lovely but it needs a real deep clean and sort out.

Our Waternish experience

The cottage was all that we could have asked for and we had a fantastic week exploring Skye from our Waternish base. Downstairs had two lovely reception rooms, one of which was also used as a dining area and led to a rear kitchen that was very well equipped. The large family bathroom was also downstairs and had very good bath/shower facilities for easing the aches and pains of the day from the fantastic walks. Upstairs there were two large bedrooms with fabulous views, weather permitting, across the Loch. The beds were very comfortable, there was plenty of storage space and room for further cots etc. Outside was a large gravelled parking area with an outside seating area which we used to sit and enjoy the fabulous views with a cold glass of something nice. In front of that was a grassed garden area where we often saw rabbits roaming around. There were lots of books, games and local information/brochures provided to help entertain you and guide you to the Island's many attractions. We were also given good advice by the owner where to go and what to do, together with a few favourite pubs/restaurants. The Stein Inn was about a mile down the hill and had a lovely beer garden by the Lochside. Very pleasant after a hard day's yomping but put your midge cream on! It also does good pub food and has a separate restaurant. There is also a Yurt just up the road doubling as a café that served hot drinks and lovely cakes. We also tried the Diver's Eye boat trip from the jetty by the pub and spent a tranquil couple of hours eagle, red deer, whale and seal spotting, followed by a spot of fishing. Gordy was an entertaining local guide and fisherman. Our overall experience of Skye was enhanced by having a lovely cottage as a base and the very pleasant but quiet surroundings. We will be back.

My parents were both born in Skye - my mother in Waternish and my father in the South of Skye in a now deserted village called Kilbride near Torrin. My husband was born in a cottage in Camus Lusta in Waternish. All fluent gaelic speakers.

Why they chose this property

Eilean Isay has been in the family since 1936 & built by local tradesmen. Could not anticipate not being able to spend time in the lovely cottage - my spiritual home! After the fast pace of city dwelling, there is nothing more relaxing than to sit outside the cottage and take in the amazing surrounding scenery and just chill out.

Perfect getaway on Skye

This is a brilliant place to experience the Isle of Skye - sufficiently remote, with a cosy inn and an excellent restaurant within walking distance. Spectacular views, easy driving access to amenities like shops, and very well fitted. A marvellous place!

What makes this property unique

The views from Eilean Isay are truly spectacular and to watch the sun set across Loch bay is truly amazing - one couldn't help but fall in love with the peace and tranquility of this location. Even on the darkest of nights, this has got to be one of the best places on the planet to stargaze or to see the distant lights of passing ships sailing across the Minch.
