The Resort: The Savoie Region of France is a mecca for skiers of all abilities from across Europe. Being the highest resort in Europe the one thing that Tignes is guaranteed is good snow. The season starts earlier and finishes later than most other resorts. According to 'The good Ski & Snowboarding Guide 2005' Tignes is one of only two ski areas in France listed as 'Snow-sure resorts'. Tignes skiing is a combination of the pistes of Tignes and Val D'Isere which combine to make up the L’Espace Killy. There are 300km of pistes: 20 green runs, 60 blues, 35 reds and 16 blacks, plus 44 km of cross country skiing, 2 terrain parks, 2 glaciers and 90 ski lifts including 2 high speed underground trains (funicular railways).

It offers the largest area of on piste skiing in Europe as well as some of the most extensive off piste skiing making Tignes one of Europe's premier resorts. The majority of runs are wide and therefore suitable for all levels of skiers or boarder with 5 free lifts for beginners.

How to get there: Tignes can be accessed easily throughout the year via various forms of transport. The alps are primarily served by five airports; Lyon, Grenoble, Geneva Chambéry and Turin all of which have regular flights from the UK and Ireland. Carriers to these destinations include, Easyjet, Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Flybe, bmibaby, Thompson Fly and British Airways.

Bourg St-Maurice train station is the nearest station to Tignes. This is served at all times of the year by French mainline services. Eurostar also runs a service known as the 'Snow Train' at weekends throughout the winter season that is direct from London.

Road access to the Tarentaise region is remarkably good thanks to the 1992 Albertville Olympic games, especially from Chambéry and Lyon. Transfers from these Airports can be made entirely on motorways as far as Moûtiers (36 miles from Tignes) and then on roads that have been widened to accommodate the hundreds of buses that use them throughout the year.

Travel Tip: We suggest that given the transfer time from the airport to the resort you book an early flight when arriving and a late flight when departing. For convenience we recommend that you hire a car.

Easter break family of 4

The property is conveniently located near the car park and the val claret centre ski slopes and we could almost ski to door in the afternoons. The apartment is spacious and very well equipped if you want to cook. There are panoramic views of the mountains and le lac. We were very warm during our stay.We have teenage children and the top bunk bed was ok but would caution against that this is not suitable for younger children as was flagged by the owners to us.The apartment would benefit from a guard rail on the steps to the balcony for additional safety. The hosts were very accommodating and provided key resort information and checked in with us during our stay how things were going. Would recommend this accommodation to others.

Great cosy apartment in Val Claret

Well equipped, clean and warm apartment in Val Claret. It’s almost ski-in (you can ski to within 100 metres) but not ski-out (it’s a 5-minute walk to a lift). The kitchen has everything you need. The only drawback is the sliding doors that don’t close fully, including the door to the bathroom, meaning there’s limited privacy when you’re on the toilet!

Great location

Easy check in, great location, well equipped kitchen, good shower, ski locker. Bunks narrow and short and top bunk very high, so only really suitable for tweens. WiFi and TV didn’t work but we didn’t try to resolve this.

Great appartment

The appartment suited us really well and good location (short walk to lift/shops/restaurants). Communication from host was excellent and we had a great week. Parking very close by (Golf). Everything as we expected. Tignes is one of my favourite ski resorts in the French alps.

Great!

The apartment was great, check-in etc. went very smoothly, due to the proprietor's upfront efforts. Location is very good. All round great experience. I would recommend to others and friends and when back in Tignes this apartment would be our first choice. We were two adults and two children and stayed for two weeks. Thank you, Helen

Lovely apartment with beautiful views

We (me and my 2 adult sons) had a great week here in Tignes. The apartment is more spacious than most with a very well epuipped kitchen and nice light lounge with beautiful views of the lake and ski slopes from the windows. The owners are very responsive with information, the apartment was clean and even bed linen was provided which is rare for accommodation in Tignes. It is close to everything but quiet at night. We will be back. Loved it!

Highly Recommended - Stunning Accommodation in a Great Resort

We have no hesitation in recommending this property. We are a family of 5. Stunning views in this spacious property with wifi which is a huge plus. Had been to Tignes in winter and have to say the Summer in Tignes is equally great. We were so surprised there are so many things to do in this super resort. Very helpful owners who were very responsive and informative. We will be back........... ! Thank you again

Great property . close to the shops and ski lifts

Great property . close to the shops and ski lifts. Good kitchen and lounge. We booked for 3 people However the single bunk beds are very thin, too high and the bottom bunk is only stable for a lightweight infant. In our case my 21 year old found it impossible to sleep because of the Spring base under the mattress was too weak. this could be easily replaced with a solid wood base. We had to use the sofa as a bed for the other person.

Spacious ski chalet

The chalet is very spacious & was a perfect size for a family of four adults. It is located a few minutes walk from the supermarket & 5 mins from the ski lifts. The ski locker is a great feature, as is the key safe located outside the apartment. The owners, Lisa & David, were very helpful & quick to reply to messages & questions. During our visit there was a huge amount of snowfall & this meant the TV satellite signal didn't work so there was no TV. This however was not a fault of the chalet or the owners, more an occupational hazard of too much snow! The only disappointment was the lack of WiFi which we had been assured would be installed before our visit. However, it was possible to connect to the free Tignes network in the building next door. All in all this is a well appointed & spacious apartment & I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Apartment was lovely, clean & spacious.

On arrival we did have difficulty with the locks on the door been a bit sticky but once inside we found the apartment to be very nice. The only other difficulty we had was the balcony door was a bit sticky which was a bit precarious at the top of the steps which didn't have a rail or guard. Location is great, the apartment is spacious, clean and attractively decorated.

Spacious and good living area

A group of 5 of us stayed here for a weeks skiing in March 2017. The owners sent us lots of useful information through to us prior to the trip including how to access the property, directions to get there, good restaurants to go to etc. which turned out to be one of the most well organised experiences I’ve had booking through this site. A great thing about this property was that there is a key safe on the door so no waiting round for someone to give you the keys. It also meant that we could leave the keys there so if some of our party went home early they could get in and there was no messing around with who has the key. As you walk in there is a big and spacious shower room first on your right with a good shower and towels supplied. The bedrooms were next along in the flat, one either side of the corridor. There was one with a mezzanine and double bed on top and quite a comfy double sofa bed underneath. On the other side of the corridor next to the shower room was the single bunk room. The beds are ok but they are sprung underneath the mattress and personally I would recommend these for small adults or children as there’s a wooden support bar underneath which you could feel through the mattress. Despite the small size of the room it was spacious enough and had lots of storage next to and underneath the beds. The living area was great. Really spacious with a high sloped ceiling and a big sofa which you could easily fit 6 on. There was a small balcony with views up the Espace Killy side of the resort. The kitchen was one of the best equipped I’ve been to for holiday rentals. It has a proper oven, and hob, slim line dishwasher (with more than the usual 2 dishwasher tablets that you usually get), lots of pans and crockery. The drop leaf table and folding chairs meant that you could just pack it all down easily to give you more living space. One thing to note is that there’s no wifi. The owners make this clear in the description and we could get 3G there but the connection wasn’t great. There are quite a few free wifi spots around Val Claret though. The apartment is very near to all the shops and restaurants and its only a short walk to the Tufs lift that gets you access to some excellent skiing. All in all it was a great apartment that really suited our needs and I would recommend it if you’re wanting to book somewhere with plenty of space and to self cater.

Great little appartment

Booked predominantly for a mountain biking holiday but got plenty done besides thanks to the owner, David, obtaining Tignes Sports cards which allow free access to canoes, kayaks, archery, shooting, swimming pool and gym. Summer lifts are also still free at Tignes as are the buses. Apartment ideally placed with very local parking. The apartment is in good order and is ideal for 4 to spread out a bit or 6 to be cosy. Great holiday.

Gorgeous and Spacious Apartment

Making use of the great value for money the apartment was advertising for the first week of the season, we grabbed the opportunity and a group of five of us stayed for a week. The booking process was very easy and Dave was so very helpful in taking us through and detailing the process from booking to arrival. We especially loved the fact that he took the time to call us before our trip to explain the apartment and other details over the phone. It made for a very comfortable and stress-free trip especially as, with his directions, the apartment was very easy to find! The apartment itself is nothing short of gorgeous and modern. As has previously been said in reviews, the photos do not do the space justice and we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of room it gave. Two of us were in the mezzanine bedroom, one in the bunkbed room and two on the fold out sofa in the sitting room and as a result, we each received our own room. We could’ve easily fitted another two people on fold out beds in the mezzanine and bunk bed rooms. In the mornings we folded up the double in the sitting room leaving us plenty social space to relax after skiing in front of the TV with plenty of channels. The apartment is cosy especially with the thick duvets and heats up fast drying out towels and any damp ski gear easily. The shower is pressurised and lovely after a day’s skiing and the bathroom well lit and spacious. The kitchen is also much more equipped than we’ve seen in other apartments with a coffee machine and plenty of utensils making dinners easy! Another great detail is a key locker secured on the front door. This meant that once the apartment was locked and the key left in this locker, it wasn't necessary to try and meet up with whoever had the key once we were out skiing if we wanted to return to the apartment early. Lovely and clean, with plenty of storage space (and we had a lot of gear!) and a ski locker downstairs that fit three snowboards and a set of skis, we were very happy with how our week turned out. We will definitely be coming back this year now that we’ve found this gem! Thanks again, Dave and Vikki!

Great Apartment

This is a great apartment with more space than you can see in the photos. There is a very well equipped kitchen with all the utensils you could possibly think of. We took our own 'chalet maid' which meant we made good use of the kitchen and even managed two roast dinners. We were even able to watch our own local news on the satelite TV! The free bus was very useful for going to the next village. The ski locker was big enough for 4 sets of skis. We were impressed with the apartment and all dealings with the owner was prompt and helpful. Our only downside was the amount of travelling we had to do as we decided to drive, next time we would definately fly! We did speak to Elaine when we were at Albertville and she said that we would take another hour and a half we we laughed at this as the mileage didn't seem that far , however she was right and a hour and a half was what it took. We would definately recommend this apartment. Thanks for having us!

Tignes Val Claret Christmas 2011.

Well equiped, spacious apartment in a great location. Very comfortable and more than enough space for the 5 of us. Quiet block which made it great for a good nights sleep. Wonderful views of one of the pistes and we would definately stay again, the week was too short and wanted to stay much longer!

Beautiful apartment, well-equipped and central

We stayed here in April 2011. We would highly recommend it. We booked this apartment on the basis of the reviews rather than the photographs. We were right to do so. The photographs make the lounge look narrow - which it is not. The whole apartment is much more spacious, light and airy than the photos do it credit. We have stayed in other french apartments, so knew what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised! Dave (one of the owners) could not have been more helpful with the booking process, also sending us information about the underground/overground car park (Parking Du Golf, directly opposite) and cheerfully answering all our queries. There is temporary parking outside the apartment to off-load. The reviews we read talked about the cleanliness and vast amount of kitchen equipment and we would agree. We have never seen so many utensils, cooking pots, glasses and crockery. So much so, that we had a hard time putting away all the food we bought for the week in Bourg! There was also ample bedding, pillows and towels and a bin in the bathroom (so I guess reviewer comments from Feb 2011 were taken on board!) Two things worth noting: (1) there is no WIFI, but if you go and sit outside on the apartment steps, you can log on to tignesnet.com which gives you free wifi access from the tourist information office opposite. During the day you can go inside the office with your lap top, where they have charge points, low tables and comfy chairs. (2) The top bunk is unsuitable for little children as the ladder is steep and slippy with no hand rail (wouldn't recommend for under 8s). We used the double futon bed in the second bedroom for our littles as a compromise, so you could easily sleep 6 in this apartment if you had a range of ages. For those who like to watch DVDs after a long day on the slopes, the sofas were veerrrry comfortable. Good security. Front door pin code access. Ski locker on the ground floor was excellent and secure (free). Lift was great as apartment is on the top floor. We heard no noise from anyone else all week. Mainly french residents. Great views. Lovely balcony. Could just about ski within 500 metres of the apartment by going along a track towards the Golf parking off the blue run back to the village. If we go back to Tignes, we would use this apartment again and have recommended it to friends and collegues.
