About this property

Pen- y -Bont Cottage - a luxurious holiday home in Snowdonia National Park

A fully restored luxurious home in Snowdonia National Park close to the market town of Bala. Pen- y -Bont Cottage is approximately 250 years old. So it was very young when Napoleon was on his mission to conquer Europe and Admiral Nelson and the Duke of Wellington were doing their best to prevent him. Pen- y -Bont in Welsh is literally ‘ Bridge End’. As there are many rivers in Wales there are many bridges and as such, many properties called Pen - y - Bont but only one Pen- y -Bont Cottage at the Llanuwchllyn Bridge. Originally the house was infact 4 very small peasant cottages. The property lay vacant and derelict for many years, then in the late 1990’s a local builder extended and modernised it including raising the building height into what we hope you will agree is a beautiful home.
The property is a 3 Bedroom house with adjacent parking. The car park is directly across the lane through the double swing gates. The area can accommodate up to 4 cars. Pen- y -Bont has a fully fitted kitchen, dining room, and lounge. Pen Y Bont sleeps 6, Bedroom 1 has a king size bed, Bedroom 2 has a double bed and Bedroom 3 has 2 single beds. All beds have high quality White Company linen provided. In addition we do have a portable cot but no linen is provided for this.
Also upstairs there is a bathroom comprising bath, shower and toilet facilities. We provide high quality toweling for your stay. On the ground floor there is a utilities room fitted with washer & drier and a toilet. Adjacent to the utility room is a cloaks & boot room.
The comfortable lounge has a 40 inch flat screen tv with Amazon Prime, Netflix and a PS3 game consul. A collection of dvd’, PS3 games and board games are also available. Free WiFi ensures you can keep in touch with the world on your favourite social network. To keep you cosy the house has oil central heating and a wood stove in the lounge.

Pen- y -Bont is in the small village of Llanuwchylln village just 5 miles from the market town of Bala. Lake Bala is one of the largest lakes in Wales and there are facilities to hire canoes and dinghies. For the more adventurous there is white water rafting and the thrills of Mount Snowdon all within easy reach of Pen- y -Bont.

If it’s the beach you fancy then there are many but our favourite is the sweeping bay at Barmouth, just 30 mins away. Castles at Harlech, Cricceth , Beaumaris and Canearvon also provide great days out.

To celebrate your arrival to our home we provide a ‘Welcome Pack’ consisting of a bottle of prosecco, tea, coffee and a basket of wood logs and coal to get your stay started in the right fashion.

Lovely Welsh cottage

The cottage has all that you would need. Clear instructions folder was greatly appreciated. The fact that the cottage is well over 200 years old is fascinating. Stunning landscape all around and easily accessible by car. Our teenagers preferred it over Chessington world of adventure!! One cheeky sheep woke us up at 1am😀 but the peace and quiet was lovely. We are already thanking when we can return. Many thanks. Lidia and the family x

Beautiful cottage

What can I say, excellent communication excellent comfy beds with lovely pillows and bedding. lots of little touches that made it special, luscious soaps and moisturisers at sinks. Easy to find, a nice local pub up the road in easy walking distance, also petrol station with shop and logs. Lovely views out to sheep fields. Colin and Amanda were extremely flexible and gave good suggestions on local places to visit and eat - the George 111 pub was perfect and delicious roast. Thank you for a wonderful stay we highly recommend:-)

Pen-y-Bont Cottage, in Bala was lovely, it was just what we were looking for.

Lovely place to stay, home from home, loved the Alexa, we had fun with that. It was a calm peaceful place and accommodating for walkers. There were four of us in our party and we all enjoyed and valued staying at the cottage.

A beautiful, luxurious home from home cottage

We spent three nights here and loved every minute. There are so many lovely additions that make this an extra special place. From the numerous board games, the great selection of DVD’s and TV channels to the lovely views, this cottage has it all. The first morning we were woken by the sound of sheep in the field opposite the cottage, the second morning by cows, it was lovely to hear them. The location is perfect for visiting numerous places, with just a five minute drive to Bala where you can find lovely cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops. The owners have thought of everything to ensure your stay is perfect. Looking forward already to our next stay in November.

Exceptional holiday cottage!

We all loved our stay at Pen-y-bont cottage. This cottage exceeded our expectations it has everything that a family require and more. Really good wifi kept the teenagers happy as well as the PS3 and Netflix. The kitchen has everything you can wish for ( a dishwasher) and the 4 of us found there was plenty of space to chill in this comfy cottage which has been well cared for. I loved the comfy beds and fresh white linens and towels. The location is a perfect base for country walks, trips to Barmouth and Zip World. The local store/pub "The Eagle" is friendly and I recommend the fish pie or vegetarian curry. We hope to be back very soon!

Fabulous first visit to Snowdomia!

We stayed four nights in Pen-y-Bont cottage in April. It’s a beautiful property, with loads of gorgeous traditional features . It had everything we needed and Amanda and Colin were excellent throughout with their communications. A big thank you and thumbs up for the wonderful welcome supplies too! The cottage has a lovely big kitchen with a dining table in, well equipped for eating in which we did twice. However we must give a shout out to the pub down the road The Eagles Inn where we ate twice- great food and even better still, they did a great vegan shepherds (and apparently the best steak and ale pie ever!). Thank you so much for our wonderful stay Anna and family

Why they chose this property

We bought Pen- y -Bont cottage initially as a second home and it has served us well. The wider family used it as a bolt hole and we had family gatherings enabled by the great parking and capacity of the cottage. It is also a quite stunning property both externally and internally. It is also central to benefit from all that Wales can deliver and an unbelievable place to forget about work and city life.

What makes this property unique

We love this property because it is in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park with access to everything that the location brings such as, forest walks, river and lake activities, mountains & waterfalls and of course beaches. Importantly we love the small welsh towns of Llangollen, Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Betws-Coed and of course the eclectic Portmerrion with its Italian influences. Not forgetting the seaside resort of Barmouth with its beautiful beach and the best fish & chips in the world.
