About this property

Puffin Place, cosy Seahouses cottage, quiet location near harbour & village

Puffin Place is a great little holiday hideaway within the historic conservation area of Seahouses. Its location is right in the heart of the former fish smokeries and traditional fishing cottages. Puffin Place has been tastefully converted and modernised from being part of the adjacent smokery into a comfortable and well equipped holiday home.

The cottage is in a peaceful location but just a minute's walk from the busy harbour and the Northumberland Coastal Path passes the end of the road just 70 yards away. This holiday home from home has a warm and inviting feel, is equipped to a high standard and is perfectly suited for either couples or small families. The cottage comes with an allocated parking space in the courtyard to the rear of the property.

The cottage is located within a 2 minute walk of the village amenities where there's a good choice of shops, pubs and restaurants. Guests can take daily boat trips available to the Farne Islands, the home of seals and seabirds and explore the surrounding area filled with wildlife. There are beautiful sandy beaches to the north and south with lots of places of interest just a short journey away. Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island are a short drive up the coast and the historic market town of Alnwick along with castle and gardens is 20 minutes inland.

The lovely Puffin Place

We loved it, great location in Seahouses within walking distance to centre/harbour. The big bonus was 'Smoked Fish' next door. Would love to come back at some stage.

Great cottage

Great little cottage in perfect location. 5 minute stroll to the harbour and town. Downstairs in the cottage is a little bit small but myself and two teenagers had plenty of room and everything we needed. Bedrooms are a lovely size. Everything nice and clean. Nice, charming decor. Would recommend a stay here

Puffin Place

We enjoyed our stay at Puffin Place, it's very well presented, everything is to a high standard and very clean. The bedrooms are comfortable, we slept very well, and the downstairs although compact worked very well for the two of us. It's very well located, just a short walk to the facilities of the town and the harbour. The hosts communicate well and their attention to detail was exemplary.

Lovely cottage in a nice quiet area

Situated next door to the smokery [no noise from them], the cosy cottage is great for visiting castles of Northumberland, beaches, bird spotting and a fantastic boat trip to the Farne Islands. Thank you for a nice stay made welcome by the goodies provided on arrival.

Excellent location in Seahouses

Great little place to stay, quiet and conveniently located for everything you would want to do in Seahouses. The house is well equipped and provisioned and the on site private parking is a real bonus. Owners are easy to communicate with and responsive, the directions and method of check in, perfect.

Bijou living but great bedrooms and very well equipped

Stayed during our sunny summer weather and found that it was ideal and well situated in a quiet area but close to all the amenities of Seahouses. Also an ideal place to discover this part of Northumberland. A bonus that it is next door to Swallow smokehouse and fish. An ideal place for more elderly people like us! - although there are a number of stairs which we found OK.

About the host

Hosted by Amanda & Jonathan Bailey

Host profile image
Amanda and Jonathan Bailey live in Newcastle upon Tyne, just down the coast and use Puffin Place as a home from home as well as hiring out the cottage to visitors. We have two young children who like us, love to visit Seahouses.

Amanda works in the charitable sector while Jonathan runs his own business, both in Newcastle.

We both love the North East countryside and coast, having been born and raised in the area before meeting and getting married in 2007 and returning to the region to live in 2008.

We bought Puffin Place in April 2018 from a couple who liked Seahouses so much that they decided to move here permanently!

Why they chose this property

We bought Puffin Place in April 2018 both in order to be able to use the cottage ourselves and hire out to visitors. It takes just an hour to get to from our home in Newcastle, and once there we rarely feel the need to use the car except when we're taking a day-trip to one of the many nearby sites of interest.

In the time we have spent in the Seahouses everyone seems very friendly, even by North-East standards. Its a 'resort village' with something for everyone and is ideally located in the centre of the Northumbrian coastline. All the other attractions of the Northumbria coast are within a short drive: to the north (Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and Berwick); to the south (Craster, Beadnell and Embleton) and inland to Alnwick and a multitude of picturesque villages and other attractions.

The cottage is tucked away in a quiet location in the oldest part of the village, among the smokeries and fishermen's cottages, but just a very short walk from the bustling harbour and the centre of the town.

Despite its history - it was built in around 1850 - the cottage has been fully modernised and run as a popular holiday let since 2001.

What makes this property unique

The last surviving smokery in Seahouses is just next door, and as one of Rick Stein's original food heroes they sell smoked salmon and kippers with a legendary reputation.

The harbour is just a few hundred yards from the cottage, offering boat trips to the Farne Islands, with their puffins, terns, seals and lighthouses. At the end of the road is the Northumberland Coastal Path, and wonderful views of the harbour, Bamburgh Castle and a fabulous spot to sit and watch the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

The village has a good choice of pubs including the historic Olde Ship Inn and other places to eat and drink including several excellent fish and chip restaurants, all within a few minutes walking distance of the cottage.

For golfers, Seahouses Golf Club is 10 minutes walk away, and there are many other excellent courses in the area.
