The Coach House is a beautifully light and spacious stone cottage with stunning period features and all modern facilities. Set in the quiet Prospect Place cul-de-sac with your own off-street parking space. Recently re-furnished, the large rooms benefit from modern furniture that provides a contemporary yet homely environment. Family friendly the house is also ideal for couples or larger groups. Included is all bedding and towels for 2 double bedrooms and a twin room, as well as a large double sofa bed in the living room, with bedding available (just ask). The Master bedroom has a king sized bed, and both that and the second double bedroom have incredibly comfortable memory foam mattresses and all bedrooms have black-out curtains as your holiday sleep is very important. There is a spacious main family bathroom with power shower, plus the master bedroom benefits from an en-suite toilet, and there is even a down-stairs toilet in the utility room. A travel cot is available with bedding and a high chair just let us know if you'd like the cot setting up for your arrival. Make your stay relaxing rather than a chore with all the modern facilities including dish-washer, Nespresso pod coffee machine, wifi, large screen smart TV, google chrome-cast, bluetooth speaker, radio/CD/bluetooth in kitchen, washing machine, tumble-dryer and even a bell BBQ with outdoor dining furniture.

ACTIVITIES
With Dalby Forest just up the road the Coach House is ideal as your base for outdoor activities whether that be strolling through the village and picturesque lanes, hiking on the moors or in the forest, heading to the sea-side (just 30 minutes drive), family cycling on the quiet bridleways up-to and around Dalby forest or serious mountain biking on the famous purpose-built Dalby forest MTB Trails. Bridleways and footpaths lead from just over the road straight into the heart of Dalby Forest without having to use the main roads (just head for Ellerburn and then follow signs for the campsite). There is also plenty of bike storage and a hose to wash your bikes.
The Beck (stream) as shown in the images is just 1/4 mile from the cottage and is lined by some of the most pristine thatched cottages and gardens in Yorkshire. Myself and our children have spent many summer hours paddling and playing in the water and relaxing in the sunshine. There is even a duck pond in the village to feed the ducks.

Great house, great location

This is a lovely house, well placed for our trip to Yorkshire to visit Mathewsons Car Auctions and to cycle in the area both on roads and on the trails at Dalby Forest . The property was clean, comfortable and well equipped and we would certianly consider returning for a further stay.

Enjoyable Stay

Pleasant, characterful house in a quiet location, in a pretty village with pubs, chippy and general stores. Ideally located for our week visiting Whitby, Scarborough, York and Helmsley. Very comfortable and well equipped. Having a car parking space in a village that could be busy at times was great. Just round the corner from Mathewsons so we are now "Bangers and Cash" fans too!

Fabulous stay

A wonderful stay at the Coach House. Clean and well kitted out for our stay. Headed over to the New Inn for dinner which had lovely food. Hired bikes from Dalby bike shop in the village and cycled into the forest- wonderful day. So much on your door step and cannot fault the property and Nina was a brilliant host. Thank you so much for our wonderful time away. 😊

Another fantastic stay

This is our second stay and we were right to come back. This is a fabulous property in a great village with everything you might need for your stay. We enjoyed trips to Scarborough and Dalby Forest and the local park for the kids is great for running off their last bits of energy! We highly recommend the New Inn for a greaf tea. Thanks again 😀

Great location

Central location for visiting Work, Scarborough, Whitby. village is really nice. Even in November many food options here and local. The Buck Inn were fantastic, Spice 4 U in Pickering was great but watch out for the portion sizes - you need a big appetite. Cottage was comfortable. bed access to the second double bed was very limited if occupied by two people. Could do with outside lighting at the front for the dark nights couldn't see the steps. Well provisioned kitchen and facilities. All in all a great visit.

Lovely stay, beautiful village and fantastic host

The property was better than described and the information from the host before, during and after our visit was great. The location was perfect for visiting Dalby Forest, Scarborough and Castle Howard and the village had lots to offer including a great park for the kids just around the corner. I would recommend the New Inn over the Buck Inn if you are eating out and the fish and chips were delicious! Thanks again and we are looking forward to coming been next year x

Wonderful cottage in the centre of Thornton Le Dale

We had a fantastic week in this really lovely cottage in the centre of Thornton Le Dale. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and sent us lots of information about the area beforehand so that we could plan some trips. The cottage itself is decorated and furnished really tastefully and not cluttered. The garden at the back gets the sun for most of the day and is lovely to sit out in. Thornton Le Dale is really 'central' and we had fantastic days wondering around Whitby & Robin Hoods Bay, paddleboarding at the North Yorks Waterpark, at the aquapark in Scarborough, doing GoApe in Dalby Forest, walking the Hole of Horcum and going to Camp Eden (which is absolutely fantastic and full of information about WW2 as well as other wars and really needs 3-4 hours to make the most of it!) And if you're a Bangers & Cash fan Matthewsons garage/car auction is literally at the bottom of the road! For food we would highly recommend Figaros in Pickering and the Fox and Rabbit pub just north of Dalby Forest. The fish & chip shop in the village is fab as are the ice creams and the local Nisa is perfect for top ups at reasonable prices. All in all a wonderful week :-)

Fantastic family break

What a wonderful home, and Nina and family were so helpful, accommodating with fantastic communication. The house is even better than shown. It is a wonderful home from home, so comfortable, clean with a lovely warm feeling. We were a family of seven, with our elderly 87 year old father, who informed us that the bed settee was really comfortable, as he is unable to climb the stairs. The toilet downstairs was a blessing for him also, with plenty of room for washing. the garden is a great space, and a real little sun trap, where We had a barbecue in the evening. There was everything in the house that you could think of. We had a fabulous time exploring the area, we went on the steam train, and visited Scarborough and Whitby, and also the moors. Dad enjoyed his walk around Matthewson's and was overjoyed to meet Derek, as he is an avid Bangers and Cash viewer. Once again Nina, you have a beautiful home, and your extras in the house are a fantastic gesture. As a family we would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, as we made wonderful memories as a family. Thanks xx

The Coach House and surrounding area..

We've had another 2 weeks at The Coach House. This is a large property that can easily sleep 6 and contains everything for a self catering family holiday. Ideally located for Scarborough and York (20 min drive) and the vast North Yorkshire Moors. Good public transport links too. For the more adventurous Dalby forest has something to cater for everyone. Had a really relaxing time. Both village pubs were open for business offering great food and drink.

About the host

Hosted by Nina Marchment

Host profile image
We are Nina and Tom Marchment, plus Evie, Deacon & Veda our 3 children. I am a midwife and baby photographer and Tom runs a bicycle business called HUNT with his brother. We live in a village near Brighton on the South Coast where Tom's business is based.

Why they chose this property

I (Nina) grew up in Thornton-Le-Dale and several of my family still live here, we come back to Thornton-le-Dale every few months as we can't stay away. We love cycling and walking in Dalby Forest and the kids absolutely adore playing in the clear waters of the Beck. Plus the pubs and cafes are excellent. We hope you love visiting Thornton-le-Dale as much as we do and that you find The Coach House to be a relaxing home from home .

What makes this property unique

The Coach House grabbed our attention as it was very unique being an original stone building but with spacious rooms and large light windows, meaning it feels as bright inside as it does outside. Of course the private garden was also a massive draw for relaxing and evening barbecues. Oh and we also very much appreciate the plentiful bike storage and easy off street parking.
