About this property
Sweet wooden chalet on the dunes by Hayle beach - 3 miles of golden sand
My little wooden chalet is on the sand dunes & SW Coast path on St. Ives Bay. It’s lovely & quiet with easy access to the beach (3 miles of golden sand) & town (cafes, local crafts, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, pubs, transport links …). The beach is lifeguarded & good for swimming & surfing. My chalet was made in the 50s with space to sit & eat & sunbathe outside. It is usually used by my family so has a lived-in cosy vintage style. One of 3 bedrooms is closed where our stuff is stored.
The chalet is great for a romantic break for a couple or for a family holiday to remember. Please message me if the dates you want don't come up as the check-in date is set for Friday or Saturday (with a 6 night minimum) but this can be changed sometimes.
You can park the car/s right outside the chalet. There is a playground very close to the chalet and a convenience store 5 minutes away with a post box, The Bluff Inn pub (with terrace and games room) and café, the Black Lobster, nearby. Hayle has a well-equipped playground and skate bowl that can be reached by walking/ scootering/ biking. It is possible to rent SUP, kayak & surf equipment close by and to have lessons.
Hayle Beach and Estuary are great because water gets trapped when the tide goes out making perfect pools for children to play in or mess around with inflatables. Some of the best local surf schools (such as Shore Surf) will pick up you/your kids.
In the chalet there is a living room, kitchen, bathroom and utility area (with dishwasher and washing machine) and two bedrooms, one with a raised 'Captain's double bed and one with bunkbeds and you have exclusive use of it all. This is our home so it's cosy, lived in and decorated with vintage items we love, but you'll find it clean and tidy. The external paintwork needs some love but we are not allowed to paint it until October so as not to disturb people in other chalets - unfortunately.
There IS free Wi-Fi offered by the site that the chalet is on but I don’t find it very reliable so I recommend that you use a Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone and/ or get a data only SIM if you need a lot of Wi-Fi. Three mobile offers the best mobile connection in my chalet but you can also check with ofcom.
There are some great places to eat in Hayle - e.g. Antoninis, Salt bar and The Cornish Arms for example and for daytime eating only there's the Blue Bay cafe 20 minutes along the dunes or beach and, a bit further the Godrevy Cafe. Hayle likes live music and there are various pubs that have bands - such as the The Copperhouse, Bird in Hand etc.. that pub is near a wildlife sanctuary, Paradise Park, with lots of birds (including penguins) and an indoor play area with slides etc.... good for a rainy day with kids in case there is one! There’s also go-karting, pitch and putt, you can rent bikes from Ash at Hayle Cycles or surf boards & kayaks from many places in Hayle along the beach right up to Gwithian & Godrevy. Of course running, walking, playing & swimming are amazing and free!
St Ives Bay is famous for it's exceptional light that has always drawn artists for over 100 years. There are art classes at St Ives School of Painting including drop-in life drawing classes Thurs eve and Sat day & eve. Balnoon workshop also does various art classes & screen printing sessions. There are yoga classes all around the area - look online for Lucy Aldridge who takes early morning classes on Porthmeor Beach, Jo at Porthmeor Studios and Una spa offers a mixture of class times. If you're interested in (or need!) a sport's massage I can give you some numbers. The bay is also good for windsurfing, kite surfing and gliding. At night it's dark so if it's not cloudy you can see the stars and the moon and sometimes glow worms if you walk to the beach through the dunes.
My settings are fixed as a Friday or Saturday check-in with a 6 night minimum but if you are keen to come the evening of Tues 31st July or weds 1st August or another combination of days please message me & I might be able to do that & can send you an offer if so.
Check in time is after 4pm and check out if by 10am.
No pets please, or extra guests, thank you. I do not charge for cleaning but would like you to leave the chalet clean and tidy which is why there is a deposit that HomeAway holds onto.

About the host
Hosted by Lucy

I work in the arts, media and academia and am renting out my home/ chalet for 6 weeks in the summer to make up for time taken out from work to finish my PhD!
Why they chose this property
We really do have turquoise blue sea and golden sand here... the sunsets on our North coast and you can walk 3 miles along Hayle beach without leaving the beach (unless the tide is super high) but even then, there's sand on the dunes which are beautiful. Hayle is great because it's close to the A30 and the road to Helston etc.. which is great if you like to explore the area. There's parking right next to the chalet otherwise it's close to train and bus transport links.
What makes this property unique
It's a genuine beach chalet built in the 1950s. The family before me put in double glazing but there are lots of original features that make it quirky and sweet.
