About this property

Idyllic Bergerie with views, NEW heated saltwater pool and 6ac beautiful grounds

From 8. July to 25. August arrival and departure day is Saturday.

The pool is open from May to October 24h a day.

The Owners, David and Ariane, invite you to enjoy the charm of our Domaine du Moulin, which dates back to around 1800. The Domaine, its four Gîtes and the large heated swimming pool are located close to Limoux in a picturesque valley. Set in over two hectares (6 acres) of secluded grounds the Domaine enjoys splendid views of the medieval hill-top village of Roquetaillade and surrounding hills. Only 30 minutes from Carcassonne and its airport and about an hour from Toulouse, it is ideally placed to explore the Cathare castles, the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean Sea and the most productive wine region in the world - or just relax by the swimming pool and take in the views.

The Bergerie was built of local stone over 200 years ago and has been lovingly transformed into a welcoming holiday home. From the main house, the Bergerie is situated about 30m further up the hill, separated by some trees.

The house comprises of one bedroom and an open-plan, split-level lounge and kitchen, shower room and private terrace.

The living room is furnished with a comfortable sofa, two chairs, a coffee table and reading lamps as well as TV and CD player.

The kitchen is fully equipped with table and chairs, gas hob/oven and dishwasher.

The shower room contains two basins, a toilet and a good size shower.

The kitchen patio door opens onto the private terrace which enjoys stunning views of our valley and overlooks the pool. The terrace is equipped with garden furniture and a gas BBQ for enhanced outdoor living "Mediterranean style".

Please note: Due to its position on a slope the Bergerie is not suitable for people with walking difficulties!

A peaceful location with good views down the valley

A good location, nice stone building, well equipped kitchen and good sized pool. We had a very enjoyable week visiting castles and medieval towns and villages.

Lovely countryside stay

The Bergerie is perfect for one person or cosy for two. Comfortable, with everything you need. Wild orchids in the lawn and lots of quiet. it would be a bit too cold any earlier in the year, but lovely over Spring and Summer. Ariana and Duncan are great hosts, friendly but private. It's a hike up the hill, so you don't want to be lugging up heavy baggage, but it just makes it more private.

A hidden gem!

A really cosy and well-equipped gite in a superb rural location yet just 10 minutes drive from the centre of Limoux. The gite was spotless and occupies an elevated position about 60 meters uphill from the main house with fantastic views up the valley to the village of Roquetaillade. David and Ariane were ideal hosts, friendly and helpful yet unobtrusive. This gite would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues but, as a couple in our late sixties, we had no problem at all and would certainly book again!

Lovely, relaxing, sunny holiday

We had a lovely holiday in the Bergerie. It suited us a couple. it is in a peaceful location and we often had the pool to ourselves. We were greeted by the owners, shown around and able to drive our car up to the property to unload on arrival and load before leaving. The owners were easy to contact and quick to resolve any queries or problems. The gas BBQ was a great and we often used this if we did not fancy the drive to a nearby village or to the nearest town of Limoux. (NB no shop or restaurant in walking distance) sitting on the patio at night the views are stunning and the night sky so clear we could star spot. The Bergerie has everything you need, the only things I would change is add a washing machine (instead of dishwasher) and have a larger Fridge. the bed was very comfortable, the shower powerful and the bathroom a good size with two sinks! The Town of Limoux is about 10-15 minutes away and has 3 or 4 supermarkets, shops, regular markets and places to eat. It is also famous for 'Blanquette' which is fizzy white wine, which is very easy to drink!. Lots of lovely wine to be tried and lots of different places to visit within an hour of the property eg Carcassone, Canal du Midi, Cathar Castles, walks, the coast, rivers, Beautiful villages, markets etc. There is plenty of information at the Bergerie and a good tourist information office in Limoux.

Limoux / Carcassonne area touring base.

A very nice little gite, one of 3 completely separate facilities on site in addition to the Duncan family home, and with a well-maintained shared swimming pool. Located in the hills to the west of Limoux (some 10 minutes drive) and ideally situated for exploring the wider Carcassonne / eastern foothills of the Pyrenees area - the Med is not too far away, either, via the autoroute. A car is required - the gite is well out into the country with no local shops within walking distance, so supplies were collected when returning from day trips. The Bergerie is as shown on the website - a delightful little haven for 2 with all necessary facilities and with a good standard of decoration (fitting the rural ambiance of the property). It is surrounded by hills and with a nice glimpse down the vally of mountains (snow-covered summits in mid-June) visible from the patio/veranda (whilst enjoying an evening bbq!). There are also nice walks, both in the grounds of the property and slightly further afield. Be warned that the property is 30-50m uphill from the car parking area: repeated carrying of luggage and food supplies up to the gite on arrival after a long hot drive was tiring - and I consider myself fit for mid-60s- and slightly less so on departure. But all-in-all a very nice base for a relaxing week's stay in mid-June spent, spent in a beautiful area with always lots to do and see.

A beautiful holiday gite

Excellent, comfortable accommodation with everything that you need for a great holiday. A wonderful location with many towns and attractions within easy reach. The gite is situated in a secluded spot enjoying breathtaking scenery in a tranquil valley. The owners Ariane and David are very welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and they were very helpful with our travel arrangements and are extremely knowledgeable about the area. We had an amazing holiday and will definitely be returning next summer - looking forward to it already!

2013 our stay in the South of France

It worked out to be a perfect holiday for us. We flew into Toulouse and hired a small car, drove to the Gite located near Limoux. Very easy to find and only about 1hr 15 mins away. Very nice family and nothing was too much. The village of Limoux has every thing you would need to shop for food, take aways, bars and restaurants. Loved Carcassonne and we drove to the Med in about 2hrs - again, very easy to drive to. The Gite is exactly what we wanted, out of the way in our own space, to come and go as we please! Would we go back again? Of course! Loved it!

Cosy little gite in the Aude

We stayed in Araine and David's lovely complex of gites over the Easter weekend and would highly recommend them. The peaceful location was perfect for discovering the Aude valley (and further beyond!! - We did over 600km in the 4 days we were there!) The Studio itself was compact, but had everything you would need for a couple. There is a lovely decked area for sitting out on and sipping the local Blanquettes de Limoux which is renowned for being the Original Brut... Because of the time of year, we were not fortunate enough to use the pool, but I can imagine during the summer months it would be a must after a hard day sight seeing! Thank you both for being so hospitable - we would definitely like to return!

lovely stay for a week

Property listing comprehensive and accurate, gite fully equipped, clean and comfortable, with owners and family on site very friendly and helpful. Particularly kind with recommendation for a restaurant with a special Sunday night deal which the owner then phoned to make a booking for us. Owner provided good customer service. Would certainly recommend this gite to a friend, but would stress that this is a small gite with tiny bathroom/toilet, and lovely while sunny to have the separate balcony for bbq, dining and sitting, perhaps the gite will feel quite small staying in during inclement weather. Lovely spot, trees, birds and crickets, just the right comfortable distance away from the main town on a minor road, and a safe-ish drive at night. Central to lots of picturesque castles, villages, and beautiful scenery getting there. We enjoyed all the sights, visiting/learning about churches, castles, wines, and the history of the area. There were lots more! We choose beach holidays elsewhere. We enjoy one day away, next day - half day away then relax at the gite, including using the lovely/spacious pool. We enjoyed using the bbq, twice. Particularly enjoyed the food in the restaurants in the wider area, reasonable value, and wide choice. I missed not reading/asking at booking about a clothes washing machine, and while the owner did say we could have one load, our next stop after the gite we knew had such a facility, so we didn't trouble the owner. Our last gite stay elsewhere five years ago had a "for common use" clothes washing machine. Perhaps not made that clear beforehand that the damage deposit should be brought in Euros and in cash. Thank you so much for your hospitality and for letting us stay in your gite.

Fun for families

Lovely Gite set in picturesque countryside. Very clean and well equipped. The Duncans were very friendly and helpful . The pool was great, and the area generally was very interesting with lots to do. Gorgeous rivers and historic towns everywhere. Would be ideal for families as there is a childrens playground and lots of land to run about. Loved the Canal du Midi and the Mountains. Did not bother with many restaurants as it was too nice sitting on the patio with the BBQ.

Simply fabulous

We stayed at the Bergerie. For a family of three there was more than enough room and the facilities were great. We especially loved eating our meals on the terrace as the views were outstanding. David and Ariane were welcoming and available but not intrusive. The information they supplied in folders in the house was very useful and we especially enjoyed the markets and restaurants around the area. The Bergerie itself had a very good selection of crockery and cookware, was spotlessly clean and so peaceful we did not want to leave. The pool area was splendid and we whiled away several late afternoons there after exploring the local area. Our son particularly enjoyed the sky tv and the wifi which was a bonus for him. We would not hesitate to recommend the Bergerie or the location. Peace and quiet but a few minutes drive to Limoux. Simply fabulous.

Insolite
