SKI/SUN Stylish modern chalet near Staubbach Falls. Jungfrau skiing/hiking area.

Stylish modern two bedroom apartment in the spectacular Lauterbrunnen valley, the most impressive troughed valley in the Swiss Alps. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty with 72 waterfalls the apartment is located between gigantic rock faces and mountain peaks, near the famous Staubbach Falls and close to the Murren and Wengen ski resorts.

The chalet provides easy access to the whole of the Jungfrau ski/hiking area, thus providing the perfect base to explore the Jungfrau region, all year round.

Click on “About Helen Hutton“ for comments from our Guest Book. This gives some great information from previous guests on the apartment and brilliant things to do on your vacation.

Comments from previous guests include:
'We have rented self catering accommodation in Europe for about 15 years and have always been very clear on the standards and specification that we want. Without question yours is the best equipped and highest quality chalet that we have rented, and had the added bonus of feeling like home.' SC

The chalet is located in the heart of the Lauterbrunnen Valley which is regarded as one of the most spectacular glacial valleys in Europe. Located in the Swiss Alps and surrounded by unspoilt natural beauty it is famous for the cascading 300m high Staubbach waterfall, which becomes even more impressive when illuminated at night. It is also the perfect base for exploring the mountain ranges of Jungfrau / Schiltorn / Breithorn and is the starting point to the car free resorts of Wengen and Murren.

Food is always an important part of any holiday and there are a variety of restaurants within a 15 minute walk of the chalet serving traditional swiss dishes plus a more varied menu and the food is excellent. If you want to cook yourself, the apartment is well equipped and groceries are available in the shop opposite the apartment or in Lauterbrunnen village. Here you will find a butchers, bakery, cheese shop and small supermarket.- or why not visit a local farm and buy some milk or cheese straight from the cow!!!

LAUTERBRUNNEN IN WINTER:

Lauterbrunnen is a perfect base for a winter holiday with ski lifts open from early December to mid April each year (subject to snow conditions). There are 45 mountain trains, cable cars, chair and ski lifts, with 213km of pistes for skiers and boarders. Also 100km of winter hiking and cross country paths, and 50km of sledge runs; with the cross country course running near to the apartment. There are also excellent English-speaking ski schools based in Wengen and Murren which also offer childcare facilities.

For the adventurous skier there is the Lauberhorn run above Wengen, venue each January for the Ski World Cup; or the wonderful 16km long run from the top of the Schiltorn back to Lauterbrunnen, rated as one of the best runs in the world with stunning views. The apartment provides easy access to both ski resorts with the ski bus stopping outside the apartment. Take the bus to Lauterbrunnen station (3 mins) then use the train to access skiing above Wengen or the cable car to access Murren skiing; or take the bus in the opposite direction to Stechelberg (7 mins) to access further skiing and the cable car to Schiltorn. What a great base to explore the Jungfrau Ski Region!!!

For the active holidaymaker you can enjoy activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snow-shoe trekking, sledging, paragliding, curling and heli-skiing. However for the more sedate there are reduced price passes for non-skiers so that you can enjoy the fabulous scenery or meet up for lunch. The revolving restaurant at the top of the Schiltorn should not be missed and further afield there are lovely shops and cafes in Grindelwald and Interlaken. It is also possible to take a boat ride on the lake year round.

LAUTERBRUNNEN IN SPRING/SUMMER:

In Spring / Summer Lauterbrunnen is an excellent base for exploring the Jungfrau region. You can take the train up to Jungfraujoch (the highest railway and restaurant in Europe) or the cable car to Schiltorn/Piz Gloria, film location of James Bond.

The bus stop is directly outside the apartment providing easy access to Lauterbrunnen village/station (3 mins) and Stechelberg/Schiltorn (7 mins).

There are hiking and cycle paths for all abilities, the Eiger trail or a gentle stroll along the Lauterbrunnen valley, via Gimmelwald and Stechelberg. Or take bikes up to Murren and cycle back down to Lauterbrunnen.

There is an outdoor pool within a 5 minute walk of the apartment, plus tennis courts and mini golf within a 2 minute walk, with discounts provided for guests. A children's playground is within a 3 minute walk, plus there is a sandpit at the apartment and a slide close-by.

Local folklore festivals, yodelling, flag throwing and dancing displays take place in the summer months and are a joy to watch.

The lakes and Interlaken are only 20 mins away, with several beaches around the lake and plenty of opportunities for swimming, watersports and boat rides.

WINTER SPORT IN SUMMER?:

Sounds crazy but from April to September there is a Snow Park on the Jungfraujoch. Leave the apartment in glorious sunshine and temperatures in the 20's and take the train from Lauterbrunnen station to the 'Top of Europe' were you can speed over glacier cravasses safely attached to a steel cable. Rent skis or snowboards at the top or why not try sledging or snow tubing in the powder snow of the alps.

GOLF:

In the nearby nearly town of Interlaken, and only a 20 minute drive from the apartment is located the Interlaken-Unterseen Golf course. Situated within the stunning backdrop of the Alpine panorama and nestling between he Lakes of Thun and Brienz this golf course is a stunning balance between sport and nature.

Great property in a stunning location. The property had everything we needed and more. It was excellent for a family of four with young(ish) children . A real home from home. The kids loved the trampoline and we all loved the excellent movie collection, making fondue and playing the various boardgames! The short walk in to the centre of Lauterbrunnen was lovely, and only 2 mins on the bus if we were feeling lazy. The nearby pool and playground were great. The hiking options were superb. The sound of the cowbells and the waterfall crashing down the mountain were lovely to hear whilst sitting on the terrace in the evening. We were very happy and relaxed in Helen's property.

Well equipped apartment in a great location

This was our second time to stay at the Hutton apartment. It is located in Lauterbrunnen, a great place to base out of when visiting this area of the Swiss Alps. The apartment is on ground level, very modern and spacious, and very well equipped. The Staubach Falls are right behind the building. The owner has very thoughtfully provided an excellent description of how everything works in the apartment, including instructions and translations for all the appliances. A stay here will spoil you!

Perfectly located

Property was well presented with all the amenities. It was v clean, and we had everything we needed. Only a short walk to the restaurants & shops. The playground is close too which was perfect (a description of it's location would have been handy.) The walks are awesome. We explored both sides of the valley, with amazing views. Loved it all!

Modern chalet in perfect location

The property is well located in the beautiful Lauterbrunnen valley. It is approximately 15 mins walk from the train station and a bit less to village centre. The valley is perfect for walking and exploring the local Jungfrau region with excellent transport links to all the main attractions and an ideal base for visitors without a car. It is also convenient for visiting Bern/Lucern. The property itself is modern and well equipped with an outside patio to enjoy the summer evenings.

Very spacious and comfortable.

A VERY spacious and comfortable apartment in an excellent location with bus stop right outside. Lovely warm apartment with lots of hot water. Easy to dry ski gear. Good DVD collection. Very helpful owner. Footpath to/from Wengan starts across road( through campsite), we had a lovely walk down in the snow. Footpath to river and into Lauterbrunnen nice in evening. Go across the bridge into Camping Jungfrau for closest (and nicest) Bar/Restaurant - only 5 mins walk. We would highly recommend this apartment.

Exceptional apartment in a great location

This apartment is spacious, comfortable, modern and very well appointed. The owner provides detailed instructions about everything from operating the washer/dryer to trash disposal. We slept well, and appreciated the modern, well-equipped kitchen. Having a washer and dryer available was a huge plus, as this was an active vacation, with lots of hiking in warm weather. The location in Lauterbrunnen was superb. We have visited many places of natural beauty, including New Zealand, Costa Rica, and the Norwegian fiords, but the beautiful Lauterbrunnen valley and surrounding Alps topped them all. While it was nice to be able to prepare dinner in the apartment, especially after a long day of hiking, we also had a wonderful dinner at the Hotel Oberland restaurant - excellent cuisine and service. We purchased the half-price vouchers for transportation in Switzerland, and came out WAY ahead by doing so. We did not hesitate to take advantage of the many cog railways, cable cars, etc. that wisk you to high elevations to start hikes and enjoy the incredible scenery. We definitely hope to return!

Lovely apartment in a disappointing location

This was a clean well equipped and well maintained apartment. However it is next to a busy road and a licensed backpacker hostel. The hostel did not enforce any curfew. For 6 out of 7 of our nights in the apartment we had Music and drunk rowdy young adults around the apartment until between 1 and 3 am.

Spotless contemporary accommodations.

Excellent, impeccablely maintained property. Perfectly situated for walking access to town center. If we could change one thing...washer and dryer. Otherwise perfect. Excellent owner. Excellent local contact. We were pleasantly surprised and very pleased to have stayed here and would come again in a heartbeat!

This is a great property located in a very convenient location in Lauterbrunnen. It is right next to the bus stop. The apartment is very well furnished and includes all the amenities one would find in their homes. All you need to do is get the basic groceryrequired to feed yourselves. The apartment was looked after by a very pleasant lady called Kath and she gives you a full download on the amenities. We enjoyed the stay very much and would highly reccomend this apartment as an alternative to a hotel.

Beautiful location

The property is in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. Have been to Lauterbrunnen a couple of years ago and still takes our breath away. We found Helen, the owner, very responsive and easy to deal with. The house was a welcome change to hotels we had been using the previous 6 weeks. It is very well equipped for cooking, washing etc. just like being at home. Found the bed a bit on the hard side. This seems like a Swiss thing as all places we stayed at in Switzerland were the same. Paragliding from Murren into the valley was the highlight. If ever you are tempted to try paragliding you could not pick a better location. Plenty of pretty villages to visit on either side of the valley or further afield.

very high quality modern and comfortable apartment

Four adults and baby were very happy here for one week. The furnishings and equipment in the apartment are extremely high quality, and the building itself is quite new, which made our stay very comfortable. The location is perfect for skiing or visiting the Jungfrau. The organization is superb and the owner is friendly. We will hope to stay here again on our next trip.

Superb place and a fantastic location

The apartment was very good and the location was also superb. All facilities that we required were present in the apartment. All places like Jungfrau, Murren, Wengen, The Eiger base, Grendelwald, Interlaken, Brienz and Lucerne were easily accessable by train or by car (when accessable by road). The property was also very clean and everything was organized. The customer service provided was also excellent.Discussions and queries regarding rental costs and other questions were also quickly answered by the owner. I would definitely recommend this property to others.

Well equipped & very comfortable

Lovely & very well appointed, equipped & comfortable apartment, very spacious. Everything we needed was there, excellent quality of finish & furnishings. Lovely feather down duvets & confortable beds just right for a great nights sleep after being on the mountain all day. Extensive dvd collection to relax in front of & great wifi connection. Short walk into town but best of all the ski bus stops literally right outside. Tip - for skiing we found going early to Murren (try taking lunch on the terrace at the Bellevue Hotel) or Grindelwald which are both lovely villages in their own right & taking the later bus/train to Wengen worked the best - that way you get onto the best mountains early & avoid the hassle & crush of the 1st trains up to Wengen. Many thanks for a great holiday in a wondeful place!

Excellent Base

We were a group of 3 adults looking for a comfortable apartment for a 2 weeks holiday with the aim of hiking (low and higher) and visiting local attractions. We’d been to Lauterbrunnen before so were already familiar with the area. A slight hiccup with the keys on arrival was very quickly sorted out by Cath, the agent. - Thank you Cath! On arrival we put the car in the garage (marked with the owners name) and there it stayed for 2 weeks, apart from two trips, one when we drove to Zermatt (about 2.5hrs each way via the Lotsberg tunnel) and one when we went over the Sustens, Grimsel and Furka passes - a must for anyone who likes driving (it's about a 130mile round trip). On entering the apartment we were greeted with a modern, warm and tidy space. After 2 weeks of use we found the apartment to be comfortable with a good level of equipment. Compared with another apartment we had used this one, although more expensive, proved much better value for money and provided a much higher standard of accommodation. Our only minor disappointment, and reason for 4 stars, was the lack of clear views up the Lauterbrunnen valley, the apartment is on the ground floor and sitting on the patio provides a great view of the other apartment blocks around it. Another slight negative is the proximity of the 'main' road which, although not busy, does have a regular flow of traffic. Also the campsite across the road provided a reasonable amount of background noise, especially in the evenings. The road and campsite also meant that during hot spells we couldn't really leave the windows open at night without encountering a reasonable level of noise. Despite these slight negatives we still spent a lot of very pleasant time sitting on the patio! On the plus side the proximity of the road meant that it was less than a minute walk to the bus stop which gave access to the half hourly bus service between the Station and Stechelberg, a service we used a few times. The walk from the apartment to Lautrebrunnen centre is a pleasant 5-10 minutes and the Station is about 15-20minutes walk. We made use of the butcher, baker and Coop, all very good and also the Schutzen Hotel for well priced meals. Most days we walked from the apartment to catch trains or to go on a hike. Using the bus increases the number and variety of walks available directly from the apartment. To conclude this is a great apartment, well placed and well equipped and we will be booking it again.

Excellent place to stay in a stunning setting

This flat/apartment is beautifully decorated, modern decor, with very comfortable bed, well-stocked kitchen, fabulous shower & tub. Nothing lacking here, and the hostess is outstanding, very nice and very helpful. The location is unbelievably beautiful. You walk out on the patio to see the waterfalls streaming off the high rock cliffs, with the snow-capped Jungfrau mountains in the background of the valley. It is simply gorgeous. And Lauterbrunnen is relatively convenient to many Swiss attractions, since it is just about 15 minutes from the highway, and close to trains to go up to the Jungfrau or Schilthorn. I definitely recommend this place.

Very good choice

This beautiful, very spacious and well equipped apartment is suitable for travellers by car and public transport. The "post-auto" has a bus stop right in front of the apartment Because we’re fond of coffee, the only thing we thought was missing in the apartment was a tradional coffee machine. It's possible to buy a Melitta filter at the local store so you can make a pot of filter coffee. Lauterbrunnen is a very nice village, and a perfect starting point for trips to various waterfalls, the Jungfraujoch, the Schilthorn and Interlaken. We only stayed for one week, but will definitely be back for more sightseeing in this beautiful part of Switzerland.

We have just spent an excellent week at the apartment and would have no hesitation in saying that the apartment and the ara is first class. There are so many places to visit and the rail and bus services make it easy to get around if you do not wish to take a car. For those who like walking or cycling you could not wish for anywhere better.

Holiday in Lauterbrunnen

We had a lovely time in Lauterbrunnen last week staying at Helen's apartment. The location is fantastic with a view of the famous waterfall and the Brighthorn Mountain. We walked to Murren and went on all the cable cars and trains in the area. We all would love to have another holiday here. The property was very clean and well maintained and we would have no hesitation in recommending this to our friends. We can also recommend the Hotel Oberland for a good evening meal.

Holiday in Lauterbrunnen

The apartment was ideal for our needs and Laterbrunnen being a farming community was quiet and not too touristy The description of the apartment was accurate and better than expected. The owners representative was available but unobtrusive I would certainly recommend this to selected friends depending on their requirements for a holiday It was a pity that there was a bulding site across the road but again this did not intrude into our holday experience We did not appreciate that the monday following our arrival was a local bank holiday so maybe these details could be included in the holiday information We have been to Switzerland many times so we knew what to expect

Visit

This was an exceptional property. We have been staying at hotels throughout our stay so this was our first VRBO facility. It was so nice to have separation with bedrooms, etc. This was a wonderful property with a well equipped kitchen and great couches. I was able to watch my Netflix on the television. The patio was very relaxing. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone. Helen(the host) was very communicative and actually allowed us to stay an extra hour on our departure date. I would love to stay here again if my travels ever come through Switzerland. A highly recommended unit

Short stay in Lauterbrunnen

We stayed at this property in the summer. It was perfect for a family of 4. A lot of space to spread out. The location gave us easy access to town, but away from the bustle of downtown. I gave it a 4 out of 5 for location because it is located near a busy road. With the windows open, you heard all the trucks, cars, and people go by. The apartment was very clean, but a bit musty when we got there. We left the windows and large patio doors open for a day and that helped a lot. Lauterbrunnen is a very wet area with the waterfalls and I think that contributed to the issues. We also brought a car and there was a parking spot right there. Super easy. For someone coming in from the train, with luggage, it would be a bit of a walk, but still doable. All in all, I would definitely rent this apartment again for a family vacation to the alps.

Excellent location to explore the Jungfrau region

Our family of three (husband/wife + 17yo) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beds were comfortable and we finally found decent pillows here. Washer/dryer was appreciated as well. The location allowed for easy walking access to restaurants within Lauterbrunnen. It was also quick driving access (or bus/train) to the lovely towns of Interlaken and Grindelwald. I also recommended the quick 5 minute ride up to Stengelberg to begin your memorable journey up to the top of Schilthorn! It’s 1/3 the price of going up Jungfraujoch!

Cherish Yesterday - Dream Tomorrow - Live Today

I love to spend my free time in Lauterbrunnen with my husband and son. Walking in the mountains, cycling the trails and enjoying snow sports in the Winter - sledging, skiing and ice skating.

I hope you like the apartment as much as we do and if you would like to chat through anything please feel free to send me an enquiry or give me a call and I will do my best to help you plan your next holiday.

Why they chose this property

My husband and I went on holiday to Lauterbrunnen when our son was 4 months old. We were so impressed by its natural beauty that the apartment was bought a few months later. It is in the most spectacular valley with magnificent waterfalls that no other place can compare. At first the apartment was purely our holiday home and not a rental, therefore it contains more than your average rental and is much more homely. However I wanted other people to enjoy the apartment and Lauterbrunnen and so began renting it for holidays - and have not looked back since. I have made contact with many people from all over the world and to hear the stories from their holidays gives nearly as much pleasure as being their myself.

What makes this property unique

Lauterbrunnen has something for everyone - you can walk through the valley floor or jump out of an aeroplane and paraglide down. Whether you are a daredevil or want to take it easy and experience the unique scenery there is something for everyone. At the end of the day, to sit and relax on the patio in one of the most magnificent valleys in the world is just bliss!!!!
