About this property
Charming studio on the outskirts of Glastonbury with WiFi and parking.
The Banditry is tucked away on the outskirts of Glastonbury. This quirky town is renowned not just for the infamous Glastonbury Festival but for its historical significance and has been a spiritual haven which has attracted seekers, pilgrims and mystics for centuries. Our cosy open plan studio is self contained with its own private entrance and off-road parking. Recently refurbished and tastefully decorated, it offers a warm and comfortable space - the perfect base to explore all that Somerset has to offer. A gradual climb uphill before descending into town will take 15 minutes, whilst the Tor is 25 minutes walk away. The Banditry is all on ground level with a fully equipped kitchen that includes a table to seat 2 people, ceramic hob, fan oven, coffee maker, toaster and kettle. We also provide all the usual cutlery, drinking glasses, mugs, pans, cooking utensils and trays for the oven. Don’t worry about cooking or cleaning essentials, it’s all covered.
For our dog lovers there are bowls for food and water.
Our complimentary welcome pack includes tea, coffee, milk and sugar. Alternatives are available upon request.
There is no washing machine but for those wishing to stay longer, we will happily wash and dry your clothes for a small extra charge or if you prefer there is ‘The Washing Well’ launderette on Glastonbury High Street.
Everything in The Banditry is brand spanking new! You will sleep in a new double bed with 100% cotton sheets. For extra comfort there are extra blankets stored underneath the bed.
The en-suite (again all new) has an electric shower, heated towel rail and cotton towels. Our shampoo, conditioner and body wash are Faith In Nature.
Mobile signal can be a bit variable but should you want to stay connected to the real world there is WiFi and a Flat Screen Smart TV. There are some books and board games available.
Glastonbury Tor, Glastonbury Abbey, and The Chalice Well are well worth a visit. The vibrant High Street has an eclectic mix of shops. Food-wise there is something for everyone and to suit every budget. As a treat we recommend The Queen of Cups, The Old Tannery (a little further out of town) for breakfast, or Gigi’s for pizza. Coffee Zero is perfect for a wallet friendly alternative. We always enjoy a ‘cafe’ style breakfast. For us, Knight’s Fish and Chips wins the best chippy in town. Fara is another little gem for breakfast or afternoon tea and cake. The market takes place on Tuesdays 9-2pm.
Middlewick Farm is a short drive or a 25 minute walk away. You can enjoy browsing the local produce in the farm shop, sample a full breakfast, lunch, coffee, cakes and snacks. They also offer Spa Days if you fancy some luxurious pampering.
There is a Londis at the top of the hill. It’s approximately 10 minutes walk or a minutes drive. It’s open Monday-Friday 6am-10pm & Sunday 7am-10pm. There is a Co-Op on Glastonbury High Street and a Morrisons, Tesco and Aldi about 5-8 minutes drive away.
The countryside is gorgeous and there are great local walks around Glastonbury itself. We have provided a few maps: OS maps can be found on the top right hand side of the kitchen shelf. Other maps are in the grey letter rack on the chest of drawers. Please return any maps/books after your walk.
The beautiful City of Wells - the smallest City in England is just a five mile drive away with its stunning Cathedral and Bishops Palace. You might even spot both of our children singing in the choir during Evensong! Enjoy wine and cheese at The Bishop’s Eye, brunch at Loaf or an evening meal at Root, Goodfellows or the Fountain. There is a Waitrose, Tesco and Lidl with bustling markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Street is our nearest town (4 miles). If you fancy a spot of retail therapy, Clark’s Village has over 90 outlet stores with discounted brand-name fashions and designer labels. There is also a selection of familiar High Street restaurants such as Bill’s, Wagamamas, Pizza Express and Slim Chickens. If you fancy a takeaway we recommend the Thai Elephant and the Golden House Chinese Restaurant.
The picturesque village of Pilton (7 miles) and home to the Glastonbury Festival has origins dating back to the first century, with a beautiful medieval church clinging to the hillside and fully restored fourteenth century Tithe barn. The village pub, The Crown, is wonderful. It’s closed on Monday but open every other day and serves good food. They do a brilliant pop up fish & chips van in the pub car park on a Tuesday with delicious vegetarian/vegan options too and the restaurant is open Wednesday to Sunday.
Shepton Mallet (9 miles) has a pretty market square, several cafés and an Art bank. There is a large Tesco in the Townsend shopping centre. The market is in town on Friday and there is a designer outlet at Kilver Court.
The surrounding villages boast lovely places to eat - The Lion at West Pennard, The Sheppey in Godney (one of our favourites). We like to cycle there as it’s completely flat and we can sample some of the local beer and cider.
A LITTLE FURTHER A FIELD:
The Three Horseshoes at Batcombe, the Talbot Inn in Mells, the Chapel in Bruton, the Roth Bar and Grill at Hauser and Wirth (great local art gallery & gardens to visit), The Newt (beautiful gardens too) and many more.
Nearby are the lovely towns of Bruton and Frome, an amazing flea market takes over the whole town on the first Sunday of every month. If you like cheese, visit Godminster Cheddar in Bruton, as well as the Frome Cheese Show every September.
We are 20 minutes away from the Bath and West show ground. The historic cities of Bath and Bristol are only 50 minutes drive away.
OTHER PLACES OF INTEREST:
Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge, climbing at Burrington Combe, Longleat, Stourhead, Barrington Court and Montacute House, to name but a few.
Hire bikes or walk a section of the nearby Strawberry Line that runs from the Mendips to the sea.
The Dorset Coast makes a great day trip (one hour & fifteen minutes drive) - Burton, Bradstock, Lyme Regis, West Bay.
There is river swimming nearby at pretty West Lydford and also at Farleigh Hungerford as well as an outdoor Lido in Street and Shepton Mallet.
