Comfortable home away from home

My family and I spent nine days at Tamarack and we felt right at home. The apartment is as comfortable as it looks in the photos. It is very clean with well maintained grounds. The apartment is furnished with everything you could possibly need in a house, especially the kitchen. We even had a cooler for us to take on our whole day trips. That was so convenient and thoughtful of Jane and Lulu. The closet is well stocked with lots of towels and bed linings and Lulu is always on call if you have a problem. We did not need to call her but she came to check on us to make sure everything was running smoothly. Even before our arrival we were provided with suggestions and directions to places of interest. Our transport from the airport was arranged for us and car rental was recommended. We did however have a bit of a problem with the mosquitoes [ no fault of the owners] and the have provided lots of vape mats and mosquito nets. Thank you Jane and Lulu for making our vacation a memorable one.

Modernes Apartment

Comfortable and excellent value for money!

My husband and I spent one amazing week at this property. We totally enjoyed our stay and we are definitely planning to book it again on our next vacation in Barbados. The apartment is well maintained, immaculate and tastefully furnished. An added bonus is that this property is located close to the sea. It was wonderful to take a stroll to the beach and just enjoy the lovely, shimmering blue Caribbean Sea. Thanks to Jane and Lulu, we had a memorable vacation.

Very breezy and low key.

Amenities matched the description. Very clean and well maintained. Open and breezy, definitely no A/C required. Beautiful view from top balcony. Nice beaches around more for the scenery than swimming, but the owner has plenty of suggestions for beaches / restaurants provided in the welcome package in the unit. Property manager came by to make sure things were going well.

Amazing and well stuffed apartment

Perfect house to lay back and relax with fair rates. Well stuffed and absolutely clean in a quiet area of Barbados. The local people are very firendly and helpful. You can find different beaches with almost private feeling or famous ones like Crane beach which is worldwide known as one of the best. Very good food (fresh fish of the day) at Marco Polo Bar & Grill opposite the Crane Hotel. The owner and the property manager are very kind and assist in every situation. I will come back asap. Peaceful, Enjoyable, Relaxing Vacation

My wife and I, stayed at Tamarack Lower for the whole of month of November. The quality of accomodation was very high, the location which is close to a peaceful serene beach was exactly what we were looking for. Any issues were dealt with promptly by the property manager. The sea near this coast can be a little rough in November, however the beaches are very isolated. The location is well suited for those looking for an authentic carribbean holiday whilst being able to drive or take a bus to the amenties on the South or West coasts. Being close to the Crane Hotel it was also easy to go for drinks, dinner etc when necessary. Overall a very enjoyable holiday and we would return again.

Wonderful home awy from home

The property is located in a quiet residential area and has all the amenities needed to enjoy your stay. Large open concept living area, excellent kitchen, huge breezy porch and adequately sized bedrooms and bathrooms. Very reasonably priced and ideal for cost sharing among 4 adults or 2 couples. Owner Jane was a pleasure to deal with and Lu, property manager, frequently checked to ensure we were happy. Rental car recommended although close to public transport. Great beaches not very far away. Friendly and helpful people were encountered throughout our stay. Only irritant were pesky mosquitoes so walk with your repellent. Overall wonderful experience and would highly recommend to family and friends.

Peaceful retreat, in cozy neighbourhood.

For the independent traveller, this apartment offers excellent value at a reasonable price. The communication with the owner was excellent and Lulu, the property manager, was super friendly and helpful. We really liked the information sheets provided by the owner about the apartment and its environment (restaurants and beaches nearby, where to buy food etc.) Lulu directed us to a nearby swimming hole called Shark's Hole, a really nice spot about 15 minutes away on foot. We had brought our snokeling gear and saw on another day several sea turtles at Worthing Beach and picked up some delicious and cheap tuna steaks at the Oistins fish market on the way back. I would also recommend driving up the East coast which is quite unspoiled and scenic. We really enjoyed our stay in Belair

Beautiful, clean, and spacious apartment.

By brother, my 5 year old son, and I stayed here for one week on the bottom floor apartment. The beauty and comfort of the apartment definitely added to our overall enjoyment of our stay in Barbados. Pros: Clean and well maintained and is nicely decorated. Spacious with two large bedrooms (one of them with two beds) and two full bathrooms. The kitchen/dining room/living room area is also spacious. Large covered front patio and large nicely landscaped front yard. Equipped with beach and bath towels, beach chairs, pots, plates, cutlery, etc Both the owner and manager are very friendly and helpful. The location itself is nice. It's in a nice quiet residential neighborhood and is also only a block from the beach. (The water is too rough to swim in at that particular beach though). Close to Crane Beach (a 20 minute walk if you walk fast) which is an incredibly gorgeous beach that is not too rough to swim in. By the way, if you go to Crane beach, jumping off the lowest ledge of the cliff into the water is a whole lot of fun! Only one con: If you don't rent a car and you plan on doing other things besides visiting the beach every day, then the location of the apartment is inconvenient. It's far out from many of the island's attractions and there are no grocery stores in walking distance (with the exception of a small convenience store). It is close to a bus stop but the bus only comes every hour (on the hour), is not always on time, only goes to Bridgetown, and takes at least 45 minutes to get there. If it were not for the inconvenience of the location without a car, I would give a 5 star rating instead of the 4 star. Overall, the quality you get with the apartment gives you excellent value for your money.

Nice place and reasonably priced for what you get

You can tell what a place is going to be like when the owner is very much on the ball with communicating with you from the offset. Everything we needed to know was answered by Jane beforehand extremely efficiently and professionally. The Property Manager Lulu was also extremely helpful, friendly and also a good point of contact during the stay. The place was nice and clean and had everything you require. Great balconies, breezy, great kitchen etc. Nice idea with the outside shower too. We didn't have a car at the beginning of our holiday, it can be quiet difficult to get around easily in the heat as the house is very much located in a residential area, even though the bus stop is approx 7 mins up the road. We did have a 2 year old with us and forgot our stroller! So, having a vehicle is advantageous as it is only a 10 min drive to/from the airport. There is no sea views from the house as it is blocked by the houses in the front nor is there a pool. We knew this to be the case beforehand, but still disappointing once you are there in the heat and beauty. However, I am sure this is reflected on the pricing of the apartments, so all in all we would still say that we got good value. The small beach 2 mins away is too rough to swim in but good to walk on. There is also a convenient store and bar near the bus stop. If all these things sound good then I would recommend Tamarack.

What a delight!

What a delight to arrive in paradise only to find that the bungalow we rented was as charming as the island itself. From the practicality of a fully equipped kitchen, washer & dryer, two very good size bedrooms, and two full baths, to a patio that almost doubled the interior common space that amplified the sound of the crashing ocean waves only one short block from the house. The authenticity of staying in a neighborhood with all the accomplished locals really added to the richness of the experience...something that tourists who stay in the resorts just don't get to experience. The highlight, by far, was the fact that we could walk to secluded beaches only two minutes from the house, complete with unbelievable rock cliffs and cave-like features...and all accessible with the stair access to these pockets of paradise. The convenience of The Crane Resort and the public access to Crane Beach with great waves, clear water, and no undercurrent (and the only east coast beach where you can swim because the other east coast beaches are too rough for swimming) was priceless. Hint: when you're at the beach, make sure to take advantage of the beach delivery service offered by Cutters ( www.cutters.bb )....best flying fish sandwich and rum punch on the island! Thanks Roger! To top it off, Jane was a gracious host, always available for matters around the house or "insider" advice on activities on the island. We couldn't have been happier with our choice of housing options. We will definitely be back!

Hidden gem in Barbados super close to beach

There are not enough words to describe our wonderful experience at Tamarack. Both the owner and property manager were extremely kind, attentive, and professional throughout our month long stay at the duplex. We traveled all the way from Oregon to Barbados with two young children and were thrilled with Tamarack's location (quiet upscale residential neighborhood, very friendly) and amenities were great (gourmet kitchen fully stocked, comfortable beds, plush towels, large flat screen tv, Wi-Fi, phone, etc) From lounging in the hammock to using the outdoor shower after the beach, Tamarack couldn't have met our needs better. Highly recommend renting a car to explore the island and bringing lots of snacks, coffee, toiletries, etc. as these items are expensive on Barbados. The best part is you may have green monkeys jumping from tree to tree looking for bananas as we did. Many thanks Jane and Lu, we will be back soon!

Great Holiday!

My husband and baby and I stayed here a week recently and we very much enjoyed it. The property manager was extremely helpful and prompt. For example when our kettle broke she had a new one waiting for us the same day when we got back to the apartment. The apartment is large enough for an entire family and the verandah is also very relaxing. The beaches nearby are beautiful and it is a short drive to either the west or east coasts. We would definitely recommend this holiday property to others!

Awesome apartment by the best beach in Barbados!

We recently stayed at Tamarack and thoroughly enjoyed the apartment and its location. It was really spacious, modern and clean and had all the luxuries and mod cons you could want. It was great to everything from wifi to laundry facilities, which made it feel like a home from home. It is in a residential area, so you definitely need a car, but it's right by the best beach on the island, Crane Beach, which is stunningly beautiful and great fun when the waves are big! There's a supermarket nearby and it's so easy to get around by car, we found the location was fine. It was nice and quiet and gave us a good taste of real Bajan living, away from the hustle and bustle of the west coast. Would throughly recommend this apartment to anyone considering it, Kate & Olie

Beautiful, spacious, airy and safe!

This apartment was the most luxurious stay I ever had for this money. I was in the process to move into my own house (in the same neighborhood), but the construction was delayed and I needed to accomodate my guests. We were really lucky to find a vacancy in that particular week. I absolutely loved the space, the comfort and layout. The kitchen is huge and the wide front door opens to the terrace that became our second living room. There is no need for air-condition. The breeze is always there. I never even had to turn on the ceiling fan. Every morning I took a swim at the beach, that is almost in front of the house. The waves could be rough at times, so I would not recommend for everyone. Jane and Belinda are the sweetest ladies I have met on the island. I would recommend this rental to everyone. Thank you!

Lovely place to stay

We enjoyed our stay very much in this property. The apartment is located in beautiful surroundings. The rooms are spaceous and clean. The gardens are lovely and the property is in walking distance to the beach. This is an ideal place to spend your vacation. The property managers are friendly and made us feel at home and comfortable. We stayed in the upper level which gave us a good view of the area and we enjoyed the ocean breezes is the evenings. We highly recommend this property when you are looking for a place to stay in Barbados.

what value for money

This is my second time visiting Tamarack. This property offers such value for money. It has everything. So close to local beaches, just a stroll away. A short walk from the bus stop and local store. The neighborhood is safe and friendly. The property contains everything one needs for a stay. The kitchen is so well stocked. It's the best i've seen in a vacation property. It has everything. I loved the breeze that blows in Bellair.... it's very welcomed. Jane and Belinda ensure that everything is taken care of, both are very friendly. Thx Jane

Fantastic Time at Tamarack

Just returned from a fantastic stay at Tamarack in Barbados! We were attending a wedding right on the same street as this apartment so we were very lucky to obtain such wonderful accommodations. The owners of this rental are super nice and very very helpful. They made the booking and our stay very smooth and enjoyable indeed. Every single thing it promises....this property delivers! It is in a wonderful location with just a short walk to the water. It is in a very safe area with many lovely homes in the immediate vicinity too. We rented a car at the airport and it is only about 10 minutes to a well stocked grocery store. This apartment/villa is absolutely beautiful with high end finishings......we were VERY pleased. Although no central air, there are new ceiling fans in each room and floor fans as well.....all of these helped to cool us down! It is extremely spacious and has all amenities you could possibly need. It is SPOTLESS and very well cared for. Lawn care is well maintained too and there are plenty of tables and chairs on the front porch area for your enjoyment. If you are looking for a fantastic place to stay in the Bel Air area of Barbados...we HIGHLY recommend this rental. As we said, the owners are wonderful and made our stay a BREEZE!!!

Ready for our next stay at Tamarack

We had a wonderful time at Tamarack. We stayed for two weeks, but definitely needed at least four. Several mornings, we walked literally one minute over to the beach and watched the sun rise. We walked a little further down and let the children enjoy the calmer water. We have already recommended Tamarack to family and friends considering a vacation in Barbados. The property was very clean, fresh, and looked to be new. The layout was ideal for us - myself, my wife, two children (2,4) and mother-in law - and quite comfortable. The full kitchen (we cooked A LOT) was very helpful and the washer/dryer more than nice. There were plenty of fans to help keep the children cool even if we had the windows closed. We closed the windows at dusk to try to avoid the local mosquitoes. Mosquito repellent devices were available in each bedroom. However, we still brought lots of spray repellant, botanical repellent wipes, and various other household repellent solutions (in our checked bags) and were happy we did so. Screens aren't as common on the island as they are in the US or Canada (we heard it limits the ocean breeze), so you can expect plenty of buzzing around. We saw very FEW bugs in or around the property - which was nice. From what we understand, the owner has the area treated regularly. Renting a car is ideal but not required. We rented a car for part of our stay and explored bus routes on the other. Both were quite eventful. Jane (owner) was very responsive and gave us lots of good resources and information before and during our stay. The front area of the apartment is almost completely enclosed so we were able to sit on the porch and watch the children play. The people at the daycare nearby are VERY nice. Use the LOCAL cell phone (digital). Place your phone on airplane before you even LEAVE your country of origin. Bring your GPS (make sure it is updated) or rent one locally - getting directions is more comical than it is helpful - but most people are still nice enough to try to help. Oiston's on Friday night appears to be the place to be for a night out on the town. It's also a great place to get fresh flying fish (to cook at home). Don't bother trying to buy American or European ice cream while on the island and bring as much of your own food as possible to cut down on the sticker shock in the grocery store. It was an excellent trip. We hope we can manage to make it something we do annually. Paul and Leslie

Charming Home Away from Home

Our family rented this home for 3 weeks April/12. Everything was as described. The photo's were accurate and the property was very clean & well maintained. The beds were comfortable, enough towels & sheets etc... and everything was included in the well thought kitchen. The little extra's were nice! A cooler bag, beach towels, ice trays. The owner is awesome! We had excellent communication throughout the entire process. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking for a Barbados vacation rental. There is a reliable bus route nearby but I would recommend a rental vehicle. We rented a small jeep and had a self directed vacation at our own pace. We explored the many roads all over the island visiting every parish at least twice, stopping at the fruit stands, the fish/chicken fry places, taking in the attractions, wonderful beaches and best of all we met some of the nicest people anywhere! Barbados is a "go again" for us and if this home is available when that time comes, I would rent again and highly recommend it!

A MUST....to stay here

My family and i are seasoned travelers, however this is one of the best homes we have ever vacationed in. It has the best equipped kitchen ever. The description was perfect. The home clean and quiet. The location was awesome, with fantastic sea breezes, both daytime and night. We were cool at all times. It was not far from the airport at all, close to beaches, and only a stroll to the store. Local fish cakes at the weekend.... a must.... Great friendly owner who wanted to ensure all was A OK at all times. I would not hesitate to recommend this property as a rental. I look forward to returning to vacationing there again.

wonderful stay

My husband and one year old son stayed here for 6 days. it was awesome! it takes some doing to navigate your way around the island. but after checking out the west and south sides we were quite pleased to have chosen to stay on the east coast. it's a bit of a drive or (fantastically adventurous) bus ride to and from most places. but the neighborhood is quiet and VERY friendly. a wonderful get away from the touristy hustle and bustle. and though the beach close by is too dangerous to swim in, it is quite private and the view is fantastic. perfect for sunning or just staring at the ocean.

Wonderful time at Tamarack

Just returned from approx 2 weeks at Tamarack with friends from Europe, some of whom visited Barbados for the first time. All had a terrific time and praise for the apartment. Tamarack was wonderful, clean and with all kitchen amenities and cutlery that allowed for easy cooking at home, also made easy by having a great supermarket at Emerald City, only a short drive away. Tamarack offers plenty towels, pillows and comfortable beds, as well as two tables with more than enough chairs on the patio. The dishwasher was an added bonus, reducing cleaning time in the kitchen. Having spent previous vacations in Barbados in St. Lawrence gap, Bridgetown and Holetown, i missed the closeness of restaurants and entertainment but that was offset by tranquility, sleeping to the sound of waves and wind, and a lovely patio to relax, have breakfast and enjoy outdoor dinners. Staying at Tamarack requires a car to get around but know that Stoutes delivers great service, including a guide who led me from the airport to Tamarack upon my arrival late at night. In addition to day trips mentioned in previous reviews, such a St Nicholas Abbey and the Friday night fishfry at Oistins, I recommend the Barbados Blue shipwreck and turtle snorkel trip from the Hilton in Carlisle Bay, dinner at Cafe Luna just outside Oistins and a day to Carib or Worthing beach where you can swim with turtles right off the beach. Afternoon rum coctails at Cutters after a day at Crane beach also makes for a perfectly relaxing vacation. We will definitey return to Tamarack on future trips to this wonderful island.

Lovely New Apartment in the Tradewinds.

We just spent 2 weeks in this lovely new apartment and couldn't have asked for better. The house was spacious, spotless, was well appointed in decor. It had a laundry which was convenient and the kitchen comes with a full gas range & separate full oven. As a diabetic, the fully modern kitchen allowed us to control my diet & was simply a pleasure to cooking in as well. The bedrooms were spacious, cooled by the sea breezes and open to the sounds of the sea. For those demanding Air Conditioning, it comes naturally here, not out of a machine. We use internet to stay connected with family & it was available as WiFi. Jane also connected us to Stoutes Car Rental and assisted us in obtaining a vehicle for the 2 weeks at an excellent price. This we used extensively to explore the maze which is the Barbados highway system. The apartment is well located in Belair, near 6 Crossroads, close to shopping and central for travel & exploring the island & with a small, pleasant sand beach 2 blocks away for tanning. Brighton Farmers Market on Saturday was also near & worth a shopping expedition. From 6 Crossroads(~10 minutes away): Hwy 4 takes you directly to FourSquare Rum, Oistens (Fishfry), St. Lawrence Gap & Bridgetown, Hwy 5 takes you west to the main freeway up the west coast to Holetown, Spieghtstown & North Point or east to explore the rugged beauty & beaches, of the east coast, Codrington College & Bathsheba. Another secondary road leads north to Sunbury Plantation & the South Branch to the Crane Beach & Hotel & to the airport & the Concorde Experience. Crane Hotel proved to be a convenient pick-up location for our Cool Runnings Cruise.. We were fortunate enough to meet most of the family and found them very amicable & helpful in suggesting sites to tour. Their recommendations to visit Huntes Gardens and St. Nicholas Abbey were spot on. Along with these and the already mentioned above, we also found Orchid World, Gun Hill, the Wildlife Reserve, the changing of the Sentry @ the Garrison & George Washington House to be well worth a visit. Between Jane & Stoute's, Bajan Roots and Rhythms was recommended and was well worth seeing. All this was never too far away, with some planning & map reading, from this convenient location. In summary, we spent a very pleasant, busy but relaxing 2 weeks at this home & would have no reservation in recommending this property to anyone. Thanks to Jane, Ballinda and family, for a wonderful stay.

We felt very 'at home' as soon as we arrived at the Tamarack. It is spacious, modern, clean and comfortable. The two large bedrooms and two bathrooms are perfect for two couples or extended family to share with plenty of privacy and lots of storage space. For us, the two highlights were the amazingly well equipped kitchen (best we have ever seen) and the large verandah. When at home we spent about 80% of our time out on the verandah - perfect for morning coffee, afternoon drinks and meals. The verandah is equipped with very comfortable chairs and we even noticed hooks for a hammock, and we were lucky enough to borrow one from a neighbour! We also really enjoyed and appreciated the constant cooling breezes coming off the ocean that moved throughout the house and kept us very comfortable both day and night. The area is very quiet and residential. We do recommend renting a car to get to many of the area highlights including: - Emerald City grocery store (7min) perfect for picking up all necessities and to check out local products and produce. - Shark's Hole (3min) for a swim you will never forget - Crane Resort (5min) a bit of attitude at the gate, but once you are in it is a spectacular place for lunch and a bit of shopping - Chinese Restaurant (5min) if you get tired of the local cuisine - Cutter's (10 min) for hamburgers, deli, and must-try rum punch (available in convenient bottles to go). - 2 minute walk to a beautiful isolated beach - too rough for swimming but beautiful view and breezes. - only 20 minutes to the airport Overall we had a wonderful holiday in Barbados - a big part of that was how comfortable we were in our "home away from home" the Tamarack.
