About this property
AEGINA - Large Beautiful Mountain Top Villa
This is a family home on top of a mountain in the neighborhood of Vroheia, a well established area on the island. The street is unnamed but it is easy to find. The views are extraordinary. Our home is beautifully maintained. My grandfather owned the land and broke it into 5 parcels for each of his children. My father and mother accepted the parcel and built their home over a twenty year period. Every summer they would come to Aegina for 2.5 months. They would always do something to enhance the property (tile work, marble stairs, etc). During the year they enjoyed planning what they would do to the home the following summer. It was a true labor of their love.
There are eight olive trees, one lemon tree and one pistachio tree on the property.
You will wake up every day with a strong sun and a beautiful view of Moni (an uninhabited island worth exploring) and Perdika a nearby fishing village where you can eat very fresh seafood just brought into the restaurant by a local fisherman.
My childhood memories of my visits to this island are extremely valuable to me. I return every year and get the property ready for my family to use. This summer I am renting the Villa. I am coming in February and March to relax and enjoy our home.
The other four parcels were also built up by my uncles and aunts and our home sits among their homes. They are very loving and do no infringe on your privacy.
You will go into town by bus or rented scooter (found to be reasonably priced in town - definitely negotiate) and you will buy fresh fruit, fish, meat, eggs & bread. There are several bakeries and you must try them all. There is a Souvlaki place in the middle of town a must try. The best Souvlaki in the world. Fruit can be purchased at the pier. Several boats are stocked with fruit and the peddle it right from their boats.
If you search you can find shops that sell hand made linen from local women. Its like buying a work of art. Good luck searching and be careful not to buy machine made products.
The neighborhood beach is a 15 minute walk down the mountain.
You can get by quite well with the bus and walking. Its just beautiful, especially if you rent for 3 months. You will not be in a hurry for anything, you will be relaxing, hopefully you know how. I used to go into town by donkey in the 60's. You don't see many people traveling that way, a few yes.
There are a few supermarkets, drug stores and many hardware stores.
I can't express how much I love this island and the people.
I also have a great General Contractor that can help if there are any problems.
There is a washing machine, but you have to hang your cloths to dry. Its quite refreshing and not a bother.
I may, from time to time, edit this description to give better information. I am available by email if you want to ask additional questions.

About the host
Hosted by Liz Athineos - The Bike Shack Owner

This was the summer home for my family, built by my father & mother. We are not using the home this summer and we want it to be used by people who want to enjoy the easy Island living of Aegina. I'm a relaxer and I love our home. It has many memories and I look forward to renting our home during the summer to people who intend to make more enjoyable memories. I am here in Aegina with my mom during the pandemic. I made many improvements to our home. The biggest improvement was converting from 1 phase to 3 phase electricity. I installed beautiful flagstone all around the property and a new irrigation system so the garden could be fully enjoyed. I added a pistachio & lemon tree among the eight olive trees. I grew the best tomatoes ever. We even have a grape vine that was taken from my grandmother's grape farm which was located in the middle of the Island.
Why they chose this property
Although my father & brother are gone we are keeping the property forever. It was designed by my father and holds special meaning for us. The owner photo I furnished is of my brother's wedding in Greece. My parents on on the left, my brother is the tall handsome guy in the middle. I'm all the way on the right. He leaves his wife and she is in the middle. Her mom is to her left. They had two children. I too have 2 children. We all love Aegina and our family home. This property is a symbol of love and care for our friends & family.
What makes this property unique
The views are enormous and breath taking every day even in the winter. I wished I lived here all year round and hope to make that dream come true within a few years. I come during the winter for almost 2 months. I am always surprised to find how busy the Island is in January & February. Right now I am in a local Cafe writing this information and watching soccer with many of the townspeople.
