About this property

The Signal Box, Melton Constable, Norfolk

Enjoy a holiday with a difference and stay in this beautifully converted Edwardian Norfolk signal box, located in the rural village of Melton Constable. A romantic bolt hole for two, this hideaway has been beautifully restored to offer modern comforts blended with charming original features.

Set amidst the landscaped grounds of the owner's home and surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside,The Signal Box has 'upside down' accommodation with an open-plan living space on the upper floor to take full advantage of the wonderful rural views from the tall windows that fold around on three sides. Unique accomodation

My wife & I stayed in the Signal Box 27 - 31 December following a busy Christmas. If you're looking for a reasonably remote (the owners live nearby), rural retreat in a converted signal box, then this is for you. Cosy, without being cramped, the living accommodation on the first floor offers great views, whilst the ground floor en-suite bedroom, is furnished to a high standard. if you're willing to walk for 2.5 miles (approx. 1 hour), there is a decent pub called the Three Horseshoes, offering good food in the village of Briston. further afield is the great town of Holt along with coastal areas such as Blakeney. We had a most enjoyable stay and would recommend for couples looking to escape for a few days.

Quirky and quiet

Very well appointed and good space for two people. Great walks and nicely located for the coast and Market towns. Fantastic local butchers and good Sunday lunch at the three horseshoes. Our 12 yr old Lhasa Apso had to be carried up the stairs but fine coming down! Definitely recommend, owners close but not intrusive.

Super accommodation and location to celebrate a train enthusiast's big birthday weekend!

We had a fantastic weekend in a very comfortable and well equipped signal box! Superb location and away from it all feel to the whole weekend left us relaxed and refreshed. A super comfortable bed and very good shower (plenty of hot water) plus lovely surroundings made for a weekend of bliss!

Gosh!

What a delightful place. Aided by wonderful weather, we had a lovely time. Walking the coastal paths, bird watching and getting blasted by the wind it was a treat to return to this warm cubbyhole with its panoramic views and super facilities. It has been beautifullly converted with great respect to its heritage & is well equipped.

We loved our stay at the Signal Box – February 2020

We really enjoyed our few days at the Signal Box – it was the perfect place to retreat to in the evenings after our days out exploring Norfolk. It is located in a peaceful village – but is close enough (by car) to the coast and other lovely places Norfolk has to offer. We cooked most nights at the Signal Box – all amenities/utensils provided, everything was easy to find and use. We would definitely like to visit again and would also recommend the Signal Box to anyone wanting to stay in something a little bit different but that are also looking for a little bit of comfort too.

Superb Spot

Great place to relax with an abundance of wildlife on the doorstep. Superbly appointed the signal box is situated in an ideal location to explore the lovely local area. We would recommend a stay here and would love to return ourselves. The only thing I would mention is that the online photos are out of date and the site also mentions that there is a wood burning stove and some kindling and wood is supplied to start then more can be purchased locally. After taking wood with us, this turned out to be incorrect as the stove is gas. Not a problem but needs a bit of an update. All in all a super break.

A wonderful place

The Signal box is a beautifully converted railway signal box. We had a very relaxing long weekend here. Everything is very comfortable and well thought out. It's in a great location if you want to go out and about. There are also great walks if you prefer not to go anywhere. We loved it there and would definitely like to go back.

A Great Place to Stay

We booked a week at The Signal Box in mid-June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was small but comfortable for 2 people and lived up to the photographs on Norfolk Hideways website. The setting was lovely, situated at the end of the owner's garden and backing on to woodland. It was very quiet at night and the bed was very comfortable. The owner left Ordnance Survey maps and leaflets for ideas on places to visit and we added to them before we left. The position was ideal for covering any destination on the north Norfolk coast, whether you wanted a beach, railway excursion, or a country house visit. Also, there was an interesting photo album showing how the Signal Box was moved to the site and renovated into the holiday home it has become. A brilliant use of a building that could have been lost.

Superb peaceful location

A great week at the Signal Box, peaceful location mainly surrounded by woodland. Quiet and comfortable, a good Base for the Norfolk coast and the Broads. We would definitely stay again

A Fabulous Place in the Country

Spent a glorious week in The Signal Box, the owners were on hand if we needed anything, they were friendly but not at all intrusive of our holiday. It is a great place to stay with a dog, beautiful walks right on your doorstep. The local area is just stunning, we fell in love with North Norfolk, everyone we met was so friendly and welcoming, The Signal Box had lots of brochures on things to do and a folder with local pubs, beaches and restaurants, so you felt like a local almost immediately! I would definitely recommend this place.

Quirky hideaway

Ideally situated for visiting N Norfolk this hideaway is top notch. Very comfortable accommodation in a lovely setting. Only minor drawback is that with so many windows it can get very hot upstairs! Can definitely recommend as a lovely bolt hole for winding down and re charging the batteries.

The Signal Box Norfolk.

The Signal Box is a true Norfolk Hideaway. If you want peace and tranquility away from all the stress of modern day life this is the place to go. We found this beautiful hideaway with a Google search and as soon as we saw it we knew this is where we wanted to stay and we could take our 2 Fox Terrier dogs with us. We booked for a week and the people at Norfolk Hideaways couldn't have been more helpful. The Signal Box is set on the edge of farm where all the out building's have been developed into dwellings. The surrounding countryside is quiet and beautiful with plenty of walks and foot paths to explore in the immediate area. It is also very central for visiting the coast and numerous National Trust sites. Holt is only 15 minutes drive and Wells-Next-To-The-Sea only about 40 minutes drive. The Signal Box itself has been sympathetically restored to it's former glory on the outside with all the requirements of modern living on the inside. The living/kitchen area is upstairs and there are superb views of the surrounding countryside through the 3 sides of glass. The downstairs bedroom is extremely well appointed, has a modern shower room with plenty of room to move about and plenty of storage. Our stay at the Signal Box was extremely pleasant and very relaxing. If we had a complaint it would be a week's stay was not long enough in this comfortable and tranquil little corner of Norfolk. Thank you to the owners Chris and Polly for their hospitality.

An interesting quirky location - but you need to be quite fit!

A splendid location, and a very interesting "house" in which to stay. The owners did plenty to make us feel welcome. It may perhaps need to be highlighted that the accommodation is not very suitable for the less agile - in particular step steps to get down to the bedroom. And we would prefer something more solid than a curtain between bedroom and bathroom!

Get away from it all in comfort

The Signal box is small but perfectly formed. Comfortable and wall equipped. Suitable for our small dog but I think large dogs may be a bit too much. Only slight negative is stairs down to the bedroom are tricky and would be a problem for less mobile people. Beautiful spot surrounded by fields and woodland. Very helpful friendly owners nearby. We will be back!
