6 nights@ Mayfair Hotel

Mayfair was one of the official hotels of the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Competition. The official travel agent said no more rooms available but I tried Expedia & got a booking! Reception friendly & helpful. Staff in the Dining Room reminded me of Fawlty Towers. LOL. The continental breakfast was buffet style. Coffee/tea & cooked breakfast you order & they serve you at your table. Dinner - a different fixed menu every day .. which is on their website. Food quality canteen style. Our room on the 3rd floor was small (I think they all are) but clean, quiet with all the amenities we needed. Toilet paper was like cardboard. The free wifi in reception - only 12 connections at a time so if you want a connection, go early.

Great Location.

Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was very tasty. Bathroom was very clean. Room was a bit outdated but perfectly fine to stay.

Room was very nice and spacious. Breakfast was whatever you wanted eg Full English; kippers; scrambled egg; cereals; fruit; ham/cheese as much as you wanted.We were only B&B and did find it hard to book dinner because it was so busy! Spa was excellent, pool; sauna and jacuzzi. Great shame this hotel is closing for good on the 31st October to be knocked down and rebuilt for apartments!!

Nice hotel with friendly staff

I and my family enjoyed our stay at the Mayfair hotel. Whilst some parts of the hotel felt a little dated and in need of a freshen up it did not detract from my trip - it actually added to the nostalgia of it. :) The staff were friendly and happy to help out when needed. The hotel was busy which is always a good sign of things.

I believe that the hotel will be converted to flats next year which probably explains the lack of investment in carpets and furnishings. The dining arrangements reminded me of school dinners and the night porters were no use when we were checking out deferring to day time staff.

The property is very dated and lacking in facilities. The rooms are very old fashioned and boiling hot as no air con. This is more of an elderly people’s hotel- it is not suitable for families with young children. No atmosphere at all- it was like sitting around in a care home in the evenings. Staff customer service is terrible. We complained about an evening meal which was inedible and the extremely rude staff member said “not my fault, I’m not the cook”! Never experienced customer service like it. Would definitely not recommend or return

We liked the room, good size and clean. The bathroom was a good size and clean but when you turned the light on the exterior was very noisy. The swimming pool was nice but small and was on the cold side. The steam room was out of order for duration of our stay.
