"What we have here is failure to communicate."

No one there to check us in. There were two cabins to choose from, and we picked one. After I texted her, she indicated that I would have to move into the other unit because someone else was coming for the first unit. I did so, and then the lock wouldn't work properly, so she indicated that I should move back into the original unit. No one else ever came, which was fine. A written note on each door would have prevented this entire fiasco.

Husband and I come here to get away from the busy rat race,i work from home and the yearling is about a 20 minute drive. We have dinner at the restaurant they have the best food. I always get a steak and my husband gets something different each time we go. Afterward we sit by the creek and then to the cabin to eat popcorn and watch t.v.

Great time away

I would recommend these cabins for anyone wantimg to get a peaceful quiet getaway. Not fancy, and not too rustic. Comfy and cozy. The restaurant next door has good food and friendly service. Nice place!!

Experience the backwoods of Florida

The hotel and restaurant are wonderful. The location is remote so cell phones have a hard time but the rooms have TVs and WiFi. The Restaurant is amazing lots of history the menu includes some great southern food, Free Range Venison with hunter sauce is one of my favs. The location is beside Cross Creek a location to sit and watch a sunset before going to the bar. Be sure to look in the library it is something lots of books, stuffed animals and a canoe. This is a piece of history.

The Yearling Cabins

We stayed here 10/4/24. This cabin was a lovely step into the past. It was VERY clean and quaint. Bed and bedding was super comfortable. Bathroom has original tile which is in great shape and super clean. Little kitchenette has enough for two and is very clean. Small table with 2 chairs and one recliner. A/C worked great and cooled the whole cabin. One cabin is half of the structure, so if you wanted connecting rooms it could be available. The property is beautiful. We did not eat at the restaurant. Can’t wait to stay again!

Our 2 night stay was a huge disappointment. We've stayed at 2 other fish camps and this was the worst. The screen door to the patio was broken. Someone had failed in an attempt to rig it in order to shut. The little proch itself needed a good sweeping. The room was cute, but the bed is impossibly high for an old, short, overweight woman. We removed the 3 inch foam padding so I was able to crawl onto the bed. (with an injured knee. I fell on the property) While there was a coffee maker, microwave and small refrigerator there was no place to sit and put a cup or glass or plate down. Unless you pulled a chair over to the TV table. The other option was to stand at the dresser or hold your cup and balance a plate on your lap. The ice bucket had water and black marks in it. I cleaned it, but wouldn't use it. Ours was a cabin with an adjoining room. That would not have been a problem, but the person who checked in had a dog who was alone and whined for hours. The same rate was charged for that cabin as for cabins larger and better equipped. I suggest the rate be lowered for it. I am truly disappointed. We chose The Yearling for the location. That was the good thing about it. We plan on returning to the area, but unless we are offered a free cabin we'll find another place to stay. Oh...the restaurant is quaint and the food is quite good. The only plus.

There is a canal off of Cross Creek that allowed us to dock our boat and leave from there to go fish in Orange lake.

Rustic and so much fun

We enjoyed our stay and especially enjoyed dinner at the yearling restaurant. Our rooms were ready, clean and comfortable. They were exactly as pictured. The best air conditioning ever!

Feces in toilet bowl and urine with toilet paper in there too. The manager was great at communicating but it’s unacceptable. She said the cleaning lady has a son that likes to urinate in the bathrooms when she is cleaning. Does that make sense? I can say a lot of things. Also, the frogs are super loud so if you are okay with that, it can be pretty quaint. I did like the vintage decor, but the bathroom things made me go to a hotel. Manager was going to switch our cabins, but I just cannot after that. Very affordable though! I would recommend for that. What gets me though…. I guess the cleaning lady didn’t get spoken to in the past about her kid. Why is he in the room while she is cleaning??? Nope.
