Always a delight to stay here. Everything runs like clockwork from the service to the quality and upkeep of the rooms and gardens and excellent restaurant. This is how a hotel should be run. Every detail is thought of and implemented and the staff exceptionally well trained to provide a top rate service.
Beautiful location. Traditional with a modern twist. Great food, good ales, friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Lovely garden area for lunch or early evenings drinks. Well appointed rooms, comfy beds and clean bathrooms.
However, because of its age there are a number of stairs in the main building and low ceilings and many rooms are located in cottages away from the main building. Umbrellas are provided but might be a factor to consider if weather very cold or wet.
Lots of history and a good central location for acccess to cities, historic sites & NT properties in the area plus good walking & cycling routes.
Beautiful place to stay! Only issue was that our room (Puddingthorn) was right at the bottom of the stairs and I was unfortunately kept awake by hearing people go up and down the stairs as well as the people in the bedroom above us.
My second stay here in this little gem. Had more time on this visit to do some beautiful walks on the nearby moors. Hotel offers wonderful warm service, great food, charming rooms well maintained and an idyllic location. Many times better than some 5 star hotels! Don’t hesitate - it’s a truly special place.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The staff were efficient and friendly. The room was excellent and the hotel is located in a small village with beautiful surroundings and scenery. An ideal place for a get away from it all weekend.
Excellent setting with really friendly staff who were prepared to go "the extra mile" to ensure customer satisfaction. Food very good, room comfortable, although being a old building ,you can expect a few "bangs, rattles, & creaks".
