About this property

One of a Kind Cabin Located Within Grand Teton National Park

Our cabin has a spectacular location, directly in front of the Grand Teton peaks. A rare National Park in-holding, the cabin is on the border of Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest, looking out over the Park and offering superb hiking out the back door.

The cabin is located on Shadow Mountain, so named because the Grand Teton casts its shadow on this exact spot when the sun sets behind the mountains. This is the place for viewing gorgeous mountain sunsets, each one unlike any other, with rays of light beaming off the peaks for just a few moments before the starlit evening descends.

The cabin is set in a 1-acre open meadow filled with wildflowers in the summer. It is away from other homes, but it doesn’t feel remote. It is a quick 10-minute drive – or a lovely bike ride – down to the National Park entrance and Dornan’s grocery store, restaurants and legendary wine shop. There is a warm springs nearby where children chase tiny minnows with their nets while their parents practice kayak rolls. Herds of bisonand antelope roam on the flats below the cabin. It is a 25-minute drive to the town of Jackson, where there is much to explore and enjoy. It is about a one-hour leisurely drive to the south entrance of Yellowstone National Park, where we recommend you plan to spend the night to allow enough time to explore the world’s first national park.

Our cabin is a restful and refreshing oasis set in “America’s Serengeti”. Families often come back to the cabin year after year, making it their second home in the Tetons.

What We Offer
• A simple, comfortable cedar log cabin with a master bedroom, a small bunk-bed room, a comfortable living room/dining room/kitchen area and a small bath with tub and shower

• 100% homelike atmosphere, not at all a hotel room or rental condo. A family retreat and favorite-place-in-the-world ambiance

• delicious well water, probably best-tasting water on the planet

• outside deck and outside picnic area with BBQ grill

• piano and keyboards, lots of good books, fireplace and firewood

What We Don’t Offer

Shopworn Cabin - Million Dollar View

First of all, let me say that the location and view of this cabin is exceptional! A view of the Gread Tetons from the front living room area is breathtaking - you can watch the sun go down or the sunrise hit the peaks in the morning! We appreciated the quiet after being around so many people in thepark during the day. The cabin itself was built about 50 years ago from a kit (as noted in the book in the cabin). The living space has a wood burning stove - which is wonderful! We prepared the night before so we could enjoy the fire with coffee in the morning. The rest of the cabin is VERY shopworn. There have been few if any upgrades whatsoever. We love rustic and have no problem with that up to a point. In this case, our most concerning feature was the electric outlets. Most of all the small kitchen appliances and lamps in the cabin are plugged into the outlets using extension cords with expansion heads, ie three plugs per outlet plug. If you want to use the toaster - you need to unplug something else. Additionally, there are no smoke alarms! All food not in the frig needs to be stored in coolers to protect it from mice. (I could hear them under the floor in the master bedroom at night) The linens are clean - but very old. There is "stuff" in EVERY corner of the cabin because this has been a family cabin for years. That leaves less space for guest items brought in. This cabin needs an overall electrical upgrade to code and smoke alarms at a minimum!

Amazing views

This is a real log cabin in the woods. The cabin is rich in family history. Not a lot of modern amenities, back to the 60's. very comfortable feel, with large windows and a view of the Tetons. the full moon lit up the Tetons and watching the sun light up the Tetons at sun rise was amazing. The outdoor areas and wildflowers add to the experience. It is located in Grand Teton NP so access to the park is very easy, close to Jackson and Yellowstone. The National Wildlife Art Museum was a great find. I would absolutely book again.

Lots of Character

This is a one-of-a-kind property. It definitely is "rough around the edges" and not for everyone, but we really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful setting and very convenient location.

Sleepless in Wyoming

The cabin is in a beautiful location. I took some wonderful photos of the Tetons while at the cabin. There is absolutely no Wi-Fi and cell service is extremely limited. This makes it difficult to plan for outings. The electrical wiring was scary. Everything seemed to be daisy chained together with extension cords and exposed wires. There was no smoke detector that I could see. The one bed is a double which was not quite adequate for my husband and I. I slept on the bunkbed, but soon realized that it had a lounge chair cushion not a twin size mattress. I finally slept a little bit on the sofa. In my opinion this cabin is overpriced. With taxes and fees, it cost roughly $500 a night.

The most dreamy cabin in the woods

We had the most incredible time away in the Tetons, and this cabin was the icing on top. Equipped with everything you may need, it is cozy, inviting, and has the most gorgeous picturesque view of the woods with the Teton mountains in the backdrop. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking to adventure. 10/10!

Great stay in the Tetons!

This was the perfect mountain getaway- just a short drive from the park entrance. We were impressed with how well stocked the cabin was. Also some great wildlife viewing right outside the cabin’s picture window. Could not ask for more!

Great cabin in the woods

This was a wonderful small cabin in the woods on a dirt road. It had views of the Tetons from the living room window and we were visited by some elk one morning. The cabin has no wifi and cell access is limited. The cabin is well stocked and is full of memorabilia from the owners travels. There is even a piano that is in remarkably good tune. We loved staying here but it is not for everybody. It is rustic and not the kind of nicely redone modern place most people are used to. It is close to the Mormon historical area and (just have to get a bit cosy) The other bedroom is more like a bunk room with bunk beds. Our granddaughters stayed with us one night (5 and 7). They loved it. I don't think we could have found a better place to stay.

Grand Teton cabin

This rustic cabin is in the woods, overlooking Grant Teton. It has an observation deck on the property, grill, refrigerator, coffee maker. Bring charcoal and lighter fluid for the grill. It is a quiet, relaxing spot and exactly as in the pictures.

Super cool and rustic

Such a fun place - very rustic with lots of history. We loved being able to have a fire outside, cook at home and take in the view. Nice hot water and kitchen had everything we needed. Bed could use an upgrade but other than that - such a cool place , I’d love to stay there again! Location is ideal - in the park and so close to Moose!

Unreal location, cozy family cabin

- Location is amazing, just up the road from Morman Row (great sunrise spot) - Favorite spot was the rocking chair in the cabin, view of the tetons never gets old - Piano, handwritten notes, old artwork, books made it clear this was a cabin that has some authentic family history - We are a family of 5 so it def is a smaller set up - as described - hot tip the fold out bed may be the most comfortable of them all - Hiked Cascade Canyon (took the boat), went to Tribe church/ate/shopped in Jackson, hiked Taggert, saw some wildlife - highlights - Missed a stove, bathroom felt like it could be updated a bit, but overall the place was very clean and as advertised - Owner was very responsive and helpful Thanks for sharing your place with our family

An Incredible Mountain Hideaway

We came to the Tetons to raft and climb. This cabin was the perfect place to recover after an adventurous day. The pictures really do not do it justice. The view from the main window is a spectacular framing of the central Teton range. The property has a very private and remote feeling despite being very accessible to the park and Jackson. It has a rustic, lived-in feel. If you are someone that camps, loved the outdoors, but want a bed, kitchen, and bathroom, this is the perfect cabin for you. Whatever it lacks in luxury it more than makes up for in character and spirit.

Spectacular Views and a Home Away from Home

We could not have asked for a more perfect cabin for our Grand Teton National Park vacation. The cabin has the most incredible views of the Tetons. We spent a lot of time enjoying the spectacular views of the mountains and of the trees surrounding the cabin - from both the living room and the outdoor deck and picnic table areas. It was such a peaceful way to enjoy nature, as we were away from all the people at the lodges inside the Park. It was quiet enough that we saw mule deer several times. The cabin itself was cozy and welcoming. After each hike or rafting trip, it felt like we were coming home every day. The cabin has so many interesting things in it - there are books about people and places in the area, animal and plant field guides, binoculars you can borrow, and even a piano. My favorite was all of the mementos and historic maps that I think are from the host’s own family. We cooked in the kitchen every day. As a host, Candra was fantastic. Everything in the cabin was very clean and well-stocked - toilet paper, bath towels, dish soap, cooking supplies, extra blankets, everything we needed. She texted to make sure everything was ok, and even checked up and offered to send us items she thought we had left behind. Our stay here was perfect - everything we needed to help us disconnect, enjoy nature, and enjoy being together as a family.

Truly amazing

This place is better than the photos. You’ll feel remote but not totally isolated. The cabin is so homey and has an incredible view of the mountains. My husband and I stayed in the comfortable bedroom while we put our 14 month old’s pack n play in the second bedroom. He loved this cabin as well. After putting a few things up on higher shelves, I felt he was very safe here. We saw a moose right on the cabin driveway. A 20-40 min drive from Grand Teton hikes. If you and your family enjoy rustic (but also clean & cozy) vacations, book this now!

Cabin in the woods

Amazing location. 5 minutes from mormons row. 20-30 minutes from Jackson. 20 minutes from Jenny Lake. You are able to get views of the Tetons from the cabin. Limited to no reception at the cabin. Perfect place to disconnect if that is what you are looking for. I do think the main bed could use mattress topper it was a bit hard for my pregnant wife and myself. The cabin is slightly dusty if you suffer from allergies. Overall would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for an amazing Grand Tetons experience!

What a View!

I knew going in that the cabin's location was prime, but seeing the view from the cabin just sealed the deal. It's definitely rustic, but as long as you go into it knowing that, you'll be fine. The cabin was clean and comfortable, plus well-stocked. It's smack in the middle of the Grand Teton range, so we were well-positioned to go anywhere in the park or to Jackson Hole within a short/reasonable amount of time. It's also off a road that's designated as a scenic-drive, so it was always pleasant coming and going from the cabin. The one word of caution I have is that the person who is sleeping in the top bunk needs to be relatively fit. There isn't a traditional ladder to the top bunk (there is a system of cabinet shelves and strategically-placed handle-bars instead), so someone who is older or not sure-footed may feel uncomfortable climbing up. All in all, I was glad to have stayed here!

About the host

Hosted by Michele A Eaton

Host profile image
This has been our family retreat since we built the cabin almost 40 years ago. The 4th generation is now in the process of falling in love with the cabin and the Tetons. The contact person has lived in Jackson for more than 20 years and is happy to provide any assistance, including local tips.

Why they chose this property

Our family came to Jackson every summer to climb in the mountains. Father (grandfather, great-grandfather) was an avid mountaineer. We were very fortunate to be in Jackson when this unique parcel became available: an old-time ranching family decided to sell a few acres at the edge of the National Park. A handful of parcels were snapped up in a matter of days -- including our purchase! -- and the Park bought the rest.

What makes this property unique

The first dramatic feature you'll notice about our cabin is the views of the valley floor and of the Grand Tetons directly in front of you. The next thing you'll notice is the quiet. And the next thing you'll notice is a feeling of peace and delight. Works for everyone, all ages.
