Buckets of charm

This villa is beautiful, the location is stunning which means the views from the terraces are lovely, you could just look out at them all day! It is an exaggeration to say there's internet! It's very poor and only in certain parts of the villa, and you have to get the password from the restaurant next door( which is no hardship, that place is great) however the charms of the villa outweigh the lack of Wi-Fi. I would recommend going to the restaurant next door, great food, service and atmosphere! The kitchen and dining room are well equipped, and the beds are very comfortable. The pool is better than it looks on the photos, small but with a deep end, and we spent plenty of time enjoying it. Alba and Bob are perfect hosts, very accommodating and helpful, stick to Albas tips for helping keep the house cool, they work! I would certainly recommend this villa, and would revisit again.

Stunning Spanish Getaway

This place is a true home from home. 7 of us stayed for a week in June 2018, ages ranging from pre teens to late teens over 60 and everyone had an amazing time. The 50 minute drive from the airport is spectacular and the views from the house are also stunning. Comares is only about a 5 minute drive and is well worth the visit and the restaurant/bar el Molino which is next door, is like an extension to the villa. The house itself is beautiful, the kids loved exploring but its the outside living area which really makes this place. There are plenty of places to go and get some peace and quiet. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat and there is also a table tennis room which was lovely and cool. The hosts Alba and Bob are very welcoming and always a phone call away if you have any questions. We will be returning, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Great Location with stunning views

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Carlito in January. Spacious house with a swimming pool which would be lovely in summer & autumn. Beautifully located and within easy reach of delightful walks and stunning views. Comares is a great village full of character and history. Alba & Bob are very easy going and most welcoming . You can therefore guarantee a relaxing stay. Gordon & Norma

Delightful!

We absolutely loved staying in Villa Carlitos for two weeks! We were a family of 8 on vacation in Andalucia. Villa Carlitos is an incredibly charming old house. If you want to feel that you are in real Spain - this is it. And this is exactly what we wanted. There are pros and cons that future travelers might want to consider, and since we rely so much on other people's reviews I'd like to leave some constructive feedback here. Pros: - The feel of the house is amazing and totally worth sacrificing a few creature comforts. Seriously, it's magical. - The terraces are wonderful and where we spent most of our time. - The location is a bit remote, but there's a bar next door where we made ourselves at home :) We met a bunch of locals and blended in the pueblo life for a couple of weeks. -Alba and her husband are wonderful hosts and were there for us throughout our stay. Cons: - In hindsight we could have really used real AC because it was very warm in the house. There are fans but on really hot days it was not enough for us. - After about a week the two bathrooms upstairs had a bad odor. Again, this is an old house - just a part of the charm! - The house is located a few miles from the village which means we weren't able to walk to the pueblo. That was perhaps the biggest downside for us because we had to get into the car any time we wanted to do anything. If you are considering staying here you absolutely have to have a car. In sum, I definitely recommend Villa Carlitos for your Andalucia vacation. You'll get a chance to meet locals and really immerse yourself in the culture which is the best way to travel as far as I'm concerned. Thank you Alba for your hospitality! May we meet again!

Winter holiday in Comares

Situated in the foothills above Malaga. About an hour from the airport. You will need satnav to get there as you will be taking a mountain road – the views are stunning. The property is easy to find and is in a small hamlet below the town of Comares itself. There are lots of bedrooms and this house would suit two or even three families with children. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to use. There are loads of bathrooms with good showers and the water is always hot. There is a games room with a good table tennis table. If you want to play snooker you can do so at a local bar. The pool is small and we did not use it as temperatures in January are too cool. However we did sit outside for breakfast on several occasions. What a treat to be able to sit outside on a January morning and enjoy the winter sunshine! ( in the summer the position of this villa in the foothills above Malaga will mean the nights will be cooler and you will be able to sleep better) Bob and Alba are easy to deal with. Bob is English and has worked in Spain for 20 years. Alba is Colombian and is practical and a fluent English speaker. We had open fires every evening and there was a good supply of firewood at the back of the property which made this possible. You will probably want to visit Malaga. In January there are light shows at 6:30 PM every evening in central Malaga. Go early in the afternoon as the city becomes clogged up at about six in January because of this light show.Visit the Picasso museum or for a more relaxed day go to the botanical Gardens. The most fantastic mature trees and a wisteria walk which would be lovely in May/June . There is always the beach or a stroll along the paseo marítima. The more adventurous should go to Granada for a day. The Alambra palace is stunning and the generalife gardens are amazing! Go and find the staircase where a stream cascades down the balustrades. Such a visit will enable you to understand the importance the Moors played in Spain during centuries. Comares, of course, with its restored architecture is also indicative of Spain's Moorish history. It is a lovely town to stroll around and the remains of the old Moorish fort can still be seen. The views from the main square over the foothills are stunning. While staying at Villa Carlitos we did a long walk along the dried out riverbed. There was lavender in flower and honey bees working the wildflowers. I wish I had taken some binoculars.

A gorgeous, homely countryside villa

We stayed at the villa for a week, and it was absolutely perfect. The villa is perfect for a big group with 3 different beautiful terraces where you can sit and lounge all day long. The pool is great for cooling down, and there is a another local pool just up the road. It is a very peaceful area, but close enough to a couple of small bars and a gorgeous, quaint town centre. Bob and Alba were so helpful and friendly, they made us very welcome. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

Villa Carlitos - muy bueno!

This is our third visit to Comares staying at Villa Carlitos. The house is excellent for a large group (there were eleven of us). The house has a very authentic Spanish feel to it with lots of lovely plants and flowers, while offering plenty of shade at different times of the day. We really enjoyed eating outside on the covered terraces. The pool is ideal for a cooling dip and the local swimming pool in Comares is a super facility in a lovely setting. The table tennis was also a big hit with the children as was the outside hammock - great for a relaxing read. The bar next door, is run by a very friendly Spanish woman and is great for a cold beer and reasonably priced food. Another restaurant close by offers an alternative venue for food and drink. Comares is a beautiful hilltop village and it is definitely worth walking up to the ruined fortress for great views of the surrounding area. There is a very well stocked small supermarket in Comares which can provide for all your shopping needs. Malaga itself, is well worth visiting and a bus to Malaga stops just outside the house after 7am and returns in the early evening - a great day out! We really enjoyed our stay and Alba and Bob are very welcoming and approachable if you need anything.

I was told it was brilliant - it was perfect.

I visited this lovely villa this year with my sister and my two sons, they had spent two weeks here in 2014 and raved about their holiday. It was everything they had described, fantastic location with stunning views, a spot for all no matter how big your group. A lovely warm greeting from Alba when we arrived who is always on hand should you need her. My husband John particularly loved the front terrace, he would have his breakfast there each morning then sunbath until the pub next door opened- he was then off to join the locals for a friendly chat & drink. My sons both 25 + returned because they love the friendly locals, the restaurant often holds street parties. These are not rowdy but offer a great social gathering, we had a brilliant night entertained by a local band. I would highly recommend this villa to families or small groups, great for walking, sun drenched days on the various terraces and lovely local food.

Lovely villa in beautiful surroundings

We had a wonderful time in this traditional Spanish property in the middle of some of Spain's most beautiful hills. It's in a fantastic location just outside of the village of Comares - where you can access the amenities you might need, whilst being situated in a small group of properties, including a couple of restaurant/bars, making it a peaceful and tranquil experience but without being too cut off. The locals at these two restaurants are really friendly and welcoming so we really got to enjoy a bit of village life too! The villa itself was great for a big group as there are lots of living spaces including terraces, space by the pool and a room downstairs to play table tennis so we didn't feel on top of each other at all even if all of us were relaxing in the house together. Plus, the kitchen is a great space for cooking for lots of people and is decked out with all the utensils you could need! We just loved cooking some great dishes and then enjoying them on the patio outside looking out to the beautiful views! We did a variety of walks into the area surrounding the villa - there are both short and longer walks to suit your taste, and we enjoyed exploring Comares itself, which is a lovely town with some spectacular views. Bob and Alba are incredibly welcoming and helpful, and take a real pride in their property. We would highly recommend it, and are looking forward to returning as soon as we can squeeze a visit in!

AWESOME VILLA in a beautiful place.

We stayed at this perfect villa as a group of 8 people, I would highly recommend you stay here if you are looking for a location that offers amazing views, peace and tranquility but not too cut off from amenities. The villa offers a setting where you can spend time together in a group or space to chill out on your own on the many terraces. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything that you need should you wish to cook. The bar/ restaurant next door is a huge bonus, Encarnita the owner will cook you anything you ask for. There is also a restaurant called table mountain, this too offers delicious food and great hospitality. On arrival we were greeted by the owners Alba & Bob, they were very welcoming and are on hand should you need any help or advice. The service we received could not be faulted, it was first class. The villa is very quaint, we found it very clean and well maintained. The local people are very friendly, they seem to welcome visitors to their small village. Comares is a short drive uphill, we often walked both there and back. I would advise that you take a small torch if walking back in the dark as there is no road lights. Don't be put off from walking it is a pleasure to see all the views and the village has great bars and restaurants. We were lucky to be there whilst the festival was on, very traditional and a fantastic atmosphere. There is also an outdoor community pool, for 2 euros you can stay all day. We drove to many surrounding towns and beaches, all had something that we found interesting - well worth getting out and about. In summary I would say that all of our group have come back home a little sad to have left this perfect villa and location. My husband and nephew want to return and live there, it was just so idyllic. Thank you Alba & Bob for your hospitality.

AN UNFORGETTABLE HOLIDAY

We spent a delightful week at Villa Carlitos (a group of 9 adults) in a very relaxing and peaceful location with good access to the coastal beaches only half an hour away. We wanted to stay inland in the mountains where we could go for interesting walks with impressive scenery. Our hosts Bob and Alba Lucia were very pleasant, friendly and helpul with suggestions of places to visit and things to do. They made our trip special. The villa itself has been restored in a beautiful rustic fashion typical of Andalucia and is very comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen, barbecue, pleasant garden, table tennis and a nice pool for cooling off. The terraces in the villa are ideal for relaxing in the shade or sun with beautiful views over the countryside. We visited the historic hilltop village of Comares, only 10 minutes away by car, from which we enjoyed the stunning views of the area. Here there is a good restaurant and supermarket. We ate some evenings at the bar/restaurant "El Molino" next door to the villa where they cooked excellent Andalucian food. We had a fantastic holiday and Bob and Alba Lucia made us feel completely at home. We recommend this cosy Villa Carlitos to a family or group of friends who like to stay in the Spanish countryside in a lovely and peaceful rural retreat which is only one hour from Malaga airport. We definitely want to go back again.

Great escape to the country!

We went to Villa Carlitos with a group of friends and had a really fun but also relaxing stay. The highlight was probably the garden and its terraces with it's beautiful views. We spent most of our time here when we weren't out exploring the surrounding area (which is lovely-- we especially liked Comares, a typical Spanish white town just a few miles up the road). There are nice walks to go on in the area and if you do fancy going to the beach it's not too far for a day trip (although we preferred staying in the hills and cooling off in the pool!) We had a fantastic time enjoying each other's company, having BBQs, sunbathing, lounging in the pool, discovering our ping pong talents and of course sipping on mojitos!! There's also a bar next door if you don't fancy cooking or want to get a feel for the locals, but being out in the country it's not roudy at all and the whole area is really peaceful. The owners are really friendly and helpful and you can tell they've put a lot of work into the place and enjoy spending time there which makes it homely and they've provided everything you might need. I'd definitely reccommend Villa Carlitos to families or groups of friends who want to get away for an escape-- it's ideal!

A taste of the real Andalucia

This villa offers everything for a thoroughly enjoyable stay, with plenty to do for all of our family group (11 of us) which ranged in age from 2 to 82. Bob & Alba met us on arrival and showed us around, as well as providing plenty of ideas for our stay. The house itself has been beautifully restored, retaining it's original charm, yet Bob & Alba have provided all the modern amenities you would need. There was also a box of toy cars & games which impressed the younger children greatly! Externally there are multiple terraces to enjoy or hide from the sun, as well as a fabulous pool, with ample seating for our entire group. Many evenings were spent dining outside & playing table tennis tournaments. The bar next door, run by the very friendly Encarni serves wonderful food and Rioja and is very family orientated. This house provides a taste of the real Spain, but yet all the touristy attractions are close by. If you want a relaxing holiday with a fab house, pool and views, friendly locals and gracious hosts, then this is the house for you. We will be back!

Authentic Andalucia

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Carlitos. Although there was eleven of us, there was always enough room, good shade on the lovely terraces if needed and everybody loved the pool. The kitchen was very well equipped and we enjoyed eating all our meals outside. Comares village is a spectacular hilltop location just a short drive away with a well stocked supermarket and an outdoor pool. Alba and Bob were most helpful and we would all love to return.

The Perfect Getaway

What a treat! In little over half an hour we escaped from the busy Malaga airport to this beautifully restored 'white' house in the hills, with incredible views and such a relaxing atmosphere. There are great touches throughout the house reflecting Alba and Bob's loving attention to detail in a way that is designed to make you cosy in the winter and cool in the heat of the summer. We enjoyed nothing better than having a relaxing dinner, with plenty of local produce, and a nice glass of rioja on the terrace, after a good day's walk or just chilling out by the pool with a good book. We also loved the table tennis, which is a great way to keep a large group or kids active whilst you relax or even join in! We'll be back. Peter K from London

A week in Comares

We spent a fantastic relaxing week with friends at Villa Carlitos. The house was everything we hoped it would be and more. We had long relaxing breakfasts on the front terrace, long evening meals with plenty of wine on the back terrace. During the day we could relax in the pool or in the shady part of the terrace when it got too hot. Comares is a delightful Andalucian town the whole pace of life of this part of rural Spain makes for a wonderful stay. I am sure we will be back! Many thanks to Alba and Bob for their welcome and for the use of the house.

Authentic Spain - we will be back!

We had a memorable week in Villa Carlitos. April was great - we could still enjoy cosy evenings by the fireside playing games but it was warm enough to be out by the poolside and on the terraces during the day. This was really important with small kids - it allowed us to relax as well. When we wanted to cook, the country-style kitchen couldn't have been better but when we didn't feel like it all we had to do was slip next door and enjoy Sebastian and Pepa's hospitality in the bar next door. We were looking for a bit of real Spain, away from the concrete at the beaches - lots of country walks and fabulous views - we will be back!!! Walter and Family (from Zurich, Switzerland)

Just what the doctor ordered

We spent 1 week here in Comares, I was in need of a peaceful break and Villa Carlitos was the perfect tranquil retreat. The descriptions from the web site are accurate and true, unlike others i have searched in the past, which was as refreshing as the beauitiful surrounds. The location is perfect for what ever your choice of holiday may be, with easy access to Malaga town and beaches. The facilities are first class with particular emphasis on making you feel at home while indoors and showing you the best of the Spanish outdoor life. The memories of late evenings watching the sunset over the mountains with a glass or two of Rioja a plate of paella and the occasional dip in the pool will be with me forever. Bob and Alba Lucia really make you feel like you are in your own home with their perfectly balanced decor, their assistance and attention was second to none. The local taverna was friendly and fun serving excellent affordable meals for when you choose not to cook for yourself. My only regret is that I wish i had booked for the month instead of only 1 week. I am already looking forward to a return visit in the not too distant future.

Perfect to relax , but also to entertain friends

We spent two weeks in this beautifully restored and decorated house. The first just with the Mrs and for the second we were joined by some friends. The first week was spent relaxing in the pool and doing some of the local walks around the nearby Village of Comares. The countryside here really is beautiful and very peaceful. The evening sunsets over the rear garden and hillside are fantastic! A real contrast to all the over development seen further along the coast. When our friends turned up we made use of all the extra bedrooms. They brought plenty of wine and food but it was great to have the nearby bar for when no-one wanted to cook. We made a couple of trips down to Malaga and the nearby beaches only an hour away. Some of our party even discovered Yoga lessons with the lady that runs the little shop next door. So altogether a really memorable holiday. A bargain too with everybody chipping in. We needed to both relax and have some fun and this place was just the ticket!

All you could want from a mountain villa

We spent two weeks in Spain, the first at a seaside apartment and the second here. This property was by far the best for facilities, amazing views and incredibly good customer service. Everything we needed was provided and much more. Bob and Alba Lucia could not have been more helpful and we enjoyed our stay very, very much. The location was quiet in spite of a fantastic, family friendly bar and restaurant on one side and a provision and gift shop on the other. We would recommend it time and time again.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

With its 4 bathrooms and 5-6 bedrooms, Villa Carlitos is ideal for a couple of families with kids or an extended family wanting a relaxing holiday together. It also works for anyone looking to find the real Andalucia, peaceful but not dead (a couple of bars and neighbours around), great walks, plenty of space on the various terraces to relax in and ideal for cooking great, leisurely meals, or going next door to Encarnita in 'El Molino' for lovely Andalucian, home-cooked, comfort-food or to the 'Table Mountain' if you want food a bit more sofisticated.
In the winter, the evenings centre around the log fire with candelight and music or videos and games. Breakfast and lunch can be eaten on the terrace most of the year. In the summer the various terraces ensure that you can always find shade or sun as you like and provide wonderful relaxing environments for late dinners and bottles of wine, star-gazing, listening to the crickets and watching the galactic fights to the death of the geckos against all-comers played out on the wall of the house.
Just an hour from Malaga's international airport and situated on a good-quality tarmac road, Villa Carlitos is relatively easy to get to but offers dramatic mountain and country views with walks from the front door. At around 700 metres above sea-level and in a small hamlet 10 minutes from the white-washed village of Comares, we are in the heart of the Axarquia and a short drive from the Montes of Malaga National Park. The hamlet of Los Ventorros is a combination of the most authentic Andalucian country life (the old men playing dominoes and cards in the bar next door, the sound of goat bells from the local herd, the friendlieness of the local people, the great country recipes) with a touch of the cosmopolitan provided by a few international neighbours from the surrounding villages (Brits, Dutch, German) who have also decided that they enjoy the good life of rural Andalucia.
