This 1925 Historical Cottage is located in Whitfield Estates adjacent to the Historic Austin Mansion. Enjoy the private patio & courtyard nestled in the tropical flowers & Banyon trees. We are a short 15 minute drive from the beautiful beaches of Sarasota and downtown. Take a walk in the serene Whitfield Estates neighborhood with peek a boo views of the bay. There are beautiful sunset views from the private patio.

Spring Break at Sea Turtle Cottage

We (3 female family members of representing 3 generations) really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was exactly as described and very cozy. It wasn't the Ritz but that wasn't what we were looking for as a home away from home. We fixed the majority of our meals in the kitchen and enjoyed the convenience of the dishwasher. We didn't make use of the pool but enjoyed various beaches in the area. And we did enjoy sitting outside on the patio in the evenings. There were plenty of dishes, lots and pans, etc. Our hostess responded to all of our enquiries in a reasonable time. We definitely recommend staying here.

False misrepresentation

Cosmetically unacceptable! No Wi-Fi , no cable! No smoke detectors! Disappointed in the first impression! Dirty patio with dirty chairs you wouldn’t sit in and leaves covering the patio. Mud and sand covering the walkway and overgrowth covering walkway back to cottage. I tire property is unkept. Mold on shower floor and curtain. Entrance lock wouldn’t work! Hole in bathroom door! Wish we had stayed someplace else!

Low quality for rest

We were not happy because of the poor quality of the bed, we did not have a good rest, it is very uncomfortable and noisy. Second, the wifi is of poor quality, we didn't have a signal for two days out of the three we were there

The place was not clean, and had a terrible mildew smell that never went away. The bathroom had its own particular bad smell. If you have any bad response to mold, do not stay here.

Horrible !!

We didn’t last one night. Stayed about a hour or so and got out of there. Cob webs on the ceilings, corners of the bedroom and a lot of dead animals under the bed. Horrible musty smell and no response from property manager. It’s currently under investigation. DO NOT BOOK HERE. Completely ruined our vacation.

Not as described, outdated, very close to airport

The photos provided for this property are very very outdated. The beautiful reddish-brown Spanish tile that the pictures show has been replaced by the ugliest, cheapest-looking, fake marble-looking tile that absolutely is not consistent with the style of the cottage. They tried to paint a couple of walls gray to tie in the god-awful tile, but then why leave yellow and orange curtains? I question who their decorator is. Additionally, if you are staying at this cottage and hoping to enjoy the beach, Be sure you realize that the beach is 8 miles away and will take you 30 to 45 minutes to get to, this was not disclosed in the description. All I can say is, for the rental rate that I paid for the week to stay at this cottage, I was disappointed with the value that I received. The cottage is old, I get that, but the thermostat is literally hanging from a wire out of a hole in the wall… I find this extremely tacky. The bed is old and nearly impossible to sleep in because of being so uncomfortable. Limiting the guest use of the pool to daytime only hours, and not evenings, is not convenient if you plan to sightsee or take in other attractions in Sarasota and then want to relax by the pool in the evening, it’s not allowed. It was not disclosed in the description that this cottage is mere blocks from and in the direct flight path of the Bradenton-Sarasota international airport, and the planes begin flying over the cottage around 5 AM and continue throughout the day and into the evening. I realize this is not the fault of the property owner, still it was not disclosed. With the thousands and thousands of choices in this area for vacation rentals, I was quite dissatisfied with this property, and I would not stay here again.

Cozy N. Sarasota get away

Very nice, secluded cottage. Great neighborhood, perfect for walking/running/riding bikes. Easily walk to great view of the bay with Longboat key in background.

We loved this cottage

The cottage was cozy and nicely decorated. Despite being close to the busy Tamiami trail and airport it was extremely quiet and secluded. The garden is lovely, but the pool is too cold to swim in the winter. The area is great to walk around most of the houses have quite large gardens, it's very leafy tropical and lush and you can walk to the edge of the water from the cottage. The cottage is very close to the Ringling Museum which has an extensive garden to walk in and excellent restaurant to have lunch. We walked there most days. We also discovered the New College of Florida garden next door to the Ringling Museum also a great place to walk with hardly any people in it. Downtown Sarasota and the Keys are all easily accessible. The best beach we found is on Long Boat Key do not bother with Siesta Key it is crawling with people! St Armands Key was our favourite place to both eat and shop.

Turtle Cottage

Cottage was nice and cozy. Not clean as stated, and front door lock needs to be replaced. Pool was not clean or sitting area outside of cottage.

One or two concerns

The place was great! I truly loved the layout and amenities. My concerns are for the front and back doors. Both doors only have a flimsy handle lock, which could be easily broken. The back door opens in the bedroom has a window in it with only a thin gauzy curtain covering it. First, the door doesn't properly lock, you have to work it; second, the curtain doesn't fully cover the door. Those items need to

Dirty & Dilapidated & No Hot Water

Don't stay here. We checked in and found the cottage hadn't been properly cleaned--fingerprints in the refrigerator, squashed bugs and stains on the wall and the outside was a mess. Then the hot water went off for two days and was still off when we left after only two days. The advertised pool is full of debris . After we complained, the owner sent the landscaper in who took out 10 bags of debris. Owner refused compensation so we plan legal action.

Quaint cottage

We found the home inside in good condition the exterior could use attention. Several nature-caused issues had us in touch with the property manager who handled everything with very responsive attention.

Disappointed

I would agree with other reviews that the pictures of this cottage are deceiving especially the pool area. It just was not inviting. The cottage was clean but it is in need of up keeping which includes the inside and outside - bathroom door, bedroom mattress. The cottage has a humidifier which you need to change water but still smells musty. I was just expecting something a little different for what we paid for... which we paid a lot.

Quaint and clean

It was a really cute guest house but there was no beach access as insinuated. There was a pool but it was not a private pool shared with the main house. The guest house was clean but the bed was not comfortable at all. Probably wouldn’t stay again unless the mattress was changed. It was in a quiet neighborhood but the water view was the end of the street over and no access due to private property.

My worst experience thru VRBO, and it's a shame because it could he a beautiful, charm king cottage

Unfortunately, it has not been maintained and upon arrival we were greeted by a garbage bag at the front door, next dirty dishes in the dishwasher, and ants all over the kitchen counter, paint peeling on bathroom door and a filthy shower curtain. The pool which is shared with the owner had nowhere to sit or lounge as the furniture was full of mold. This is during a covid 19 crisis where cleanliness is of utmost importance. This is not my first experience with VRBO but this rental did not meet the standards that I am used to. We could have stayed in a 5 star hotel for two nights but elected the VRBO because we have always been impressed with the cleanliness. I have pictures which I would like to send to the property mgr and owner as well.

Richard's Place

Richard's place was an idyllic one month interlude. We came to help our daughter with her children's online courses so we were not there during the day. We have a small dog which we put in daycare during the day as Richard had adopted a new dog who he was training. The daycare was just down the street and very convenient.

not accurately portrayed and owner not interested in addressing problems

pictures online are cute but not accurate. Property outside entrance, walkway, and patio furniture filthy, inside was not very clean and toilet did not flush / ran constantly, dead flies on drapes, dirt on floors, flickering lights in kitchen, - not a confident it was clean especially in a Covid-19 environment. Texted with property manager offsite who said owner will contact us. He ignored us until late next morning when I had to strongly knock on his door 3 times. When I requested discussion with him about our concerns, other than saying he'll call a plumber, he was evasive, abrasive, and abruptly refused to talk to me any further and ran back into his house- He actually did this twice, first in the morning, and later in the afternoon when we caught him talking to the plumber in his front yard, e ran back into his house shouting to us he "didn't have time". With a rental with so many cleanliness issues and an owner who refuses to speak with his renters, we checked out after just one day. Renter beware

70th Birthday Retreat for Mom

Had such a great weekend at the Sea Turtle Cottage! For my mom's 70th, we had planned on the Ritz but I went and adopted a dog instead! Needed something that would accommodate the new pup as well as get us close to our family we would be spending time with. This was the perfect location and private little oasis for a quick trip over the Skyway bridge. We enjoyed the property and area immensely and would certainly recommend and return for much needed getaways!

MAGICAL!!!

Can't say enough wonderful things about my stay at Sea Turtle Cottage. The Cottage, Richard's hospitality that went above and beyond, and the experience as a whole, could never be captured at a Hotel or in my opinion any other VRBO in the area. You are not paying for a roof over your head, your are truly paying for a magical experience. The exquisite gardens and pool are enough to relax and heal any soul, and my walks Bayside in the AM were fabulous. The neighbor is stunning! I can't WAIT to return! Thank you, Richard, Dena, 'Doc" and of course... Ms. Sophie for making this challenging time for all, into one of my greatest journeys yet!

Great little getaway!

The Sea Turtle was a great stay! The owner had a beach bag with towels, umbrella and chairs ready to go! The accommodations were clean and comfy too!
