Villa Castiglione 1863

C.i.r.: 19088009C100638

CIN:

Ancient Villa of a noble Sicilian family, of an important 19th-century personality in the Ragusa area, nestled in the Sicilian countryside among miles and miles of dry stone walls, just 7 km from Ragusa.
Villa Castiglione, is located 640 meters above sea level in an area with clean and sunny air and offers exclusively for guests the palace designed by architect G.B. Pennavaria in the 18th century, a large swimming pool (13x7), reserved exclusively for guests who book, large outdoor spaces, courtyards, park.

The Villa has some important amenities which are: its spacious main floor of the palace finished in 1863, we find 4 large courtyards of ancient stone, one of which has a large vase, the lawn around the pool and the park of 3 hectares where there is the magnificent monumental tree Pinus Pinea of 30 m, where you can enjoy full relaxation, and total privacy for you, your family, your friends, whole days.

The villa is located outside the city, where you will find peace, clean air, friendly birds and animals, when you wake up.

In the grounds you will find a beautiful white horse, two peacocks, three chickens and two ducks.
We have a beautiful dog and an amazing tortoise.
A beautiful feeling of absolute dominance over the landscape around us, experienced by each of our visitors.

Furnished in a refined mid-19th century style, and with a delicate taste deserving of such a house, and embellished with pitch stone floors and double bedrooms with the original "majolica" ceramics from Caltagirone, the house consists of a kitchen with a modern and safe induction stove, perfect for children.

The kitchen echoes the old style of Sicilian kitchens with stone oven, stone sink with copper faucets, all complete with stove, refrigerator and appliances such as microwave, kettle, toaster, Italian coffee maker and American coffee maker, blender, washing machine and dishwasher.

Inside the house and out by the pool, there is Wi-Fi.
You can also work during your vacation in smart working.

We continue with the entrance hall where we will welcome you upon arrival with a "welcome buffet" with a tasting of typical local products, ranging from sweet to savory.

A large dining room with seating for 6, equipped with satellite TV with many international channels and a dvd player, leads us to the bordeau room, where important meetings were held in those days.
From the living room you can reach the terrace that overlooks the Big Pine Park, set of important films in the past such as Commissioner Montalbano.

The three rooms have a set of towels, antique furniture typical of Sicilian tradition, and inverter air conditioning.
Inverter air conditioning is present in all rooms of the house.

Two recently renovated full bathrooms with large shower stalls, and hair dryers.

The guidelines we follow as sanitizing environments are those of the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
In cleanliness reviews we always have the top.

At your request you can have assistance from a doctor or nurse for any need.
The pharmacy is at the entrance of the town just a few minutes from the Villa.

As mentioned, the house is surrounded by 60 hectares of land, with views of the great valley and the volcano Etna in the distance, the classic stone walls or "dry wall," typical of the Ragusa countryside that divided one fief from another.

We have four large courtyards, a church where the usual Sunday mass was held until the mid-1960s, and a 3-hectare park with a centuries-old pine tree surrounded by plants and fruit trees, such as almonds and walnuts.

In the area near the pool, there are two bathrooms with showers, then right in the garden equipped with a 13x7m pool, with comfortable sunbeds to lie and sunbathe comfortably, where you can, lunch or dinner and games to entertain children, with inflatable games, mattresses and sports accessories.

Equipped with free parking, the Villa is 7 km from Ragusa (5 minutes by car), 14 km from Comiso airport, and 300 meters from an agritourism that offers typical dishes such as ricotta, sausage, provola di Ragusa, focaccia, local wine and many other delicacies.

The IperCoop and Decatlhon shopping center all for sports, with supermarket, Atm, tobacconist, clothing, and souvenirs, is of great importance 7 minutes from the Villa.

The Villa is centrally located in the province, continuing the tour, among the most important Unesco heritage baroque cities. The Villa is 10 minutes from Ragusa Ibla, the "Vigata" of Commissioner Montalbano, 20 minutes by car from Modica and Scicli and the nearest beaches, 20 minutes from the sea Marina di Ragusa and Punta Secca, the "Marinella" of Commissioner Montalbano, Randello and Foce dell' Irminio Protected Maritime Reserves, 8 km from the famous Donnafugata Castle.
Noto and Siracusa are 45 minutes by car, 1 1/2 hours from Agrigento.
Catania airport is less than 100 km away.

It is ideal for stays of 3-4 weeks, as has already happened with some guests, and as mentioned, well positioned to be a base for visiting the whole province of Ragusa and Syracuse, Catania, Agrigento, and Palermo.

In the park behind the Villa we have a fantastic viewpoint from which you can see half of Sicily, a breathtaking panorama, you can see many cities from the southwestern coast of Sicily to the volcano Etna.
From Comiso to Caltagirone, Chiaramonte and other towns.

Nearby stood a large settlement of indigenous Siculians, primitive peoples connected with the art of pottery, nature and its sun gods.
In 1999 an important sculpture, later called the Castiglione Warrior, was found depicting a warrior prince with a bull on the right and a sphinx on the left. It was also taken to the Pergamon Museum in Berlin during an exhibition done for a year; today it is in the city's Archaeological Museum.

Speaking of the fiction Il Commissario Montalbano, two entire episodes were filmed inside the Villa: in 1999 "The Cat and the Goldfinch" and "A Diary of 43' in 2018 ".

The Villa is ideal for families with children, families with relatives, young couples and friends, who want to spend their vacations together in the part of Sicily with a deeper history, quiet and rich environment of the island.

The bedrooms are located on the opposite side of the living area, as they once were. They are 19th-century style, with the famous Caltagirone ceramics, large and comfortable and interconnected.
On request, where possible, the rooms can be divided, and the beds put in place of the living room, where there is a fireplace.

We try to convey these with our guests during their stay.
We believe we offer an experience that is different from the usual routine.

A fantastic property!

This was an amazing place to stay. A huge, beautiful house with a wonderful pool in a tranquil setting. The host, Antonio, was incredibly helpful. A faultless experience, highly recommended!

Beautiful and special villa

We spent two amazing weeks at the villa with our three children (14, 13, 10 years). The villa offers an exclusive and secluded base to explore the surrounding baroque towns (e.g. Ragusa Ibla, Modica) and stunning sandy beaches (e.g. Punta Secca, Sampieri, Marina di Ragusa) all within 35 minute radius. We also loved tonsimply laze at the beautiful pool. The children were delighted with the use of many pool toys and inflatables. The owners, Giovanni and his family, were very attentive and kind. The villa is clean, well maintained and fully equipped with all you could need to make you feel at home, The close shopping centre is very handy. The sun rises and sun sets are unforgettable; the old church remains and the big tree add to the retreat experience. The gentle breeze is very welcome in the summer heat. It can be windy at night as it is high on a mountain, so bring warm clothing! We highly recommend this villa for families and others who are seeking a luxurious and relaxing holiday in a private setting. Thank you Giovanni for a most memorable holiday

Traumhafter Urlaub

beautiful property with history and lovely views

What an amazing property! Antonio and his mother welcomed us with beautiful local cakes, cheeses, bread, and fruit, and gave us a wonderful tour of the house. It is a magical place to stay. Very close to groceries and other shopping, the kitchen is well supplied and everything works perfectly. There is lots of hot water, and the wifi is strong throughout the property. The estate is a marvel, and even though we didn't swim (we managed to be there during a stormy few days), the pool area is gorgeous. We highly recommend the Villa Castiglione!

amazingly beautiful villa. Just perfect!

Villa Castiglione is a trip back in time, and it's not a recreated piece of the past - it's genuine in every possible way, except of course, such things as the spotlessly clean pool, the bathrooms and the appliances (we even used the washing machine once). Everything else - the time-polished slabs of the front yard, the ancient stone wall fences, the stone planter boxes - looked and felt so authentic, as if it was taken from a museum. We spent only three days there, and were very sad to leave. The villa was so beautiful, we were reluctant to leave every morning, though there's a ton to see within a short drive. We just wanted to linger a little more, to take a few more pictures or make another video. Privacy: we were the only guests, and enjoyed the huge apartment on the second floor, with a separate door, kitchen and 2 bathrooms. It has 1 master bedroom plus 2 more very spacious bedrooms, a study room with beautiful antique furniture, a dining room with a pretty old china cabinet filled with figurines, and a kitchen equipped with everything one might need to cook a serious meal, including an electric citrus juicer, teapot, etc. The bedroom closet had over a dozen towels and extra sheets/blankets. The host: Antonio went overboard in his hospitality. His mother prepared a welcome snack that could count for a whole dinner. Antonio and his mother greeted us upon arrival and answered all our questions. Antonio gave us info on beaches, supermarkets, and towns to visit. He is a true patriot of beautiful Sicilia, and is very attached to the villa that has been in his family's possession for centuries. Location: the villa would be a perfect place for an unforgettable wedding or family gathering. It is located in a very secluded area just outside of Ragusa, yet it is easily and quickly accessible from the major highway.

A really enjoyable stay in an impressive villa

Our group of six really enjoyed staying at Villa Castiglione in July. After we arrived, the host family welcomed us with freshly cut melon, smoked cheese, ricotta tarts and other pastries, which we really appreciated. The villa and grounds, including a beautiful pine tree, are truly impressive. The accommodation on offer is a large apartment taking up most of the upper floor of the villa. The interior has many features including original tiled floors and a handsome black stone fireplace. It’s clear that you’ve stepped into a family home with a rich history. The villa’s terrace is a lovely spot to have breakfast or to look at the night sky. An outdoor dining table would be a welcome addition to the terrace. The pool area is large enough for everyone to have their own space if they want it – there’s grass and the shade of trees, all surrounded by beautiful dry-stone walls, trees and shrubs. Beaches are within easy reach by car and we went kitesurfing whenever there was wind. There’s a shopping centre five minutes’ drive away plus there’s a fantastic farm shop very close and a family-run restaurant that serves fantastic pizza. The villa and grounds are exposed so it was not uncomfortably hot during our stay and the villa was generally cool inside. Sometimes it was nice to wear something warm in the evening. The host family is very pleasant and down-to-earth. There are two lovely dogs in the grounds, plus goats, hens, a cat and a peacock. Someone turned up daily to clean the pool and take care of the plants and animals, but otherwise we had the run of the place. We’ll definitely be returning.

Wonderful stay in a lovely apartment

We stayed four weeks in this villa and had a great time enjoying the house, garden, pool and amazing views. When we first arrived we were a bit disappointed since we had been told there were no other houses or people living there. In fact the part that is rented out as a villa is a big apartment on the second floor. Antonio, belonging to the family and very helping and sympathetic, is living downstairs. There is also two other apartments, one which is being rented out. So don't expect to be alone. The grounds are also shared with dogs, cats, goats, peacocks, hence, a turtle etc which was a much welcome surprise for our kids. Especially the 10 puppies! There are no AC or jazucci as was indicated in the add that now seam to be missing. The pool is however very big and is cleaned every day. It was very hot when we were there but we managed with fans. The house is a stonehouse and the ceilings are high so it didn't get too warm. The hosts are extremely hospitable and offered us a buffet of local products upon arrival, bought a cake for our baby's first birthday and sweets for our guests. They answer directly on any questions and Antonio not only offered us a free tour on Donnafugata castle but also took us on a walk showing us the grounds. We loved the apartment, almost like a castle and a big terrace we enjoyed since the garden is a short walk away. The kitchen could have been better done, almost no space to work on and a gas oven. But hey the property is from the 1830's! Also we had some space issues with all the small decorations everywhere, beautiful but not much space for our stuff and we were afraid of breaking anything. We had some friends visiting and it worked out fine. Just bear in mind that the bedrooms are connected so you have to go through every room to reach the last bedroom. There are only one bathroom and toilet but fortunately one by the pool as well. The area was nice although the white plantations is a ugly look while driving downhill. We especially liked Punta Secca and the Noto region. Ragusa Ibla and the other baroque cities are worth visiting. Too bad you can't take walks outside the house since there is only a big road with heavy intense traffic on it. The beaches are 25 minutes away. In all we had a great stay although we didn't expect it to be an apartment. We can highly recommend it but bear in mind that there might be a party by the pool in the night/early morning!

Authentieke villa, gastvrije ontvangst

Beautiful villa, a step back in time

Beautiful peaceful villa, warm hospitality, elegantly restored on the outside whilst retaining traditional character inside. Great pool, good location for visiting most of south east Sicily. One of the owners lives on the ground floor, but unless you seek him out you wouldn't know, your privacy is respected. Will definitely be back.

Sun Kissed Villa in Sicily

As a family of four we spent a fantastic two weeks at Villa Sortino Trono. This charming old farmhouse stands in its own enormous grounds surrounded by countryside, and yet the supermarket and shops of Ragusa are five minutes’ drive away. The walled garden which houses the pool was perfect for taking it easy, with lots of sunbeds and seating and shady trees. If you wanted the beach, Punta Secca or Punta Scoglitti are both 25 minutes away with nice golden sand and there are plenty of beautiful baroque towns and villages to explore along the way. A big thank you to Giovanni and his family who looked after us, supplied us with home grown figs, lemons and lemon tea and even bought me a locally made cake for my birthday! I would certainly recommend the villa for families and we would happily return ourselves another year.

Incanto

Gentilissimi i proprietari e sempre attenti. Enjoy it!
