Palazzo Forani è un'imponente villa del XVI secolo con una torre del 13 ° secolo, una delle uniche cinque rimaste delle fortificazioni del borgo medievale in pietra Casperia, arroccato su una collina nelle splendide colline della Sabina a solo 1 ora da Roma. La proprietà consiste in un'ampia sistemazione per 21 persone con 2 cucine nel Granaio e Archi e 4/5 persone con angolo cottura nel Torrione, un ampio cortile, meravigliosi giardini e panorami mozzafiato. Il restauro di villa e Torrione è di altissima qualità e l'atmosfera dei tempi passati è conservata in ogni angolo. Originariamente acquistato dalla famiglia Maldura in epoca napoleonica, è stato ereditato dalla famiglia aristocratica Forani che ha lasciato gli arredi e il layout quasi come se fossero stati per secoli. Gli edifici sono quindi un'affascinante combinazione dei secoli con angoli e anfratti, scale e gradini e stanze in luoghi insoliti, quindi non aspettatevi una stanza quadrata in un edificio quadrato! I bagni appena installati e il riscaldamento centralizzato sono le uniche eccezioni! Alcune camere sono per 3 ospiti, alcune sono per 2, alcune sono doppie quindi c'è una grande flessibilità nella sistemazione. Casperia è un meraviglioso villaggio in pietra, interamente pedonale con le sue strette e tortuose strade lastricate in pietra e viste inaspettate e incredibili tra le case. Palazzo Forani vanta l'unico accesso carrabile al vecchio borgo!

Il Granaio era originariamente l'ala orientale di Palazzo Forani, il cui ingresso vanta due meravigliosi ornamenti di pietra in omaggio alla rinomata famiglia romana Orsini e ospitava il grano e i negozi per la casa. Al piano terra presenta un ingresso, una cucina con camino, due piccoli salotti, uno con camino, una camera a due letti con bagno privato, una camera matrimoniale con connessione grande camera singola e bagno in comune. L'antica scala in mattoni conduce al primo piano dove c'è un ampio salotto con un enorme camino e vista sul 'Corso', la strada principale stretta e stretta che circonda il villaggio. Il salotto porta a due camere matrimoniali entrambe con un terzo letto e vista sulle colline e sulle valli Sabina. Queste due camere hanno bagni. La cucina può ospitare 12 persone mentre il focolare nero è in grado di preparare la vostra cena aromatica! Anche se l'antica atmosfera rimane, la cucina e il bagno sono recentemente installati con tutti gli elettrodomestici moderni. Un'altra ala, Gli Archi, ha 3 camere da letto e un soppalco con 3 bagni e uno spazio aperto in cucina. Altre 2 camere da letto sono in un'altra ala: è un delizioso labirinto proprio come ci si aspetterebbe da un'antica villa. Casperia e la zona circostante vantano numerosi festival e feste paesane durante l'anno. Nel mese di agosto, è la festa Stringozzi, un meraviglioso piatto di pasta fatto in casa che è il centro di questo delizioso festival. A settembre, la Festa di S. Maria con la danza e naturalmente cibo e vino (nessun festival è senza queste graffette necessarie!) e ad ottobre è la Polenta e la Castagne. Giugno vede il festival irlandese e innumerevoli sono le celebrazioni di luglio solo perché è estate! Wonderful!

Had a brilliant time in the beautiful Casperia and was made to feel extremely welcome. Everyone made us feel right at home, especially Deirdre for organising everything, Sue for the private tour, Alessandra for cooking us the most amazing lasagne, and of course Anna for staying up late to welcome us in. Highly recommend to anyone, this was one of my favourite holidays ever :)

Stepping back in time!

Casperia is a village not to be missed!! Staying at Palazzo Forani has been the highlight of our trip. The cobblestone alleyways that leads to homes and storefronts, restaurants, and friendly people are magnificent! It’s truly like stepping back in time! It exceeded our expectations immensely!! Casperia, we will miss you!

Absolutley perfect in every way!!

When we booked the Palazzo Forani for our family to stay at during our Casperia wedding we did not imagine how perfect it would be. Carla, Deirdre, Anna, Angela and AnnaMaria made our stay feel as if it was our home and they were a part of our family. The palazzo is stunning and seemed like there was always some fascinating new spot to discover every day. The private gardens were the perfect balance to the ancient narrow lanes of the village and made for a great gathering space of our large group of 25. The views and sunsets from the terraces were spectacular and made you pinch yourself to think a place like this really exists. We enjoyed several banquet dinners for our whole group in the cellar kitchen/ancient olive oil storage room that were always perfect as our hosts always had a solution to whatever detail we overlooked and AnnaMaria’s dinners were sumptuous and always attentive to all the varied dietary needs we had. Casperia is the perfect, quiet getaway village of ancient winding car-free streets and stunning views out over the Sabina Hills with all the services you could need in reach; a bank, grocery, bar, snack stand, pizzeria, restaurant, etc… set amongst rolling landscape of olive trees and ancient hilltowns dotting the landscape. People at home were so amazed at how everything worked so wonderfully and how much work we must have done, I just tell them we put our faith in wonderful people and let them do what they do so well. Could not give any higher praise than the wonderful ladies of Palazzo Forani and the subline beauty of Casperia..

Mysterious, beautiful and inspiring

We were 15 people there for a writing retreat, and Anna, Carla, and Renata made us feel like family. While the language barrier created some funny and clever communication, they went out of their way to make us feel welcome, even arranging a pasta-making lesson for us and a birthday cake on our last night. It was unseasonably cold and rainy, but thankfully the perfect weather to stay inside and write. The palace is mysterious and inspiring--you really feel like you have stepped back in time.

Amazing stay!

We wanted to find a spectacular place for our dear friends 40th birthday. We had flights to Rome and wanted to stay somewhere quite close but not in a hotel because we were party of 23 people. Quite accidently we found Palazzo Forani. About 30 e-mails later with Deirdre arranging accomodation, cooking classes, questions about the surroundings etc. we arrived to Palazzo Forani. And what an amazing place that was! Part of our group arrived with rented car and rest of us with train/bus. Laura and Michele met us at the gas station just outside the wall of the old town and led us to the castle. There we snacks and wine waiting for us. We really felt like being in the middle of the historical atmosphere. Casperia in April was like summer in Finland (when it’s really warm), sunny, green and pleasant. Nice walks around the town and beautiful views where everywhere we looked. Surroundings of the castle were so verdant and well cared for. We had a tour in the castle and it was so interesting to hear about the castle’s history. And to realize that we were actually staying in such an old place with so much history behind. All the rooms were different and authentic on their own way. On our third night we had a party night celebrating our friend’s birthday. By Deirdre’s suggestion we took apart of this amazing theatre show around the castle by Theatre Company Maner Manush. Thank you so much, the experience was amazing! Carla, Anna-Maria, Laura and Michele also enchanted us an unforgettable evening with delicious dinner. They were actually part of our party, and we had so much fun! Next day we had a cooking class with Anna Maria and we made traditional pasta (can’t remember the name… string.. something?  ) Only half of us participated but all of us got the pleasure to enjoy the result. Anna Maria had also done the delicious sauce with the pasta. It was so good and we ate it all! We can’t even put it on to words how well everything was arranged and how welcomed we felt. Forani family is so helpful and really want to make your visit unforgettable. And that’s what it really was for us! Can’t thank you enough! After reading this text you might think this is too good to be true, but believe us, it is!!! You should try!

I already tried to post a review, but obviously messed up along the way. Probably, this was a subconscious ploy to keep Palazzo Forani off the radar. My sister and I wanted to take our other sister and her two children somewhere special for her 60th birthday. Things started well as we picked up the car rental, without problems, and followed the directions given by Deirdre - I forgot to bring the map and guide books, which, with hindsight, was a blessing. Getting off the ring-road and motorway, we could soon see the surrounding countryside where we would be spending the next five nights. The roads began were empty and everything seemed to be going fine. We arrived at the little bar and petrol pump just outside the wall of the old town. I went to get some drinks, and on my return saw my sisters talking and laughing with Anna Maria in mutual incomprehension. She squeezed into the car and directed us to the parking place at the back of the Palazzo. A twisty-turny driveway up to the residence with a couple of hand brake pulls and more laughter, things were going along swimmingly ... but then we saw our accommodation. Anna Maria opened the door and took us into the kitchen. From the moment we stepped over the threshold, it was all 'oooohs' and 'ahhhhs'. Anna Maria was doing all of the talking, because we were just overwhelmed. The place had such charm, the feeling space with all its nooks and crannies and yet homely, as well. And the drawing room! The only thing wrong with the drawing room, was that I wished I had brought my crinoline. I won't go into all the things to do; everyone will have their own ideas. I should mention, though, that Anna Maria can bring you her delicious fresh pasta dishes, if you decide to eat in one night. Also, a small deli off the square outside the old town, sells lovely meat and cheeses. There is also a small supermarket for for more general necessities. However, what kind of necessities are really necessary in Palazzo Forani, set in beautiful countryside, where you just automatically relax into the surroundings? As an adventure tour leader, I had to listen many petty complaints; remember, at breakfast, never to ask how anyone slept and pray to God, Allah and Bhuddah that my fellow travellers would see the appeal of their next lodgings. Sometimes I knew that the next place was special; Palazzo Forani is that kind of place. We fell in love with Italy again, diolch yn fawr, Deirdre, Anna Maria and Carla. Wil and family

Magical experience

We stumbled on the Palazzo and Casperia by accident while trying to find a place to stay in Tuscany and felt so lucky that we had! Casperia is an ancient walled city with endless stone paths that intertwine and connect and make for wonderful walks. Within its walls is a cozy osteria whose outdoor tables overlook the beautiful countryside, and you can sit and watch the sunset from one of the loveliest spots imaginable. The Palazzo itself is beautiful and fascinating, full of charming, thoughtful touches, and very comfortable despite its ancientness. The owners are wonderfully hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. They welcomed us with a happy hour and told us about the history of the castle and then gave us a tour of the gorgeous rooms and furnishings. We also enjoyed taking a long walk down the nearby country roads. This is a lovely area of Italy that we never knew existed. A magical experience and one we are so grateful to have had!

Enchanting Palazzo, Gracious Hosts

I stayed at the palazzo while attending a week-long workshop/retreat. The charming hill town of Casperia, with its narrow cobblestone streets and alleyways (many with long flights of steps accessible only by foot), is a lovely backdrop for this historic, restored palazzo. I shared a suite of two bedrooms, a sitting room, and bath, with a friend. While maintaining the ancient floors, windows, woodwork, etc., the rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. Old prints and antique furniture grace each room. Guests in other suites in the palazzo share a large, well equipped kitchen and other rooms for gathering, and a supermarket, meat market, and other shops in the town supply the fixings for meals and snacks, although several good restaurants are either in or very close to Casperia. Behind the palazzo is a patio with tables and chairs for relaxing (and where I participated in my first watercolor lesson--an amazing success!), which overlooks an ancient garden and a lush valley. Carla and Anna, the very gracious owners, were onsite during my visit, and offered assistance whenever needed and a party with delicious homemade snacks and local wines. Our group was treated to a tour of the entire, centuries-old palazzo, complete with frescoes, ancient furniture and fabrics, and much more. They are two of the most gracious and hospitable hosts I have met in my many travels.
