Villa with private pool with breathtaking view of the Tuscany hills
6 Bedrooms
Location and Surrounding Area
Immersed in the peaceful Tuscan countryside, this majestic villa holds a commanding position overlooking vast swathes of olive groves, vineyards and sweet smelling pine forests. From its idyllic setting in the rolling hills just south west of Florence, Villa Pintello is ideally located to explore Tuscany’s cultural highlights and spectacular natural and man-made wonders. Here you can access it all: the art cities of Florence and Siena, the Chianti hills with their world-famous vineyards and fortified villages, the local markets, butchers’ shops, wineries and cheese producers, all of this and more is available at your fingertips.
What makes Villa Pintello uniquely attractive is its proximity to Florence, the UNESCO world heritage site. You are literally just 19 mins away from Porta Romana , the southernmost gate to the city and one of the only remaining sections of the 13th.century walls. For history enthusiasts, you might like to know that the gates are still hung with the original, massive iron clad doors dating from 1327. Inside the gates, you will find the indescribably beautiful and humbling treasures of the city that led our ancestors from the brutal middle ages into the light during ‘The Renaissance’
This is the cool side of the city, the Oltrarno where the Florentines still live and go about their daily business. Vintage stores abound, antiques stores, art studios, artisanal jewellery shops, hip cafes and winebars. Not to mention the best restaurants, both traditional and avant-garde. Sublime Italian gardens such as Bobboli and the secret Torrigiani private gardens are all within the walls on this side, along with the lesser visited churches and chapels, such as the Capella Brancacci and the Basilica di Santo Spirito.
If instead your plan is to escape the bustle and heat of the city, and immerse yourself in the chianti lifestyle, you are in the right place. For centuries, nobility and wealthy merchants escaped the heat of Florence into these hills. Important families that became synonymous with Chianti Classico built spectacular villas next door to the imposing stone castles built in the Middle Ages by Florentine and Sienese warlords. Market towns such as Greve in Chianti grew up where produce from the farms and livestock was traded. Greve and its close neighbour, Panzano, both about 20 minutes’ drive away, with their world famous butcher’s shops and wine festivals are a food and wine lover’s paradise.
If you want to travel back even further in time to the Etruscan period, a civilization that inhabited Tuscany centuries before the Romans, then a short drive away you can visit the famous Tomba dell’arciere (Tomb of the Archer) from the 7th century BC. This is close by the town of San Casciano in val di pesa, the largest town in the immediate area and providing a whole host of shops, restaurants and local services. It has a great farmers market day every Monday morning which is definitely worth a visit.
At the end of the day, be it one that was filled with culture or winetasting or just relaxing by the pool, at Villa Pintello, you can bring it to a beautiful close on one of the terraces, facing full west to watch the spectacular trajectory of the sun as it sets over the landscape that has inspired artists for centuries.
Villa Pintello is 23 km from Florence Amerigo Vespucci International Airport, 74 km from Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport and 308 km from Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. San Casciano in Val di Pesa is 8 km from the villa, Florence is 16 km, Barberino Val D’Elsa is 24 km, Greve in Chianti is 26 km, Panzano is 27 km, Castellina in Chianti is 35 km, San Gimignano is 46 km, Siena is 65 km, Volterra is 68 km, Vitignano is 72 km, and Pisa is 78 km.
The Property
Set in beautiful grounds overlooking the surrounding rolling Chianti hills, Villa Pintello features spacious interiors and exteriors, making it ideal for families and groups. With its consecrated chapel, it also offers a stunning venue for an intimate wedding or perhaps a renewal of vows ceremony. The views from the gardens, the various terraces and pergolas are truly stunning. Built in the 15th century, this is a Villa in the proper Italian sense of the word and as such, features high ceilings, large windows and elegant lines. This charming property boasts a gorgeous swimming pool, an Italian garden dotted with vases and statues, and a consecrated chapel. Close to Florence, Villa Pintello is tranquil, intimate, and comfortable. With an enchanting setting and spread over three floors, the Villa can sleep eleven guests in six bedrooms (five double bedrooms and a single room).
The gardens are beautiful with a large lawn, flower beds, avenues of mature olive trees and terracotta pots dotted with moss and overflowing with geraniums. Particularly captivating is the beautiful symmetry between the Villa and the chapel at the end of the garden. The walkway is lined with pots and the pathway is lit at night making it very atmospheric. The Villa boasts a generous sized swimming pool (12x6m) which is west facing and thus perfectly positioned to capture all of the day’s sun. There are plenty of inviting sun loungers by the pool and various other covered relaxation areas, reading nooks, and al fresco lounge and dining areas. In terms of outdoor entertainment, as well as the pool, there is also a swing for children, a small, covered gym complete with treadmill and exercise bike and also a wonderfully positioned bocce pit. You can play this ancient Roman game, glass of Chianti classico in hand whilst the sun sets right in front of you.
Villa Pintello dates from the late renaissance period and the signs are notable in the grand entrance room, with its high, beautifully painted roof. As you make your way through the ground floor to the two spacious living rooms, you will be struck by how much light floods in from the vast windows that frame the spectacular scenery outside. Leading off from the living area, there is a modestly sized fully fitted kitchen, and the dining room with its open fireplace and collection of vintage hand painted ceramics. On the lower ground floor you will find a double bedroom which includes its own private bathroom with shower. On the lower ground floor you will also find a bright lounge room complete with a comfortable sofa, 75-inch TV, and a pool table which can be converted into a tennis table.
The upper floor is reached by way of an elegant broad, red carpeted staircase that climbs gracefully from the entrance hall. There are five bedrooms: four double bedrooms and one single room. The single room and a double bedroom share a bathroom complete with large bathtub. All the other bedrooms feature a private bathroom (located in the corridor, just outside each room) with shower. All bedrooms are individually decorated with their own very particular character and personally chosen antique pieces. All areas of the villa are available to guests except for the wine cellar, located on the lower ground floor. It can, however, be visited upon request in the presence of the staff or the owner. Air conditioning is available in all bedrooms with the exception of the single room.
