The property is in a pleasant subdivision that is isolated from Highway 1 noise. The host, Lisa, was polite, communicated well, and was responsive.
Timber Cove Resort dominates the south view of the ocean, which diminishes seclusion on the ocean side. You can’t see this before you arrive because they took great care to avoid showing the whole view in the property pictures.
The house and everything in it is dated. Not in a nostalgic or kitschy way, but in a tired and poorly maintained, “staying at Grandma’s” way. Nearly everything inside is circa 1980. It's not very clean: Cobwebs in corners of every room, behind every door and in every window sill; dirty windows and skylights; a 3ft stack of old newspapers; peeling paint on the half bath door; and other weird stuff like whole cupboards full of loose paper towels.
This could all be overlooked except that it's poor value for the price: We paid JW Marriott prices for what feels like a motel near an interstate.
Unfortunately, it got worse.
We brought groceries with us and left a few items on the counter. In less than an hour hundreds (thousands?) of ants swarmed from the living room, up the stairs, onto the kitchen floor and counters. There was a can of Raid under the sink that we used to kill the ants and then clean up.
That night we woke at 1:40am because one of the CO2 detectors was chirping. It needed new batteries, which I replaced.
There is a "full kitchen", but even making scrambled eggs is a challenge. The skillets should be thrown out. The kitchen has an abundance of random, old utensils in big drawers. The pantry cupboard is full of remnants from previous guests over years of stays. It should all be thrown out and stocked with a few useful items for people who do cook.
Outside, the seating options are plastic chairs and the bench near the bluff. The bench was mildewy and covered in bird poo. I scrubbed it so we had something decent to sit on while viewing the ocean. Consider better seating options such as adirondack chairs near the bluff, and ideally an umbrella since the only shade under the trees on the edge of the property.
Overall we were very very disappointed. Cleanliness was very poor: the pictures on the site are old and don’t reflect this. It needs professional pest control. The walls could use a new coat of paint. The kitchen needs to be cleaned out and then stocked with just a few decent items. The property requires regular maintenance that isn't being performed.
