We were a family of 11 at this special property, from 8 months old to 80 years old. Everyone enjoyed this special stay, surprises and all.
First the good: the service is amazing, and the food indescribably good (thank you, Mario). Freshly-prepared, authentic Mexican food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is unlike anything you would ever be able to encounter at any resort. It was a highlight, as were the amazing cocktails.
The beach and ocean were also remarkable. Fine, white sand, no seaweed, and water warm enough that we found ourselves spending 2.5 hours in it without realizing how much time had passed.
The architecture and layout of the property are also lovely and very private.
The road to the property could be seen as a bit of a shock, but many of us within the group saw the road as a feature.. how fun is an Indians Jones style road to paradise?
Now for the stuff we weren’t entirely prepared for and didn’t care for: bugs. All manner of insects, crawling and flying, of spectacular sizes, menaced us at all hours of the day. Granted the bug situation is seasonal and dependent on factors like rain, it was brutal. Add to the bugs intense humidity with limited air conditioning. Damp nights, fleas and crabs finding their way atop mattresses while we slept, and suffocating heat made bedtime our least favorite part of everyday. We let the older folks sleep in the air-conditioned rooms while the rest of us braved the environment like New World settlers.
The property is constantly undergoing renovations, and the owners are spending large sums of money to keep things looking fresh and up-to-date. That said, it’s a large property that’s privately-owned, so one should be flexible if all areas are not equally renovated at all times.
Overall, we were very happy with the stay (all of us) and we enjoyed being together in such a unique and private space.
One final note; there are only two properties on the beach, but the beach can be used by others farther up the hill. One family of expats who lives farther up the hill came by a few times and wanted to socialize with us. Nice people, a little quirky for sure.
We also took a day trip to Sayulita and enjoyed driving through the town of San Pancho.
Thank you to everyone at the villa for having made this trip (nearly) perfect.
