A real gem of a holiday house!

My husband and I stayed with our 2 year old son for a week. We loved the aesthetic and design of the house, whilst being fully functional for a family, ideally suited to our needs with all the mod-cons (including cot) and indulgent touches like the deep bathtub (much needed after a full day out touristing!).We chose the location for being half way between Old Town and the beach and liked the fact it was in a quiet neighbourhood but which also had a few restaurants and cafes within walking distance. The riverside setting and the pretty garden adds to the overall charm of the house, and makes it feel like a true retreat away from the hustle and bustle. We used Grab taxis to get around as well as the services of Thinh, the driver whom Keith connected us with for airport transfers and day outs to My Son sanctuary and VinWonders.Keith and Huong were very welcoming and although we only met Huong as Keith was away, both were really responsive in their communication with us and answered all our questions comprehensively. Keith's little black book for local tours and the food scene was invaluable and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the recommendations. Another highlight was the pho cooking demo from Huong, which was delicious and a real treat to be able to do this from the comfort of Casa Rio (as travelling with a toddler precluded us from doing a cooking class in town).Overall, I'd highly recommend Casa Rio for an authentic home away from home experience in Hoi An!

Quiet Retreat in Busy Hoi An

Casa Rio is in a quiet, local location away from the busy old town and is set in it's own garden next to the river. It is about a 5 minute walk down some narrow lanes from the main road. We didn't hire bikes due to the rainy weather, but would highly recommend using Grab as a cheap and easy way to get around. There are cafes and restaurants within walking distance, but a 15 minute car ride takes you to the busy old town with endless places to eat/drink. Keith and Huong are excellent hosts who were very communicative and provided lots of useful information and the housekeeper Van is just lovely!

Great location on the river

We stayed for about 10 days. The location for us was ideal-halfway between the city and the beach. We enjoyed biking in the rice fields and to the beach (about 10 minutes to beach). We cooked a lot and the kitchen was great. (Good size fridge and a rice cooker.) There is also purified water on tap which was a great help as we did not have to buy water. Keith, the landlord, was very helpful getting us settled in and putting us in touch with tours etc. There are other tourist villas in the area which had loud parties on the weekends but the noise generally stopped around 9pm.

Great bungalow in a beautiful garden setting in Hoi An. Easier to get around by grab and in between town and beach area. Great host and such a cute place to chill and slow things down a bit!

Wife and I spent 8 days here in Sept. 23. Nice house in a quiet neighbourhood. Fully equipped with everything you need. Keith, the landlord, is always able to assist or advice with your needs.

I am going back to Casa Rio in the future

The landlord was extremely attentive to all our inquiries and requests. There is everything you need in the house (backpacks, bikes, ice packs, goods/spices in the kitchen, little amenities in bathroom etc), the yard is enchantingly beautiful, the location was perfect. 10-15 min bike ride to Hoi An Old town, and 10-15 min bike ride to the beaches to the other direction. The street food tour / cooking class he recommended was one of the best memories we have from Hoi An. I'd like to go back to this place for many years to come.

We are Keith and Huong, residents of Hoi An since 2013. Keith is a marine conservation and fisheries management consultant, originally from Toronto, Canada. He has worked in Vietnam since 2004 with WWF and other organizations. Huong is from Haiphong and owner/designer at Villagecraft Planet, a fair trade textile company specializing in eco-friendly materials. We have two wonderful daughters (born 2009 and 2014).

With Casa Rio, we wanted to create a holiday space for kindred spirits, based on our own impressions of what makes a great holiday home. We think Casa Rio is a perfect Hoi An home base for many varied travel styles - from travelling families to solo adventurers and everything in between. We are always available and happy to share with you our tips and suggestions. We are also at your service in designing personalized itineraries incorporating environmental tourism, cultural heritage, wellness and other specialized themes befitting the unique interests of our guests.

Waarom de eigenaar deze accommodatie gekozen heeft

When we first stepped through the gates of this property we loved it immediately. We were intrigued by the striking originality and traditional design, and of course the idyllic setting on the river. Having resided in Hoi An for some time, we knew the property was inside a section of Hoi An zoned for protection (largely due to the flood-mitigating functions of the Do River), and therefore would not be subject to the kind of rapid over-development seen in other picturesque locations around the town. The peacefulness and serenity of this little stretch of laneway along the river seemed really quite remarkable...no cars, bikes or horns. Ahhhhh.........

We recognized this was a hidden gem, and after purchasing the property began planning and implementing what would be a nearly two-year renovation process - including a completely new back section with spa bathroom and modern bedrooms, full restoration work on the wooden house, custom carpentry, open-air kitchen with peninsular bar, custom interior design, traditional artisan soft furnishings and fabrics, and other renovations. For the exterior, both the front and back yards were completely re-landscaped with gardens, lawn, flowers beds, fruit trees and other plants seeded and raised. It was a true labour of love!

In September 2019 our private house by the river - Casa Rio - was ready with open doors to receive travelers from all over the world.
