For five high school friends in their 50's looking for a weekend retreat, this place was perfect.
First, the house... old and quirky, but fun, warm and worked out great for us to cook, do yoga, play games and listen to music together. Kitchen fully stocked, just bring food. Bedrooms all on first and second floors, and kitchen, dining and large living room in the lower-level, a walk-out basement with plenty of windows. We were there during a Nor-Easter, so it was a perfect place to hunker down in front of the huge fireplace. We did venture out back to the waterfall (beautiful) and did a hike through the woods (beautiful). I can only imagine how lovely it is in the spring, summer and fall.
Location: Although the house seems to be quite remote, it is a short drive to two of the sweetest towns in Mass, we spend an afternoon at the MoCA, highly recommend.
Host: Michael was very gracious and responsive, made sure to provide us with directions for each guest, we were all coming from different directions. Elena, the local caretaker of the house, is a saint. She called me the day before our arrival to see if I had any questions and then provided welcome birthday surprises for one of us, had great recommendations for area restaurants and bakeries, and was quick with text responses when we had questions about the house. She had the heat and lights on when we arrived after dark. She is the perfect host. I recommend this antique house to those who want a unique place to stay, but must be able to use steep stairs and navigate small bathrooms. We all fell in love with the place and promised each other to book again next year.
