If you are looking for a luxuary villa with spacious bedrooms, walk in closets, several bathrooms and all surrounded by large decks - then you can stop reading here.
But if you want to make something truly special out of your Swedish vacation - then this 90 square meter loghouse from the 18th century, beautifully situated
on a mountain height, surrounded by forrest and close to the open sea, could be worth considering.
It is built in a style, typical for the county Dalarna in northern Sweden with the upper floor slightly larger than the ground floor. We found it 20 years ago, dismantled it and raised it on a plot ner our own house in the Stockholm Archipelago.
Over the years we have put a lot of care and effort into the old house - restoring the inside to a completely modern and comfortable standard while maintaining the exterior as close to the original as possible. Certain extensions have been made - an extra bedroom and a deck for lazy (and hopefully sunny) afternoons and evenings.
There are beds for 5-6 persons in total. Three bedrooms are located on the bottom floor - one with a queen size bed and two with single beds. The fourth bedroom containing a queen size bed is located on the upper floor. Here you also find a spacious living room with a large sofa, comfortable armchairs, wide screen TV and a typical Swedish traditional fire place.
There are two stairs to the upper floor - an interior one which is quite steep and one on the outside of the house.
The fully equipped kitchen is situated on the bottom floor and connected to a small but cosy dining area with sitting for 6 persons. Here you also find a bathroom with shower and wc. Towels and linen are included. If you miss anything, please ask and we will try as much as possible to accommodate you.
From the house there is a short walk through the woods to our secluded swimming spot - situated on some smoth cliffs by the sea. This is a great place to have picknicks with family and friends by the water, overlooking the archipelago.
A few minutes walk away you will also have access to a couple of beautiful lakes - with temperature perfect for swimming. One of them also has a small sandy beach which is suitable for younger children. This is a very nice spot for a drink and a snack in the evening sun. Close to this lake there is a small stable with ponies where kids can get lessons or just book a guided ride through the woods.
At our jetty in the nearby harbour you can borrow our rowingboat with a small outborder if you want to go fishing. Some experience needed. Also available to borrow: Bikes, life-jackets, fishing gear, picnic baskets, coolbags, tents, sleepingbags etc.
There are two nice golf courses nearby, a shopping center within 20 minutes and bus services to Stockholm within 10 minutes by car.
Stockholm itself has a lot to offer - the Vasa and Artipelag museums, Gröna Lund amusement park, The Old Town with all its shops and restaurants.
If you want to see more of the unique Stockholm Archipelago its 40.000 islands we would recommend going to Stavsnäs (15 min by car) and from there take a ferry boat to Sandhamn - a picturesque former fishing harbour among the outer skerries. The typical old inn dates back to 1672 and is well worth a stop for a meal or a drink.
Well, as you understand there is no lack of activities in these beautiful and peaceful surroundings and we will be happy to point you in the right direction.
Finally, if our house in the archipelago should be occupied for your preferred period, why not have a look at our mountain lodge in the North? It is very similar in style but set in very different, yet just as beautiful, surroundings:
