Vacation rentals near East Hawaii Cultural Center

This rental was incredible. The property was amazing, with a tropical orchard and gardens, sweeping ocean views beyond a sparkling pool and friendly sheep. Every detail was mindfully tended to: a spotlessly clean home, beautiful handcrafted wood furnishings, tons of bath and beach towels, a fully stocked kitchen with all the dishes, pans, and minor appliances you could need. This home faces a gorgeous copse of trees and palms that line the oceanfront. The spacious house was optimally designed to maximize your enjoyment of the ocean with the lanai, kitchen, dining room, living room and primary bedroom all facing this gorgeous view. On site were two lovely people: Jackie and Lyman who were there maintaining the property, talking story and sharing the bounty of the garden- fresh pineapple, papaya, macadamia nuts, green onions, beans, tomatoes and so much more. We loved the sustainability efforts that the owners have taken, the house, pool and hot tub, even the air conditioning, were solar powered! Everything from the smart toilets, the laundry and dish detergents, the hand soaps and the shower amenities were thoughtfully chosen to be eco friendly. This is our 17th trip to the islands and our 5th time to Hawaii Island, so we have stayed in our fair share of rentals. This house was by far the most comfortable, well appointed one we have had the pleasure to enjoy. They go the extra mile to show their guests true Island Style and Aloha. We used this property for a couple's getaway to Hawaii and had an amazing time. The pool and hot tub were wonderful, very warm- and it was beautiful to take a night swim and look up at all of the stars in the clear sky. The bedrooms were spacious and the kitchen was fully outfitted for all of our needs. Communication and check-in/check-out were easy. The property is a little ways away from Hilo proper so you will need a car and can anticipate some traffic. However, it was worth it for us to have a peaceful and private home base to just relax and watch the ocean waves. Highly recommend!

Comfortable accommodations along with immaculate landscaping makes this home away from home one should not pass up. This far exceeded our expectations and is a best value. The hosts Jeff and Jennifer were very attentive to our needs and made sure we weren't wanting of anything. Again great hosts.- you won't regret booking your next stay here!!!

This house was a wonderful place to stay. There was no air-conditioning in this place but it was not needed. The wind coming off the sea was sufficient to cool the house and sometimes at night it was cold. The sounds of the waves crashing against the cliffs was the best "white noise" to fall asleep or read your favorite book. The place is stocked with the tools you need to cook with. The neighbors are quiet and friendly. The place is conveniently located close to the Volcano National Park so you can vist the Volcano. We did get to see the eruption during our stay. Several hiking trails beaches located near by. Kona is about two hours away but is worth the drive for the beautiful scenery. Mauna Loa is beautiful. The owners are very nice and are easy to reach if you have questions. Don't feed the chickens! Lol

The property was stunning. The ocean is only a few minute walk which we all enjoyed after dinner. The view and ocean sounds from the lanai was wonderful anytime of the day. The Weber grill made it perfect for grilling dinner every night. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms in each bedroom were large. My wife likes to bird and there were no shortage of birds on the property. There are no negatives to say only positives. We truly enjoyed our stay and would choose to stay here again if we return to the big island. Thank you Howard for the wonderful hospitality.

An excellent location to experience the "green" side of the island. We loved its proximity to the National Park, Waterfalls and Black sand beaches. We also loved getting a flavor of the less touristy side island. The home was spacious and comfortable and had beautiful gardens and a view of the ocean.

My wife and I started our honeymoon here (we spent the last couple nights on the Kona side). This was exactly what we hoped it would be: private and peaceful. The property was clean, with modern and quality cooking appliances and a nicely-done bathroom. The weather was mostly wet, but the temperature was perfect. If you’re not afraid of the rain, it’s wonderful to be outside. The lanai is perfect, especially for breakfast. Lots of birds singing during the day. At night you’ll be serenaded by geckos. (The night geckos are quite loud, especially around sunset; be prepared for lots of “waWEEP” noises.) We got to share some breakfast with the day geckos and with the resident duck. You’re off the beaten track and will not be bothered by passersby. Even though it’s on the host’s property, it felt exceptionally private. The only (tiny) downsides were that there was no dishwasher, and laundry was in the shed out back. We managed just fine. If you’re looking for lots of social activities nearby, this probably isn’t your place. But, if you’re looking for privacy and access to rainforest paradise, this is it. Highly recommend the Tropical Botanical Garden (easily worth the $30 if you’re into this sort of thing). Also, it’s a bit of a drive and a hike in through a muddy jungle (2.5 miles each way), but Shipman Beach was exceptional. Extremely private. Swimmable calm lagoon. Sea turtles. Thundering surf on the rocks around the beach. Absolutely wonderful. And it’s free. Enjoy!

This home is perfect for relaxing after a day of Hawaiian adventure. Yes you have to drive but returning to this beautiful home and the stunning views is worth it! Everything you need is provided for your stay. It’s beautifully furnished and spotless. We spotted some turtles just off the coast, we were too late to see whales, but just relaxing and watching the ocean was all we needed. One of the nicest rental houses we have been to. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
